World’s Youngest Blogger: What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been

Posted on | September 1, 2012 | 11 Comments

Everybody has to have a first plane trip.

At thirteen months, my teen-age self headed over to Germany to on the occasion of grandmother’s birthday. Parents being the embarrassment that they are, mom and dad neglected to tell grandma and grandpa that we were coming!
When the video starts, mom was seen out the dining room window. Grandpa looked out and noted that a woman walked by that looked like his daughter, down to the hair style. Of course, grandpa knew that mom, dad and I were in Virginia, having left us there Thursday. Old people are so easily confused like that!

Of course, grandma freaking out at seeing me made me freak out, too. But I quickly recovered and got back to work, making some phone calls.

Yes, Itty BItty, you’ve learned an important lesson. Your parents will embarrass you in front of everybody….

The little guy will soon be a seasoned traveler like my seven year-old grandson who travels from Portland, OR to Spain every summer to visit his relatives there. Enjoy!

While going on a vacation with kid(s), journey by plane and staying at (a family) home is easier…compared to journey by a car/bus and staying at a hotel.

I once went on a 5 day vacation with two kids (19 & 38 months) and 4 more adults (including the two parents and two grand parents.) The plane journeys were short but changing flights and taking care of them was a task. the bigger problem was staying at a resort (4 star) and traveling by a vechile for sightseeing etc. That was an hour-by-hour mission in itself. Finally, the adults took turns babysitting the kids in the hotel. I had the (un)pleasant oppurtunity to change the diapers once, but I didn’t/couldn’t(never did, till now)…luckily I found someone else just in time to do that for me!

I think your travel troubles are still in the infant state, Smitty. This is the time to watch out for…18 months to 4 years. From what I hear, that’s when the kids are the biggest pain in the ***.
