‘Isolated Incident’ in D.C. Today
UPDATE: Connecticut Woman ‘Had a History of Mental Health Issues’

Consider this just a place-holder post, really. Some crazy lady went on a vehicular rampage in Washington, D.C., today. She reportedly tried to ram the gates at the White House, then led cops on a chase to Capitol Hill, where she rammed a police car before finally being shot to death. She reportedly had a child in the car with her, and the child was unharmed.

Who was this woman? What was her motive?
this point, I have no clue and don’t want to speculate.

Ace of Spades notices the New York Times trying to connect this incident to the “fiscal crisis,” but it’s silly to imagine that every kook who goes berserk is responding to political events. When I flipped out on psilocybin in 1979, you couldn’t blame the Carter administration.

Becca Lower points out that liberals are blaming this on the government shutdown, as if cops had been furloughed, which they haven’t.

Police are calling it an “isolated incident,” which means it’s likely just a nutjob, and I haven’t seen any headlines yet to suggest a political motive. Rather than try to start speculating or playing the blame game, I’ll just wait for updates. Please link any relevant reports in the comments, or hit me up on Twitter if there’s important developments.

Remember something I’ve said before: Until they ID the suspect, there’s no way to know the motive. Just chill for a bit, and we’ll see.

UPDATE: Well, this didn’t take very long:

A dental hygienist from Connecticut was the female driver who tried to ram her car into a White House barricade and was shot dead near the US Capitol after a high-speed chase through Washington streets Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Sources said Miriam Carey, who formerly lived in Brooklyn, was licensed to practice in New York and Connecticut and had a permit to work as a hygienist in Connecticut prisons. . . .
ABC News said the 34-year-old woman had a history of mental health issues. A task force of FBI and Secret Service agents was executing a search warrant at her Connecticut home, CNN said.

Just a crazy woman. Anybody got a photo yet?

UPDATE III: Daily Caller has the liberal ghoul round-up:

Should I have held my tongue? I couldn’t resist:

UPDATE IV: Ace gets pretty brutal here. The, uh, demographic factors are being referenced. As soon as “Capitol shooting” made the headlines, some people imagined this had to be a story about a right-wing Tea Party gun nut. If that had been the case, this story would have gotten wall-to-wall coverage for weeks. Morning Joe would have been a three-hour telethon for gun control Friday morning. Chris Matthews and Piers Morgan would have been blaming the NRA.

But no, it’s just a crazy woman in a car who got shot by the cops, and the media will decide this is not an important story. Move along.

  1. Crazy with no sane agenda types seem to be popping up all the time as being violent.

    I’m seeing a pattern here. . .

  2. Was she crazy? High? or made a wrong turn, had a dozen pistols shoved in her face and tried to protect her baby?
The Prognazis celebrate death, and exalt death that furthers their political agenda.

  3. Yikes. In some comment threads in post-ID news stories she appears to be some sort of new St. Skittles.

  4. I don’t think Ace was brutal at all and thanks for the up-to-the-minute reporting, Robert.

Don’t think anyone is falling for the ploy of a deranged tea party killer anymore. It never pans out.
More and more, the left is looking like insane banshees. I like that.

  5. We will learn she was crazy. She had some personal problem and was fixated on the idea that somebody in Washington was to blame, or that she could “make a statement” of some kind.

As for the cops shooting her, there are reports that she struck at least one pedestrian and rammed a police car. That’s attempted murder. For all the cops knew, her car could have been crammed with explosives. So, yeah, she got shot. End of story.

  6. All that might make sense but for the fact the she was a mother. No mother would ever do something that deliberate with her child in the backseat.

  7. When people panic, they behave predictably unpredictable, like a crazy woman might behave, but there’s the element of self-preservation. Protecting a baby can generate a level of aggression, and a car is weapon. It’s that she backs up and tries to get away – an act of self-preservation. Or going to a secondary target when frustrated with the first. Either way, she had neurons firing in sequence.
I’m waiting for the coroner to make the call.

  8. It’s not often you hear about women killers anymore. They’re out there but it’s not front page news. I read and pay attention and I now it happens. It doesn’t fit the current narrative of the MSM.

  9. I don’t think there’s any question that lethal force was justified, or that the officers showed a great deal of restraint (perhaps moreso than they might have otherwise, because of the infant in the car.)

So far I’ve seen people who were very sure this afternoon that a ‘bagger was shooting up their Capitol and that mass executions of the usual suspects should commence, do a hard reverse into laments of cold blooded cop murder of a helpless woman and her baby. Because obviously , they could have stopped her car with a magnet! or shot her tires out! or been nicer!

  10. One thing I haven’t seen in the news, but saw in some random comment, is that she was in possession of a suspicious package that contained a white powdery substance. For all I know it was tooth polish or didn’t exist at all… looking to see if its metntioned elsewhere.

Has it been confirmed that the infant in the car was her own daughter?
