‘And It Just Blew Up’

Heteropatriarchal slut-shaming? Hell, I thought I was just making fun of a celebrity, until @Andria_XX enlightened me, and she had no idea what hit her when her Twitter timeline blew up with reactions to her Master’s degree in Gender Studies mini-lecture.

So now it’s “cyberbullying” and “rage tourism” of which I’m accused.

Let’s explain to @Andria_XX what happened: Sooper Mexican was searching Twitter for reactions to the Miley Cyrus VMA performance, and found that “heteropatriarchal” comment and Zilla Tweeted it to my attention. I had been working on something else, but once I saw that, I said, “This other thing can wait,” and did a Miley Cyrus post to highlight that ludicrous jargon: “heteropatriarchal.”

That’s not a word normal people use, which is why the question occurred to me, “Who is this person?” And . . . Gender Studies.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

OK, so @Andria_XX had fewer than 200 followers and had never in her life gotten as much Twitter attention as she got this morning.

It’s like when I got Tweeted by Alyssa Milano or William Shatner — except not in a good way — so she freaked out.

But she wasn’t being cyberbullied or stalked, she just happened to be the person who had the Stupidest Twitter Comment of the Day.

Did I mention that @Andria_XX is Canadian? No, but she did:

Actually in Canada, which again is where I live, you can be criminally charged for twitter harassment.

Very well, then. I do a blog post about you. You do a blog post about me. Who is harassing whom, @Andria_XX?

  1. Did you hear about how the author of Game of Thrones can’t use Twitter? He’s already killed 140 characters, see.

  2. I just assumed EBL would be even more concerned over tasty tasty baby cows being eaten.

Sliced up, and then each slice pounded flat. And then breaded and sauteed or fried. Mmmmmm. What were we discussing again?

  3. Women’s relations – personal, professional, social, economic – are defined by the ideology that woman is for man.

The purpose of a man is to love a woman,

And the purpose of a woman is to love a man,

So come on baby let’s start today, come on baby let’s play

The game of love, love, la la la la la love

  4. ChristoHomoPatriarchy is like the First Things site or those “anything goes, we celebrate homosexuality protestant” sects (ELCA) catering to the liberal masses who like a God pal

  5. The important is the “normal” label – once the tack on normal, they they believe anything goes and is justified, therefore spitting on dissenters is all good

  6. I don’t identity much with that side of me for whatever reason. I seem to have absorbed my father side of the family which is Canadian and British

  7. I’m particularly struck by this woman’s comment 20 yo. rich white kid’s (Miley) shouldn’t be expected to have the same level of self-awareness as others (by which I guess she means a filter for acceptable behavior).

So…does this mean anyone not young, rich, and white should and be called out when they don’t, but the former group should be granted a “get out of jail free” card? Sort of does revisit my comments on the other thread. Is this what feminism is fighting for? And if so, why?
I thought Canada prided itself on being more egalitarian to everyone vis a vis the U.S. (which is supposed to be egalitarian as well — oddly this comment does not smack of such things to my eye (perhaps it’s just me).

  8. Yeah, I know it all too well! A guy can dream, can’t he? I’m waiting for the day my transfer upstairs comes in … I’ll be eating goodies for the first millennium … (with the requisite beer to wash down the mass quantities).

  9. Let me get this straight: Sluts should not be shamed, but people who hold traditional Judeo-Christian sexual mores should?
