Let’s Celebrate the Debt Deal!

“I stand here in abject stupefaction. The so-called ‘right’ or ‘Tea Party’ in this republic is being so thoroughly rolled and defeated that I am struggling to come up with an adequate violent submission metaphor that does not involve prison rape . . .”

  1. I’m celebrating the debt deal the best way possible:  hoarding canned food, ammunition, water and precious metals.

  2. Lifson sounds subdued compared to Jeff Goldstein on this subject.  We went from Ryan’s plan, to CC&B, to this…which Obama supports because it helps him get re-elected.  And we are supposed to say good job?

  3. Yeah, I just bought a Rem. 870 Express for the wife (my shotgun is too long for her) with a short slug barrel for home defense.   Happy Aniversary honey, saddly you might have to actually use this.

  4. That is Ann Barnhardt who I like very much.

No offense to her but she sounds like Jefferson Davis just before he replaced Johnston with Hood and lost Atlanta for the Confederacy and won the 1864 election for Lincoln.

Eyes on the prize people, eyes on the prize

  5. Contrary to Memeorandum, the author of the piece is listed as Ann Barnhardt (not Thomas Lifson) at the American Thinker online.

Sure, it’s ridiculous to consider this debt deal a victory for the Tea Party, fiscal conservatives, etc. But Barnhardt goes a bit over the top.

It’s possible for Team Obama to be transnational “progressive” Social Democrats and still not wish for the United States to completely explode in a ball of flames. If you prefer, these elites might be seen as “Davos socialists,” exemplified by the likes of Dominique Strauss Kahn. They peddle their dangerous ideas partly because they believe in them and partly because those ideas enable, and provide rationalizations for, their opulent lifestyles. But the parasite perishes, as well, when his host goes up in a ball of flames.

And let’s not forget that the old and new ideas, which are borrowed, tweaked, and exploited by the Davos socialists, are far more dangerous and formidable than these elites’ overrated intellects and their insecure grips on the levers of power and authority.

  6. Apparently, this deal is a classic DC compromise – they’ve negotiated it to the point everyone can find something about it to hate.

  7. Joe how does this help get Obama re-elected? I’m just not seeing it. Is he somehow a good president all of a sudden because he managed to get this thing passed, even though he didn’t get the tax hikes that he wanted, and even though it contains more than half the spending cuts Moody’s, S&P and Fitch demanded? Now if we lose our AAA rating, we can legitimately say its Obama’s and the Democrats fault because they wouldn’t agree to the four trillion in cuts. And if we keep our rating, we can just as legitimately take credit for that because we wouldn’t have gotten nowhere near the cuts that we did if not for the Tea Party House.

No its not Morning In America, but damn, how does Obama get re-elected out of this?

  8. It’s pretty damn sad when you have to consider doubting the sincerity of the opposition as a possibility, no?

I think it’s pretty sincere, this time. After all, as a whole, their complaint seems to be about he politics of it rather than the policy (OMFG, Obama let the t-baggerz win something!); and ours is more the opposite – we are looking at the effect and finding plenty of fault, but aren’t describing it in purely political algebra.

  9. Yes.

Remember this was all about politics from the start, to get the GOP to raise taxes.  The media and Obama failed spectacularly and managed to get their base upset at the same time.

  10. Are you kidding?  Why do you think he pushed for this?  It kicks the debt ceiling talks past 2012.  And if the economy goes to shit further, they will try to blame it on you and me.

Trust me, you think the slanders after Gabby Giffords’ shooting were bad, wait to you see what is coming.

  11. That is only partially true Peter.  It was also about getting this issue past November 2012, and they managed to do that.  The Tea Party was not the problem here of course, Republican leadership should have drawn a line on CC&B and said this or nothing.

  12. Exactly. Many on the left who are now being hysterical over this “Tea Party hijack” just don’t know/understand what the deal actually is.

Sure, a few them are being Machiavellian, pretending – for strategic reasons – that it’s a huge Reich wing victory, when they know/believe it’s nothing of the sort.

The rest of them? Come on, we’re talking about emotional, neurotic, hysterical “progressive” Democrats . . .

  13. Excuse me for not yelling “whoopie” after all of this.  I do not see anything worthy to cheer about.

  14. None of this stuff matters in Obama’s reelection campaign, because the general population has the attention span of a gnat.  As long as the economy continues to suffer, people will blame the Democrats for it.    And until we actually do make significant cuts in the government, the economy will suffer.

  15. Joe, think about it. Do you think this is the deal Obama wanted? He pushed for this not because he thought he was going to get the deal he ended up getting, he thought if he held out till the eleventh hour he’d get most of what he wanted if not everything.

