You Stay Classy, Atheists!

Dana Perino was on Fox News discussing a lawsuit by atheists who don’t like kids having to say “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance:

“I’m tired of them. I remember working at the Justice Department years ago when I first started right after 9/11 and a lawsuit like this came through, and before the day had finished, the United States Senate and the House of Representatives had both passed resolutions saying that they were for keeping ‘under God’ in the pledge. . . . If these people really don’t like it, they don’t have to live here.”

A sample of the erudite atheist commentary in response:

And you wonder why ladies don’t want to go to atheist conferences? Atheists are so respectful, you f**king c**ts!

UPDATE: This is a recurrent theme with God-haters:

You can ask Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, Dana Loesch, Ann Coulter — any conservative woman who speaks on behalf of that which is good, true and decent will be bombarded with ugly filth from advocates of that which is evil, false and indecent, i.e., Democrats.

Democrat Party monsters even try to kill in the name of “social justice.” Because chicken sandwiches cause hate or something.

UPDATE II: What is it with Democrats and the “c-word,” huh?

  1. Congratulations on building a straw man argument using a false dichotomy.

I’m going to guess that your statistics, like 87.4% of all statistics, were made up on the spot.

  2. That’s why the Westboro Baptists mean we should find it hard to respect the thoughts of all Christians.

    Right?

  3. Atheism isn’t a religion, unless you worship the god Oxymoron.

Calling atheism a religion is a stubborn bit of false equivalency. I think that many who have spent their lives inside the faith bubble can’t even picture what it’s like on the outside, let alone that there *is* an outside.

But, yes, we agree that the people with blood on their hands are the ones with blood on their hands. Note that some philosophies require blood eventually. Not all do. Atheism, in particular, requires no particular action at all. It’s just the name for an absence of something.

  4. When I witness a “good Christian couple” berate their child about attending a school holiday pageant (yes, I know, “holiday pageant” is akin to the stupidity we’re talking about here) because “it’s sinful in the eyes of the Lord” and “you’ll burn in hell like all the rest of those kids”…I consider that a pretty good example of “casting the first stone” (as well as being nuttier than a bedbug…to the point of evil actually).
Or those so-called Catholics being addressed by a certain Mr. Paul, for a more public example.
If you asked them, I’m sure they would attest to being the truest of believers — and that’s what we have to go off of: not some ideal, as it should be, but how it is actually practiced (that’s why I said I have no beef with Christianity in general, but some of the outer fringes do indeed give me a strong case of the willies).

  5. I should add that this isn’t at all a purely Christian problem — see: Middle East, Burma, India, Africa, etc. ad nauseum.
Look to some of the comments by atheists and New Agers as has been highlighted.
In every case fanatical belief that they and they alone know “the path”.(or that there even is a path and they are the only special snowflakes allowed on it…while everyone else is…going to burn in some respective hot place and totally deserve to be sent there.

  6. Sorry, but it’s not a “meme” but a fact. Atheism meets all the definitions of what constitutes religion is just that Atheists rally hate that fact and rail against it.

I’m not going to respond to your faith quip because it’s beyond ignorant. Like most of your ilk, you define it in a way that fits your narrative and I’m not going to play your game.

  7. I mean that not everyone who shouts “Lord, Lord!” is granted access to heaven. Or rather, beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing — there are many who have foisted all manner of malfeasance off by taking on the phrase “God is with us”, just as there have been many good people led astray by them. I think it is wise to always been wary of anyone who would use the terminology — their intentions may not be as holy as their words would seem to suggest.

  8. Not content with just atheism, many atheists today opt for anti-theism; no doubt under the careful guidance of Santa’s anagram friend.

  9. Atheists are, by definition amoral. Any morals they posses, they possess because they are parasitic on religion. This has been shown repeatedly. Most recently Vox Day in his book “The Irrational Atheist” has broken this down and explained it.

For the atheist, there is no reason to be moral, as Christianity defines it, for example. There is no one to whom you must give an account of your life, so a Stalin or Mao is just as reasonable. You may not like these bad facts, but they are there for you to face, and face them you will either here or when you stand before the one whose very existence you wish to deny.

Frankly, anyone with solid knowledge of the state of modern Physics that does not accept there is a God is demented. There is no way the universe assembled itself by random chance. Quantum Physics places that fantasy utterly beyond reach of reasonable people. Modern Physics has led one Physicist to state that we live in a digital simulation in a larger reality. While we are filling some holes, we have bumped up against the limits of reality.

So, if you want to live with blind faith, that’s up to you. I chose not to do so. There is plenty of evidence of a higher being. You chose to reject it. I won’t join you in your irrationality.

  10. Certainly we need to be on guard. Always.

The reason I like the pledge in general (not speaking specifically of “under God” since I already said why I liked that part included) even though it hits some of my libertarian buttons is that… most rote sorts of declarations like that are valuable in that they establish a base-line, particularly for kids. In this case they state what our nation *should* be. The pledge is about the ideal, which is “liberty and justice for all.”

