Lots of stuff I just ignore, but this particular Twitter twerp crossed a line: The fake re-Tweet, defaming me as a neo-Nazi.
My late father was wounded within an inch of his life fighting the Nazis — his Army medals, including his Purple Heart, are displayed in my office — and I’ll be damned if I’ll let some obnoxious atheist punk get away with this kind of cheap smear.
“Dan Verg” evidently bears a grudge against “teabaggers,” and has sent a series of recent messages suggesting that Slate political reporter Dave Weigel, author Pamela Geller and talk-radio host Dana Loesch advocate or endorse terrorism.
Given his obvious penchant for defamation, you might ask, what kind of language does Dan Verg use about Republicans? And what is Dan Verg’s attitude toward the late Andrew Breitbart?
Dan Verg is entitled to his obnoxious opinions about such things, but he certainly has no right to USE HIS TWITTER ACCOUNT to falsely portray me as having sent a message I never sent, in an intentional act with the purpose of defaming me as a Nazi sympathizer.
FALSE, MALICIOUS AND INTENTIONALLY DEFAMATORY messages would appear to be a clear violation of Twitter’s terms of service agreement, and I believe that the proprietors of Twitter are under obligation to provide me, as the object of a libelous communication, or my attorney, with contact information for the user “Dan Verg,” in order to facilitate whatever legal action might be pursued.
UPDATE: Holy freaking crap! According to sources on Twitter, @Dan_Verg_ is Florida resident Daniel Vergara who, in an interview two years ago disclosed: “I was very active during the 2004 election, I was second-in-command for the Crystal Beach area of Tampa Bay for the Kerry-Edwards campaign.”
How stupid do you have to be, to engage in the kind of obnoxious defamation Vergara does on Twitter and disclose your identity, when you are employed by a public university? (Still checking this out.)
UPDATE II (Smitty): Woo hoo, Insta-lanche!
UPDATE III: Currently attempting to disambiguate @Dan_Verg_ from other people with the same name, including one employed by a public university where the media relations office says they think this is not their guy. Meanwhile, we find the following letter to the editor sent to the St. Petersburg Times in March 2011:
Nonexistent issue
I am so glad our brave state legislators have had the courage to introduce a bill banning sharia law in our beloved Florida.
However, while I applaud this good news, I worry that the very important issue of unicorn leashing has been left undecided. While it may seem unlikely to bleeding-heart liberals that there is any chance unicorns will ever show up, I feel that the sharia bill is the perfect place to deal with the issue of whether or not they should be leashed.
And to those who say that would be a ridiculous, demagogic bill tackling an absolutely nonexistent issue, I say: You can never be too careful.
Daniel Vergara, Palm Harbor
Is this the same Daniel Vergara? Is that name particularly common in Florida? Still checking it out and have communicated my concerns to Twitter.
Let’s be clear, by the way: This isn’t just one of those Godwin’s Law things where someone starts losing an argument and calls his antagonist a Nazi. This character, with whom I had never had any previous interaction, just decided to smear me by doing a fake re-Tweet, to create the false impression that I had praised Adolf Hitler.
This is libel per se, and many, many people can testify to the falsehood of the defamatory impression @Dan_Verg_ was maliciously attempting to create.
Go get the bastard.
Yep; Take the creep down.
I don’t twitter, so I don’t know the terms of use. I wonder if a class action suit between you all against Twitter, to make them live up to thier terms of use would be in order.
Maybe some lawyers reading this might have an opinion.
Thats the communist Alinsky left for you. Truth is subject to disregard in favor of “Ends justify the means.” They are despicable vermin.
Stacy: That is BS and his twitter account should be blocked by twitter. It is abusive and libelous. It is not free speech to lie like that.
This is what you call the “dishonorable left” but what is even more funny he forgets that not only do you have many friends, but many are lawyers.
Sounds like a cash cow to me.
Ka-ching!
As they say, he is not winning.
Someone should tell this asshat that Hitler’s philosophy was much more in line with his. Hitler was a leftist, hated banks, hated Jews and fancied himself a leader of the little people.
i just checked, and they’re all still there. he tries to cover his ass by saying he just tweeted what rsm was thinking, but i don’t see how that would fly.
I saw that they are there, thus why I edited my comment.
[…] IT HAD TO HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER: Neo-Nazi Twitter Libel. […]
this made Instapundit. Top story. This lad chose poorly.
Speaking to noted troublemaker DCDebbie from Progressive PST.
You know, the organization that represents Rep. Keith Ellison?
What a freak.
If he was Christain I wonder if you would have felt compelled to add “obnoxious Christian punk’.
Maybe that’s a Charles Johnson “front” Twitter account? Just saying…
Take legal action. Sue for libel/slander. If Dan_Verg is a university employee, then blast him for his use of the N-word. Demand self-critisism in the Maoist mode. Also, the link in the “Update” seems to have been scrubbed.
How stupid do you have to be, to engage in the kind of obnoxious defamation Vergara does on Twitter and disclose your identity, when you are employed by a public university?
He’s a lefty, so… pretty much self-explanatory.
What a fucking little asshole.
And I really mean that in this case.
Make the rubble bounce, Stacy…
Verg follows a total two black people out of 82 I can see, on Twitter. He is obviously an expert on race relations and racism.
BM, he has himself made his atheism a prominent aspect of his online activity, as you would know if you had bothered to do a bit of research. He is openly contemptuous of religious people as “superstitious,” etc.
What are the opitions on suing? He didn’t make a joke, he faked a retweet, so the stupider people, ie liberals, will think it’s real.
Please, go after him, hammer-and-tongs. Like so many Lefty Narcissists, he thinks that his political beliefs place him above such mundanities as responding to a libel suit. Prove him wrong.
