A few weeks ago, I used “The New Abnormal” as the title of an American Spectator column about Sydney Leathers and the Anthony Weiner scandal, and it’s also fairly apt for this example:

“My issue is this. These people are making Kate look like some pervert, some deviant because this happens to be girl/girl. People can deny that all they want, but its the truth. A senior boy would get a pat on the back for dating a freshman girl, it happens ALL the time, its happening at Sebastian High school and every other high school TODAY! . . .”

(Maybe it’s happening to your kids, Kelley, or to the kids of the other scummy no-account trash you seem to associate with, but it’s not happening to my kids, and if I found out it was happening to my kids, somebody would be in big trouble. Excuse me for interrupting. Now I’ll let you keep digging that hole for yourself.)

“Freshman girls, date, go to the prom, have relations with senior boys all the time . . .”

(Now that you bring up this subject, what about the claim that you let Kate’s sister Emily date a 20-year-old when she was only 14? Do you consider that perfectly normal, too?)

“. . . no one calls the boys perverts or deviants. They are making it some sick twisted, and dirty because its a lesbian relationship. BUt its NOT. Its kids, being kids. . . . .”

(You really should proofread your Facebook messages, Kelley. Or were you writing this while drunk?)

“Its 2013, kids are sexting in middle school. . . .”

(And you know this . . . how?)

“Do i like it, or approve NO but it doesn’t make these kids deviants or sex offender come on!! . . .”

(Ungrammatical sentence full of errors come on!!)

“This is a HORRIBLE situation and parents better be praying and getting on board to change these laws because any of you, could be next!!”

Kelley Hunt Smith never mastered basic grammar, and we can’t expect her to employ logic in her arguments, but the combination of bad writing, bad logic and bad morals is frightening.

Even if she believes her own childish “everybody’s doing it” argument, does she expect responsible adults to be persuaded by it?

But does Kelley Hunt Smith actually know any responsible adults?

If her kids were arrested for robbing a liquor store, Kelley Hunt Smith would be arguing, “Well, everybody’s robbing stores nowadays.”

She’s right about one thing, though: Parents “better be praying” — that their kids never get mixed up with skanky trash like Kelley’s kids.

    I feel disinclined to argue with him.

  8. I’m still predicting another sweetheart deal will get put on the table, and I’m calling it 50/50 if they’re bright enough to take it again, or try and play chicken to get a better deal.

  20. Honestly, I hope Kelley (and Kate, for that matter) will engage her brain and come to grips with reality. It won’t be pleasant for her, but it will be the best thing in the long run.

  22. She now faces greater censure at the hands of our legal system than she would ever have faced under one of her two generous plea deals. I can’t see her getting out of this without jail time (commuted perhaps) and registration as a sex offender. Not a great start to a young life – thanks mum and dad!

  23. Ha! Saw a T-shirt at a convention this weekend that said “I’m Jailbait – My father is armed.” with a headstone graphic. It came in pink *and* blue.

    Also, just wanted to say… Dating != having sex. Dear freaking dog. Really! Though as far as I can tell parents aren’t letting their sons and daughters date any younger than they did 30 years ago. Tweens may well be texting dirty jokes and half understood remarks but their parents are not letting them *date* until normal ages like 16 just like it’s been for a long time. Kids also drive less, work less, and date less… (on account of not driving and not having an income.)

    The kids who ARE dating at supposedly really super young ages are being facilitated by idiot parents.

  24. Be fair. For the time he was in charge of her she had a pretty near squeaky clean image. Unlike Kelly Hunt, I haven’t seen him taking to the internet to defend his daughter’s current behavior as perfectly normal things for kids to do.

  25. Okay so Kelley is right about the disproportionate treatment (wait) because an 18 year old boy who had sex with a 14 year old girl who’s parents reported him to the police WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE PLEA AGREEMENT!!

  35. I have only seen the pictures (gross), but it’s a picture of America right now – which is dominated by a porn culture

    You can’t expect a country that normalizes porn and homosexuality to be anything else than trash

  36. Just as one more example of the trash that America is right now with its liberal porn and homosexuality culture, if you read many comments and articles about the Cyrus MTV sleaze show, a good number of the commenters think the problem was racism

    McCain is German? He’s has a war of private vengeance going on? Wow! 🙂

  41. I use tracfone. It costs me the equivalent of 10 bucks a month and I don’t use it to surf, just text and voice. The service suits me fine and they’ve treated me quite well. My wife uses it as well.
    The grandkids I have custody of will not get a cell phone capable of “sexting.” Not ever while they are under my roof. The oldest won’t get anything until her junior year in HS at the earliest.