Historically, of course, not always (or necessarily often) true. But part of the upset we feel toward inequality and injustice and part of the upset we feel at attacks on our liberty is based in the indoctrination (and we can be honest and call it that) that taught us as children what our nation was *supposed* to stand for. That bone deep feeling of “that’s not right, that’s not US” is partly due to that early teaching.

On the surface of our consciousness and in our understanding we can explain why some things are wrong, or unconstitutional, or unconstitutional *and* wrong.

But in our hearts and emotions we *know* things, because that’s how we were taught.

  11. You’ve been too intellectually lazy to present a coherent argument, and have an appalling lack of historical knowledge or American cultural information.

  12. How would you define Buddhism, or Maori tribal beliefs, then? Neither of these have “gods”, yet they are religions.

  13. Exactly. Sin is personal not collective (except original sin). If you steal or kill, that sin is not upon my soul unless I was complicit in some direct (or for those who have a responsibility for other souls, i.e., pastors, teachers, parents, etc., indirect) manner.
idiots always want everyone else to bear the brunt of their predilections. Hate smoking? Ban it! Been taunted? Make it a hate crime! Scared by loud bangs and afraid of dead animals? Ban firearms. It’s never enough to avoid those things in your own life, you must ban them for everyone else. If that is not totalitarianism in microcosm I do not know what is.
These fools believe they are the pinnacle of everything, there is nothing greater in intellect or ability than themselves. Self worship. Any god that has themselves as a follower has an idiot flock.
Sad waste of a soul and an intellect that had possibilities until it became infatuated with itself.

  14. That’s both sophomoric and bigoted. Christians are “moral” because some external force, in this case an imaginary being, is telling them what to do and what not to do. Atheists are moral because they are internally motivated by their humanity, respect for others, and thought. We are accountable primarily to ourselves, but also to our families, friends, and society. I happen to think that internal motivation is better, having experienced both.

Your assertion that there is evidence for God in modern physics is not backed up by any evidence.

There is no evidence for God. He’s an untestable hypothesis, so even arguing the question is a waste of time. It certainly is not a scientific question.

    http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/God_of_the_gaps

One does have to notice, though, that there’s a pattern: As science expands our knowledge of how the universe works, the magisterium of religion tends to shrink. There simply is no rational way to not accept evolution as real. Those who deny it have to resort to irrational reasons.

  15. Doesn’t much matter. It’s kinda like asking what part of the garbage dump smells the worst. The whole thing stinks.

Individual pieces of the pile, might not stink and may even smell good but nobody sane goes sniffing around the dump. Some people in both groups may be decent folks but that’s not the way to bet.

  16. What is it with Democrats and the “c-word,” huh?

They’re just projecting the suppressed feelings they have for their own mother. It’s a very sad thing. Their mothers were obviously unprincipled women which has resulted in the lack of respect they display towards women in general. These men secretly desired their moms and role play mom/son scenarios with call girls and prostitutes.

The women who show this sort of disrespect for other women always hated their mom for being a dirty whore. They were jealous of the other kids who had nice homes and respectable parents. Hence their hate for women of integrity and values. As adults they’ve become isolated and bitter. You may have seen them cruising the produce aisle at your local market.

Have pity on them, it’s not their fault.

    HAHAHAHA YO MOMMA

  17. Dialectical materialism Is what Marxism is based on. Joseph Dietzgen coined the term. The theory has been around since the late 1800’s. Stalin just added to it. Can we not say that evil people can come from any stripe? Hitler was also in a seminary at one point in his life. Do we blame the Church for that? If we go back far enough Dietzgens study goes back to Aristotle. So lets just say there were evil people all throughout time. Also Mao and Pol Pot would probably not have been Christians anyway.

  18. You kinda missed my point while somehow simultaneously making it. Nobody should judge whichever side of things you’re on by your appeal to scatology, either.

  19. I love this country, and grew up feeling good about the pledge. Then I researched it. Everybody here knows it was written by a socialist, right? And that “under God” was tacked on in 1954? If either of those data surprise you, for heaven’s sake don’t research the salute the original author suggested.

  20. It’s basically what I get on my blog or in my interactions with liberals on the Net. Just sheer hate – and they couldn’t be more self-righteous about the way they vomit hate

  21. They are blocked now. I found reading their tweets was much like rubber necking a train wreak I was amazed that supposed adults wold think suck inane vulgar sound bites as “clever”.

  22. Well, it’s definitely misapplied toward Perino but having read your blog I can’t say I disagree. Your obsessive hatred for homosexuals, peddled as “science” is pathological to the extreme and is 100% going to generate an equal or stronger reaction especially from the gay community(and before you start ranting I’m not a part of). Of course, since you’re a self-righteous twit, and like all self righteous twits, you feel you’re being unfairly maligned.

