The Endless Debacle of ObamaCare

No one can remember a policy disaster quite like this. Every day brings multiple new bad-news headlines. We could compare the sudden and seemingly permanent debacle of ObamaCare to the way the insurgency in Iraq sapped President Bush’s second-term popularity, but there are obvious differences between the two situations: We invaded Iraq after a long public debate, and after the policy was authorized by Congress on a bipartisan vote, whereas ObamaCare was rammed through Congress on a party-line vote with the Democrat Speaker of the House saying she had to pass the bill so we could know what was in it.

Democrats own ObamaCare exclusively, and so its failure — which is even more self-evident than was the failure of Bush’s Iraq policy — threatens to inflict permanent political damage. A few headlines:

State Insurance Commissioners Won’t Let Them?

As Joe Curl says, Obama will try to turn this around by blaming insurance companies and Republican opposition for the failure of his policy and, at some point, the liberal media will line up in lockstep to parrot the Democrat talking points. Yet all the White House spin and all the media sycophancy in the world cannot hide the abject failure of ObamaCare, and Democrats will pay the political price next November.

Note to Democrats: Denial is not an effective political strategy.

  1. As an historical metaphor for Obama Care, I propose His Swedish Majesty’s Ship Vasa, which was a huge government project at great cost, plagued with the interference of the sovereign who had no experience with naval architecture, and launched with the extreme reservations of the builders upon the demand of the king. It sailed 1300 meters and then promptly capsized with the first moderately strong gust of wind.

  2. This is laughably bad. Except I got cancelled and my premiums and deductibles are set to double. So its not so funny.

  3. Every word you write is true. But if Obamacare succeeds in wrecking the medical insurance industry – which is its competition for the role of third party payor – then there won’t be an alternative to the the catastrophic lie that is Obamacare. Which seems to be the whole idea, along with the corruption, cronyism and influence peddling.
Note that the huge money suck which that Obamacare will be will make a vigorous foreign policy impossible. By ceding the Middle East to the Russians and a whole lot else to the Chinese, Obama is prepositioning us for that, too.

  4. Liberal Logic™ 2003: “9/11 was an inside job! Fire can’t melt steel!” Liberal Logic™ 2013: “Insurance companies sabotaged ObamaCare!”
Obamacare is sure melting my bank account!!

  5. Most people look at all of his various boondoggles and see a series of disconnected acts, united by incompetence and hubris. Unfortunately, they become perfectly understandable if one presupposes a motive to destroy the greatness of the United States in penance for the “evil” which he believes, thanks to his Marxist/Progressive upbringing, the U.S. has perpetrated over its long history. In other words, he sees himself as bringing righteous judgment upon a nation of “sinners” and providing recompense to those he believes we have harmed.

  6. Rush said so three years ago. Ted Cruz said so three weeks ago and was vilified for it, by the GOP!

Your cautions are justified. However, there is not enough money to fund a third party payor system (and certainly not the will for it), so we have that bright spot to consider.

Obama actually believed a lot of his own bullshit, Hubris, it can be a real bitch sometimes. Just like Karma.

  7. Just a bit. Although there’s a chance that the insurance company will un-cancel me since Obama authorized it via press conference.

  8. The point is Obama has to be callow, inexperienced, and unknowledgeable to believe his own bull. Oh wait, he is.

  9. Here’s something I posted at a few other places:

There’s an analogy that has been floating around in my mind for a long time. Obamacare is a child created by a 3-way between Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. Prenatal testing showed that the result is brain damaged, physically impaired, and will be extremely costly to maintain as long as it is alive. It was also known that the delivery would be a breach birth that could endanger the health of the “mother”.

So, since the Dems are the pro-choice party, why didn’t they abort this bastard?

  10. The President is playing out a Shakespearean or classical tragedy, mingled with elements of comedy and farce as his supporters frantically try to spin mucky straw into gold. He’s trapped himself into a politically suicidal course of action. His chief supporters and advisers are in with him: Reid and Pelosi can keep trying to flog the Democrats in line, but congressmen are caught between the impotence of ostracism from the party on the one hand and angry voters on the other. Some already look to be breaking in favor of trying to appease the voters. I wish them all the luck that dishonesty and incompetence deserve. Once partisan discipline breaks down, there will be no getting it back. How long can journalists resist the smell of blood in the water?

  11. Alone among Democrats willing to go on the record, Pelosi isn’t sorry and still insists the President spoke the truth all along, apparently including the multiple contradictions.

But some Republicans and conservative bloggers are also bashing the insurance companies for “going along” with ACA, as if they had a choice other than to be nationalized. Democrats controlled the whole she-bang, even filibuster-proof in the Senate until old Teddy was called home by Satan, and had a large caliber gun to the industry’s heads.

Insurance executives have a legal fiduciary responsibility to their stockholders, not to fight to save America or Republicans from our own follies.

  12. Perhaps, Mr. Obama’s “fix” is merely “undocumented” not “illegal.”
Yeah. These policies will just sneak in from Mexico or Canada.
Or at least that is Mr. Obama’s DREAM.

  13. I wonder how many visitors it would take to make the healthcare website actually catch fire. As patriotic Americans it’s our duty to help test it. Say at 12 PM eastern on Dec. first.

  14. Unless you live in Washington or one of the other states where the insurance commissioners have informed Obama “You’re not the boss of me” or words to that effect.