He appears to be unfollowing people and losing followers now. Wonder what’s in his timeline? Good thing I got a screenshot.
Kickstarter! Kickstarter! Damn it, Stacy, open a Kickstarter to pursue this SOB and we’ll shove it at Glenn Reynolds until he posts it five times a day!
Stop this filthy liar from sucking on the public teat! Nail the SOB!!
If Vergara just tweeted that he’s just tweeting what Stacy was thinking, he just libeled Stacy again.
If he works for a public university, perhaps there is a way they could also be named in a lawsuit? Was he on university time while tweeting?
It would certainly get the national socialism types attention.
Yeah….there is a sarcastic joke buried in there that would go completely over this guys head……
How is it that the most unhinged, nasty trolls turn out to be affiliated with universities?
Yes, that’s a rhetorical question. University types inhabit a world where the rubber never actually meets the road, so it never occurs to them that their words could have real-life consequences.
Plus they’re regularly cheered on when attacking The Wrong Types of People, so being a slanderous troll on the tubez comes pretty naturally.
::spit::
Zombie offers some insight as to how oblivious academic lefties are when it comes to their self-righteousness.
Danny Boy is but the tip of the iceberg.

He keeps using the term “teabagger”.
Why is he so obsessed with male genitalia?
The same fellow who just tweet this?
Daniel
?
@dan_verg_
You know, the @rsmccain who said Emmett Till had it coming. Yeah, THAT McCain.
Unfortunately, as we have seen in recent years – and especially in the Florida system – public universities view this sort of thing as a resume enhancement.
Reason #5382 why the federal government should be out of the education business. (Without the federal money, universities could not afford to keep on the useless leftist faculties which promote such nonsense).
Contact a lawyer in Florida (I’d suggest Mississippi, but you can’t sue another state anywhere but itself) and offer him 50% contingency for whatever he can get from the state, the U, Vergara, and Twitter, asking only that he keep Danny busy with motions.
Distasteful, perhaps, but it’s the only way to make it stop.
PLUS, you’ll be able to thank the guy and his lefty friends for hitting your tip jar. That should be worth something.
Sue him? Sure. “Blast him” for using the “N-word?” Hold on.
In the tweet quoted above, he uses this word not as a pejorative or insult to any individual, but simply as a word. I have always despised how the left take any use of that word, even cases where it has been used to criticize its use, and act as if the simple existence of it causes damage. There is, I believe, a distinct difference between using a pejorative and simply talking about, and I, for one, would not encourage Stacey to stoop to this particular level just to score a point.
No tweets for the past few hours. I wonder if he’s just realized that he’s crossed a line? Probably not.
Remember when the character Mork tossed the egg up into the air, saying, “Fly! Be Free!”?
That’s pretty much how such a thing flies.
[…] I Relaly “Get” Twitter…. Posted on April 20, 2012 12:50 pm by Bill Quick Hey, @Jack: Smear-Troll @DanVerg Commits Libel With Fraudulent Tweet : The Other McCain Let’s be clear, by the way: This isn’t just one of those Godwin’s Law things […]
RT ‘@dan_verg’ we’re only 10 weeks away from the birthday of Westley Allen Dodd. On July 3rd, join me in a minute of silence for my fallen hero.
Hey, I’m only just retweeting what ‘dan_verg’ was thinking.
Poppycock. It’s not enough to be better than they are, we must be better AT it than they are.
That was in 1955 Stacy wasn’t even born yet.
Nothing distasteful about any tactic one uses against the left.
I doubt there is any money to be gotten here but that’s no reason not to harass the nitwit any way one can.
After kicking them out of the gov’t trough, I favor allowing people to go bankrupt and not pay their colleges…..
Sure, it has problems, but it would hurt the colleges big time, and since they are one of the last zones of Near Complete Liberalism….bring on the napalm.
Wait, what?
“and I’ll be damned if I’ll let some obnoxious atheist punk get away with this kind of cheap smear.”
First off: Yes, that tweet was a cheap, low, utterly base shot at you. Have at him, hammer and tongs. Holler if you need help with this, I’d be happy to help.
Second: I’m regular reader, first time poster. I enjoy y’alls work – you make me smile, you make me think at times.
Now to the meat of this post. Let’s try this language on for size:
“… some obnoxious Mormon punk …”
“… some obnoxious Jewish punk …”
“… some obnoxious Catholic punk …”
You do see where I’m going with this, of course. Why the pejorative to the atheist? You’re better than that I think. Yes, I am one (atheist). Yes, you and I have profound differences in philosophy. But I believe you’ve fallen in an all to common trap: Conflating atheism with anti-theism. I’m not opposed to theistic belief, I’m simply not a theist. I think we’ve “got options” so to speak on what the meaning, purpose and placement of the human in the grand scheme of things. Neither side has lock on the truth here: Both our beliefs are articles of faith.
I should like to think your excess in that language resulted from anger, a spill-over effect from the verminous type whose tweet you lead off with and not due to all too common bigotry.
Long arm statutes. Presuming Twitter for legal purposes does business in MS presumably RSM could file suit in MS (of course he would have to find a lawyer there to do this for him). Might even get a twofer in that besides Twitter doing business it might be possible if the traffic were routed at somepoint through MS that might be a sufficent nexus to sue the punk in MS as well. At best you might get Twitter to pay the litigation expense and as for the punk, sounds like a typical leftwing hysterical moocher. Won’t get nothing from him but the default judgment will mess with his credit for years.
Sorry, Pete, but to embrace Leftism is to embrace dishonor.
Bingo!
Stacy, you DON’T know that this is Dan Verg. This could be someone who hijacked Dan Verg’s account in an effort to make you sue him. Someone wants you to litigate.