  23. The only way you could claim that I have an obsessive hatred for homosexuals is because you have an obsessive hatred of me. You may not be part of the LGBT community, but you are certainly peddling their harmful agenda. Of course, since you are a self-righteous liberal twit, and like all self-righteous liberal twits, you feel you are right in maligning wonderful and decent social conservatives. The only thing you show yourself to be capable of is to endorse liberal hate, especially of the LGBT variety.
It’s exactly your kind of bigoted hypocrisy that I often blog about.

  24. Absolutely! You must renounce all previous faith to be ‘saved’ by socialism. There is no such thing as a Christian Socialist, a Jewish Socialist, a Hindu Socialist…… You must adopt a concept of Good and Evil that is established by the state.

Only when you put your trust in government will you find your peace in Utopia.

  25. I don’t have time to read all the comments, so forgive me if this has been said already. To argue that atheists cannot behave morally is silly on its face, IF one defines morality as a socially acceptable code of behavior. But that is also, irrelevant in the long term. The question always is whether a moral code or system of ethics is transcendent or merely a social construct. If one does not acknowledge that “Good” originates somewhere other than the Human heart, one is left waiting for the other shoe to drop when those in power decide morality needs to be changed to affect some change the powerful decide is necessary. Stalin’s actions were “moral” in his view because he created the morality. It existed by virtue of his whim at the moment. Clearly, he did not subscribe to a belief in a transcendent, yes God-ordained “Good.” So, when the moral atheist is asked, “why do you behave this way,” one may hear explanations about social contracts and such, but the exist question always is, “what if the social construct changes?” There’s never a satisfactory answer to that. Even if the atheist refuses to admit it, the idea of a morality solely supported by pure, unrestrained power is extraordinarily frightening.

  26. Oh, and BTW, atheism is a religion insofar as its faith is directed toward something they call “chance,” in that, as materialists, they hold that our existence is due to extremely fortuitous circumstances as opposed to the will of a Creator.

  27. You really are crazy and that little rant proves it. Objectivity, as in reading your blog, which would give Der Sturmer a run for it’s money, and your comments is how I know you have an obsessive, pathological hatred of homosexuals, and like other twisted haters before you you try to rationalize your prejudices by disguising them as science. The Nazis did it to Jews, Klansmen and other American racists did it to blacks, and you’re doing it to gays. It’s baffling too that you’re so thickheaded and deluded about your cause that you can’t understand why LGBT people and their defenders would find your blog which paints them as perverts and mental cases would be offensive and in turn would malign you? Really? Who are you to sit there and peddle your hate and then think people should just take it? DROP DEAD! You are scum. And you’re not worth personally hating, even though you’re vile, so don’t flatter yourself by thinking I would waste that much emotion on you. The rest of your little screed is just a lot of projection. And regardless of what you think you are neither decent nor wonderful and in realty are a social blight.

  28. oooh!

You really are crazy and your little rant proves it. Objectivity, as in
reading your comments here which would give Der Sturmer a run for it’s money, and your comments is how I know you have an obsessive, pathological hatred of myself and intelligent, decent folks, and like other twisted haters before you you try to rationalize your prejudices by disguising them as science, and progress. The Nazis did it to Jews, Klansmen and other American racists did it to blacks, NAMBLA did it to kids, rapists did it to women, and you’re doing it to socons. It’s baffling too that you’re so thickheaded and deluded about your cause that you can’t understand why socons and their defenders would find your comments which paints them as haters and Hitlers would be offensive and in turn would smack your vitriol right back at you? Really? Who are you to sit there and peddle your hate and then
think social conservatives should just take it? DROP DEAD! You are scum. And you’re not worth personally hating, even though you’re vile, so don’t flatter yourself by thinking I would waste that much emotion on you. YOUR ENTIRE SCREED IS JUST A LOT OF PROJECTION – and it’s flying right back smack in your face. And regardless of what you think you are neither decent nor wonderful and in realty are a social blight.

  29. Dictionaries are not the font of all truth, particularly when it comes to religious usage. Blind faith is what you possess. I do not.

  30. You have a strange idea of what scatology is. Ass = Donkey. The term is used to indicate a number of things having to do with certain aspects of an ass’s personality. Assclown is kind doubling down, something you seem to want to do.

  31. Sic ’em!!! You go Girl! Those H8trz are gonna H8 anyone that doesn’t bless their sordid mental illness.

  32. Oh noes!! The rational Wiki. Clearly, you are grossly ignorant of Modern Physics. Anyone that looks at what little we know and truly believes that what we see occurred by simple happenstance is not just corner drugstore crazy, you are utterly demented.

As I said, I won’t join you you in your asylum.

  33. I would submit that it was people that claimed to be Christian that have blood on their hands. If you study the Teachings of Christ (hopefully not from some leftard idiot) you will see that those claiming to murder, to take on example, in the name of Christ weren’t following the teachings of Christ.

  34. You can whine all you like. Atheism is a religion. period. In your limited, and biased, mind it may not be a religion, but it meets the tests for a religion, and you don’t get to pick the tests either.