The only way the election enters into this is he thinks, or maybe hopes, that if he gets the debt ceiling raised he has a chance of improving the economy between now and the election. But if he had to revisit this issue, it might not improve.

But then, he would just blame the Tea Party GOP for standing in the way of economic recovery, so you’re back to Square One all over again.

But most importantly, and what you are overlooking, is the only way this could hope to help him in the election, is if the economy does actually improve due to his policies. Now what do you think is the chance of that?

If this mess was to be the election issue of 2012 it would suck all the oxygen out of the air for any other issue, and might even suppress voter turnout. Not to mention it probably wouldn’t move the dial one way or another. Or if it did, it would be just as likely to move it against us if he could paint us as being obstacles to economic improvement, especially for political reasons.

  16. All of the purported restraints are faux, until proven otherwise.
My going-in position is that this has as much value as a shredded condom.

  17. When the hangover is coming on, shooting more tequila isn’t necessarily bright.
Not that I’ve drunk significantly in the last decade, but when I did, I faced the side effects like a man.

  18. Sincerity implies some concept of truth, methinks.
We just need to keep on doubling down, until the Left becomes the next wave of Canadians.

  19. Smitty, where’s the tequila? No tax hikes. 2.4 trillion in spending cuts. Don’t think of it as tequila, think of it as heroin. Think of this deal as methodone. Damn, man, we are at least on the right path. Take heart.

  20. That’s why we need to keep our eye on the ball and demand transparency. Otherwise you might be right. It doesn’t have to be that way. For example, the Tea Party caucus could, and should, demand that they have representation on the panel proportionate to their numbers in the House AND in the Senate. That should net us at least two people on the panel in addition to the other four Republicans. You will probably need to put added pressure on McConnell to accede to that, more so than Boehner. The Democrats have no say as to which GOP members are included, that’s up to the party House and Senate leaders of each party as to who they appoint.

  21.  A slug for home defense isn’t the best. Better is bird shot, say 71/2 to 6s. Reason is your shooting close range and 10 to 30 ft that shot will cut the target in half with a 1 ft diameter palttern vs a 12 single hole.

  22. TPT can you remember the beneficeries of the slush, I mean TARP fund? Unions, 60% of it. And that was only 1T. Now has he control of 2.5T. Ever hear of ACORN TPT? The’re still around collecting votes. TPT do you know who are the biggest contributors of the Kommiecrat party? Union.
    Does that help?

  23. As I noted time & again, those who thought and think House Speaker Boner was ANYTHING but contemptuous of fiscally responsible people — you lack judgement. He is cut from the same cloth as his Senate counterpart Reid.

And those that ballyhoo-ed the deal as the best we could do – so we’d better abandon those principles, because we won’t “win”! Well, as I posted previously in another thread (to paraphrase) Hahahahaha! As rates go up, our currency’s devalued, that paltry savings will be lost 100 times over! CONGRATULATIONS! We Won!

Now, don’t you feel just great!

Whenever we abandon Principle to do the Expedient, the Expedient eventually expands to surplant all other choices.

And: you praise a behavior, you’ll get more of it!

Incidentally, how’s LOTE working out for us?

READ how bad this really is at American Thinker:

(Sorry Droid won’t let me put that in as a link…)

  24. Demand transparency and let the people know what’s happening, then let them decide in 2012. The people should get more pissed off at him actually giving those groups that money than they will if we just accuse him of wanting to give it to them and using that accusation as an excuse to derail the process. Don’t you think they might possibly question our motivations?

I think a big lot of the problem here is you guys are automatically thinking everybody that isn’t a Democrat or a RINO already knows all this and thinks the same way you do. That’s hardly the case.  The only election a lot of these people have on their minds is who is going to win American Idol. I’m talking about the people who never vote in their local elections, and seldom in their state-wide elections, because they don’t think its important, or because they think it “doesn’t matter”.

You’ve got generations of American voters who’ve been indoctrinated-in government funded, union controlled schools-who think its the rightful place of government to subsidize, manage, and control the economy.

The Tea Party is a breath of fresh air. Admittedly, I don’t agree with them in every particular, but I do mainly agree with them. One thing I don’t think anyone appreciates is this is going to be a process. It’s going to be a long, hard slog. This SHIT isn’t going to change overnight. That’s just called reality.

