What depths of self-hatred could lead someone to this?

Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was given legal euthanasia, most likely by lethal injection, on the grounds of “unbearable psychological suffering” on Monday afternoon. . . .
“I was the girl that nobody wanted,” Mr Verhelst told Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper in the hours before her death. . . .
Mr Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009, followed by a mastectomy and surgery to construct a penis in 2012. But “none of these operations worked as desired”.
“I was ready to celebrate my new birth,” he told the newspaper. “But when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be… a monster.”
The case will revive Belgium’s debate over medical euthanasia as statistics show a steep year on year increase in the number of patients killed by doctors after a request to die.

The distance between one’s desires and one’s reality can most easily be shortened by accepting reality. The alternative of pursuing hopelessly unrealistic desires is likely to end unhappily.

  2. This sad story starts out with an unwanted child eventually feeling compelled to attempt to become something they are not. Enduring physical mutilation to deal with a mental problem and coming to the sad but hardly surprising realization that surgery does not change your biological sex.

    So when surgical mutilation fails to correct your mental illness you resort to state sanctioned suicide as a final resolution.

    What a horrible tale that pretty well sums up the evil agenda of the left. Tell me the fingerprints of Satan are not all over this.

  4. All I can say is thank the nonjudgmental, nonspecific hypothetical ultimate principal of the universe for a state health system so responsive to the desires of Its subjects.

    At that Nathan/Nancy got a better deal than the infants, children and elderly who have been euthanized by Dutch “doctors” without the consent of their families by the authority of the state.

  7. You know the rest of the story, right? This person was rejected at birth as ugly and worthless by his mother; deep pathology, no bonding. She thought her an ugly baby and would speak openly of wishing she had been a boy. It’s the saddest story I’ve ever heard. This person was unsuitable for an operative sex change in every possible way. The expectations were unrealistic and it was never going to resolve the childhood rejection.

  9. It’s my understanding that the suicide rate among those that under go sex mutilation surgery is disturbingly high.

    It has been known for a long time that homosexuality, and similar disorders are mental illness. You can’t fix mental illness with surgery. You simply exacerbate the problem.

  10. I truly grieve when I think of all the children who are emotionally destroyed by adults who wish to pursue some twisted agenda. It is “misery loves company” writ large on the lives of others. Make no mistake. There are busy bodies out there more than willing to tell impressionable children and parents that they or their child needs “help.” Once they step down that road, it’s very difficult to come back, as Ms. Verhelst’s story proves. What’s sickening is that while her mother may have started the abuse, it was continued every step of the way by “liberal” people telling her that what she wanted was “Ok” and indeed, necessary for her own self-actualization or some such nonsense. A pox on their houses.

  12. It was known… but the witch doctors we know as psychiatrists burnt their herbs and shook their rattles and danced their dances and revised the DCM. Just as they magically made psychopathy disappear, and this last go-round, Asperger’s.

    In the latter two cases it was because the diagnosis was far too accessible to the layman. What’s the saying? “All professions are conspiracies against the laity.”

  15. Let’s see. A mentally ill person requested genital mutilation that somebody else probably had to pay for and then kills self a few years later because of deep self-loathing.

    I suppose the euthanasia nuts and the LGBT nuts will hold a party and declare this a win for perverts everywhere.

  16. Yes, a tragic story from beginning to end. When informed of her daughter’s death, the “mother” said it caused her no grief because she had been an ugly child and they never bonded, so she would not mourn her. What a tragedy. All I keep thinking is “poor child, poor child.” For those inclined to prayer, that girl needs them.

  19. What’s also noteworthy is that this occurred in Belgium, a country notorious for its liberal attitudes toward sexual freedom. Ms. Verhelst resided in what amounted to Nirvana for her, without all the nasty, judgmental Christianists harshing her mellow with Bible verses, and such.

    Yet, having received everything she wished for, she still wasn’t happy and felt herself to be a “monster.” Her story puts a lie to the propaganda that all LGBTQ ad nauseum people need is understanding and the freedom to pursue their desires.
