‘And It Just Blew Up’

Heteropatriarchal slut-shaming? Hell, I thought I was just making fun of a celebrity, until @Andria_XX enlightened me, and she had no idea what hit her when her Twitter timeline blew up with reactions to her Master’s degree in Gender Studies mini-lecture.

So now it’s “cyberbullying” and “rage tourism” of which I’m accused.

Let’s explain to @Andria_XX what happened: Sooper Mexican was searching Twitter for reactions to the Miley Cyrus VMA performance, and found that “heteropatriarchal” comment and Zilla Tweeted it to my attention. I had been working on something else, but once I saw that, I said, “This other thing can wait,” and did a Miley Cyrus post to highlight that ludicrous jargon: “heteropatriarchal.”

That’s not a word normal people use, which is why the question occurred to me, “Who is this person?” And . . . Gender Studies.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

OK, so @Andria_XX had fewer than 200 followers and had never in her life gotten as much Twitter attention as she got this morning.

It’s like when I got Tweeted by Alyssa Milano or William Shatner — except not in a good way — so she freaked out.

But she wasn’t being cyberbullied or stalked, she just happened to be the person who had the Stupidest Twitter Comment of the Day.

Did I mention that @Andria_XX is Canadian? No, but she did:

Actually in Canada, which again is where I live, you can be criminally charged for twitter harassment.

Very well, then. I do a blog post about you. You do a blog post about me. Who is harassing whom, @Andria_XX?

  1. That’s a fantasy, right there! At no time in human history has such a state of affairs obtained, barring some sort of mental case keeping a woman under his thumb.

  2. Has it ever occurred to these people that there are actual, real places in Africa and the Islamic crescent region where women are being stoned, raped, and otherwise actually mistreated?

Of course, doing something about them involves real work and not just whining on social media.

  3. If I were a county school super and saw Gender Studies on the resume I’d 86 that thing so fast time would appear to stand still.

  4. The reason I took up running: so I could eat! There are days it sucks, but being able to have the coq-au-vin makes it worth the time and effort.

  5. I tried to leave this comment on her page, but it bounced:

“Oh, wow, my head started spinning and won’t stop. Let me try to at least begin to put some sense into you. You, of your own accord, made public inflammatory comments. You chose to do this. You chose to make personal details of your life public. People criticized you for your insipid and poorly informed opinions, using humor. Your response to intellectual criticism is to hide away and accuse people of bad motives. And, yes, Canada has less free speech protections and supports censorship, something with has hurt groups such as Jewish activists trying to stand up against anti-Semitic targeting (because those Jews are accused of “Islamophobia”). That you claim to be an academic and want to promote free commentary is hilarious. You are nothing of the sort. You’re a wannabe censor, hardly different than a Canadian Tipper Gore.”

    I was way too nice.

  6. Sure, but she’d probably be fine with that, what with feminists believing that life starts when the baby leaves the hospital room (once in, even if he or she is totally delivered, he or she can be killed). Post-birth abortion being a woman’s right and all.

  7. Just throwing this out there: I was highly amused by the “heteropatriarchy” reference too. However, I did take a glance at her blog and, CV aside, she doesn’t seem all that cuckoo-feminist.

  8. She may not be a cuckoo-feminist (she’s an anti-feminist by her own words), but she’s certainly been brought up on a diet of leftie jargon.

“Actually I’m a straight, cis-female who is in a monogamous, long term heterosexual relationship. I like kids. I would like to have two of my own.”

She could have just said she’s a (mostly) normal woman.

  9. And that is a quote from a gen-u-ine Great American, the Dr. Franklin.

(Who would most assuredly support Rule 5)

  10. Darn you, Stacy. I just HAD to go look at andria’s twit-timeline and got caught in trying to beat back her “whites get out of drug charges because of white privilege” schtick. Good lord but left-feminists are stupid.

  11. It’s the Evil Heteropatriarchal Nature of Western Civilization that forces well-meaning Lesbian Feminists to screw in light bulbs by turning them towards the Right in these sort of jokes.

    For the oppression, y’see.

  12. Heh. I remember someone objecting to the term polyamory because of that. They insisted it should be multiamory or polyfidelity.

  13. Some random trivia: 86 is one of four numbers from 1 to 99 that have never had a US highway of that number. (The others are 39, 47, and 88.)

  14. IIRC she was an English major type. Don’t think orientation entered into the conversation at all.

  15. I’ll bet I could make tons of money selling fake internet erasers.

“Yes, anything embarrassing that is on the web, this little baby finds it and removes it like that!” *snaps fingers*

    Only $99.95 per item.

    (NSA: it’s a joke, okay?)

  16. I swear they just make this shit up as they go along. They take two words and then contract & merge them until any possible intended meaning is gone.

The one thing these words all have in common is a desperate attempt to deny reality.