  25. It probably doesn’t help O’Sputnik as much as it appears at first glance. The advantage to him is it gets the debt and deficit out of the headlines.
Based on what he said in the Rose Garden he plans to restart pushing for “jobs” spending again. Evidently he believes that the average American can’t make the connection between spending and the debt/deficit. Keeping in mind that he and his advisers are utterly baffled as to why his economic policies are failing, even though they can see that failure it will never occur to them that those policies are wrong. The President could make good use of this agreement by taking credit for being reasonable instead he will double down on stupid. He/they simply cannot see that their idea of solutions to our economic problems are the cause of those problems.

  26. I think the fact that some Republicans refused to be intimidated into caving no matter what and that this gave the rest enough backbone to hold out to the last minute has damaged their view of how the world works. In a few days they will also start blaming the markets for not playing their role. The markets were supposed freak totally which would have probably produce the expected capitulation.

Say what you like about the left many of them do actually stand on what they consider to be principles. The fact that some Republicans would do the same frightens them.

  27. I’m not sure why you think there aren’t tax hikes coming.  The ,Super Congress has the authority to raise revenue, unfettered even  and the last time I checked nobody was talking about slapping tariffs on imports. There’s no good reason to believe that they’re not going to raise taxes – this is just their way of limiting political liability.

The only thing this bill did was to reinflate the bubble.  Interest rates are being kept artificially low, and that dam has to burst.  The longer we put it off, the more pressure we’re going to get swamped with.  Look at the market and the price of gold – the Street  clearly isn’t buying the talking points, and neither should we.  10 years ago, Ron Paul would possibly have been the only “No” vote.  This time, 22 Republicans stood strong all the way through.   We have to win a few more primary battles before we can wage serious war in the hallowed halls on the hill, though, and that’s just that.

And that won’t be easy – the Republicans are quietly redistricting the TEA Party candidates out of office,  just like they did the “Contract with America” freshman class.  The ruling class has absolutely no interest in giving back the power or the money they’ve worked so hard to grab from us.

  28. Actually, the optimum is #4 (goose shot), at least according to Guns and Ammo about 10 years back. Stack a slug after a couple #4s, for the gas tank of the getaway car.

  29. What makes you think the Copperheads will keep it? if Obama is feeling pressed later he’ll just pull the 14th Amendment option. Better to force him to pull it NOW.

  30. “It’s possible for Team Obama to be transnational “progressive” Social
Democrats and still not wish for the United States to completely explode
    in a ball of flames.”

But unless they get everything they want, they wouldn’t mind. And yes, I can already hear “so do you.” The difference is in the end: I want America as the Constitution intended her; they don’t.

  31. Of course, that would imply that a) you admit that the first “wave of Canadians” from America was based on “leave, STFU, or die” at the point of a gun… which is the actual case… and b) admit that the second wave won’t result unless and until we use that same method to offer the same choice…  which is what I’ve said all along and gotten denounced by you and others.

  32. What is so stupid about her article is the impression that the Tea Party is happy with the bill that passed. That is absolutely ridiculous.
So, to rail against the Conservatives or Tea Party is sheer stupidity.
Is there a Tea Party in Congress? NO
Does the Tea Party have a vote? NO
Did the Tea Party screw up the economy? NO
Both the Republicans and the Democrats are responsible for the debt and the spending and the corruption and the bull crap in Washington.
What does Ann have to say about that? Did she bitch about that 5 years ago? 6 years ago? 3 years ago?
Just because the Tea Party held the Republican feet to the fire does not mean that she can bitch at the Tea Party. Without the Tea Party doing that, can you imagine how crappy the deal would have been?
The only solution is to elect more Tea Party and Conservative candidates in November of 2012 so that it is not just a minority of the votes. Then a bitcher like Ann is really have someone to bitch about. Bitch Bitch Bitch

  33. See? What have I been telling you? You’re getting it. If we kept this shit going that’s what the issue would be.

“Those damned Tea-Baggers are wanting us to default on our obligations and they don’t even care to throw everybody’s granny under the bus.”

That’s what the story already was. Even Fox News was reporting most people were blaming the GOP, and especially the Tea Party. I was honestly starting to think Obama was going to let it go on purpose, and if he had been sure the GOP would have taken the lion’s share of the blame, the asshole probably would have.

Now it’s over, and you know what? It’s not just not helping Obama as much, its not helping him at all. That piece of shit is, as you have noted, clueless as ever, and so is Harry Reid, the Midnight Cowboy of the Senate. Now we can concentrate on beating the bastards and sending Obama’s punk ass packing.

  34. SDN…we’re not talking geese at 40 yds but an intruder at 10 to 20 feet. At that range even a target load of 11s witll slice to a depth of about 3″ covering about a 10″ radii.
try it out at the range at 15ft on plywood and see what I mean.
By the way a .45acp is the best home defence with knock down power that doesn’t go through 5 house, 7 dogs and the perp.
