Sick Of Stimulus

Update: the clip was worth the wait:

Stacy is in transit to come home as I write this. He mentioned a conference call with Herman Cain this morning, wherein a new project, Sick of Stimulus was touted. In a recent blog post, “Stimulus is killing us” the Herminator said:

Why doesn’t economic stimulus work? When it comes in the form of federal spending, it doesn’t work because it’s based on a completely wrong notion of what spurs prosperity. In that respect, it’s much like a drug.
Consider the effects that a stimulant like caffeine has on your body, or even a stronger stimulant like amphetamines. These stimulants merely provide a very temporary boost to your energy – keeping you awake when you should probably be sleeping, or keeping you operating at a high level when you need rest. They make the body act in an unnatural way, and that doesn’t come without consequences.

Indeed, we can drop another handful, which will serve to keep us on the road past serfdom and toward the Thunderdome.

I am shocked by this.  What a terrible loss to us all.

Breitbart was born after me, and yet died before me.

It’s an odd juxtaposition about which I’m uncertain.  What I am certain of though is that he had a much greater impact on this nation than I ever have or could.  For what time he had on Earth and devoted to the cause of restoring our country I am grateful.  If not for him much of what has been done, could never have been done.  And what can be done, could not even be contemplated.

Since there is another thread on Breitbart’s tragic passing, I’ll speak to the Cain ad.

It’s brilliant in its simplicity.  Sometimes it is also important to understand the reason government stimulus cannot work effectively in the long run – especially since economic education in this country is either neglected or perverted in our public schools.

What makes capitalism work?  It isn’t people getting rich or starting businesses.  Any economic system is about the allocation of scarce resources.  Socialism and the coercive family of similar systems use a top-down approach with the government making the decisions on who gets a bailout and who needs stimulus and who gets money taken from someone else.

Capitalism uses a market system to allocate resources, where billions of small decisions made by billions of people every day get the resources where they are most needed by adjusting prices constantly to reflect supply and demand.

It isn’t perfect, of course, no system designed by man ever will be.  BUT it IS self-correcting, if left alone.

Government largesse is never self-correcting.  In fact, the most common government reaction to market signals their policies are incorrect is to double down on the same policies and waste more resources on them.

And let us be crystal clear:  “crony capitalism” is NOT capitalism, it is cronyism – just what a wise and impartial government should be preventing.
