Happy #FreeKate Thanksgiving: Lesbian Cheerleader Spends Holiday in Jail

Of the many strange stories I’ve covered in my 27-year career, none of them — not even the 2012 Iowa GOP caucus campaign — was quite as bizarre as the Kaitlyn Hunt story, which originally struck me as sort of a joke: “You deviant weirdos thought Jailbait Lesbian School Girls was just a popular DVD title, but now it’s a civil right.”

What I failed to anticipate six months ago was that the fanatics who supported the “Free Kate” campaign were so devoted to the cause of legalizing gay sex with 14-year-olds that nothing could stop them. At first, I thought these people were just naive liberals who had been misled by the false propaganda depicting Kaitly Hunt as an innocent victim of homophobia and claiming she was barely two years older than the freshman girl with whom she had been involved.

Alas, I misunderstood. Despite weeks of devastating revelations about the twisted freak at the center of this story, the unwavering devotion to “Saint Kate of the Blessed Finger” not only continued, but became increasingly manic. By the time Kaitlyn Hunt was finally sentenced to jail in October, I realized that her hard-core supporters are a deranged bunch of perverts, wackos and criminal deviants.

In other words, Democrats.

Some folks think it’s perfectly OK for underage girls to spend the night having sex with a tattoo-covered dildo-wielding lesbian.

And some folks voted for Obama twice.

The world has gone crazy, and so I found myself covering a story that seemed like it should have begun, “Dear Penthouse Forum . . .”

“Free Kate” fanatics have continued attacking Jeanette Runyon, who obtained the documents which should finally convince any sane person that Kaitlyn Hunt is a seriously disturbed young woman:

Florida sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt, jailed for having sex with a 14-year-old girl, would not let the younger girl break up with her and threatened to expose the high school freshman’s lesbian activity, according to documents obtained from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. In a January text-message conversation with Hunt’s mother, the younger girl said: “I don’t wanna just say leave me alone Kaitlyn because last time that didn’t end well for me. … I had to beg myself outta that situation. … She just threatened to put all the stuff we had out.”
That was confirmed by a Sheriff’s Office detective’s interview with one of the girl’s basketball teammates. Kiandrea Pound, who was captain of the Sebastian River High School basketball team, said the younger girl “told her she attempted at one point to break it off with Kaitlyn,” Detective Jeremy Shepherd wrote. “However, Kaitlyn would not let her. Kaitlyn threatened to tell people about her sexual orientation.” . . .

  18. The “older girl” was 18 and a high school senior, and the “younger girl” was 14, and a high school freshman. This wasn’t a story of a 40 year old man or woman in an actual position of power grooming an 11 year old for sex. Trying adding context instead viewing the world in such black and white terms. Is it really so impossible to believe she actually cared for her? Oh wait, if she was 17 she would be able to love her but once she turned 18 she was a violent predator. It’s amazing that you can’t see how stupid that sounds.

    I wonder how much more clear it needs to be made for people to stop defending their saint Kate?

    It amazes me that you can’t read and comprehend that Kate Hunt at age 18 and 19 coerced, manipulated, threatened, bullied and blackmailed a 14 year old.

    In black and white she was warned by family to stay away from the girl. She was ordered by a judge to stay away from the girl. At every point Kate Hunt had the choice to do right or wrong and she chose her own selfish sexual lust over the good of another – the 14 year old girl.

    Perhaps if her parents and her supporters, people like you, had stopped telling her she was perfect and could do no wrong – she might have chosen a different path and not be sitting in jail today.

    No, sir. The problem is not us. The problem is you and the others who insisted that, because Kaitlyn Hunt was a telegenic cheerleader with a superficially plausible narrative of innocence, the laws which apply to ordinary people should not apply to her.

    If Kaitlyn had been willing to accept the plea bargain, we never would have heard of her. Instead, she became a national celebrity — the World’s Most Famous Sex Offender — and this was your fault, not ours.

  35. You can be a victim of hubris. In fact, that’s the point. Problem is, we often lose sight of the fact that other people can be victim’s of somebody else’s hubris.

    My point is that Kate is a victim of her own bad choices and from taking bad advice. Certainly not that she’s due any sympathy.

    In fact, it’s the presence of actual innocent victims in play here that prevents me experiencing any schadenfruede. Kate deserves what she’s getting, in spades. Sadly she has inflicted damage on people that she will never be able to make good, even if her twisted sense of entitlement and boundless narcissism would permit to acknowledge her responsibilities.

    She has a whole life ahead of her to learn from this, and so far nothing in her behavior suggests that she’s capable of that. My expectation is that she will continue to inflict bad decisions on herself and others until a pathetic and ugly crash.

    Leaving the Kaitlyn Hunt drama out of it, what do you think a proper separation of years is between two people engaging in sexual acts?
    There is always black and white. Society draws a line based upon current norms and enacts laws to make sure that everyone knows what those lines are.
    In cases involving the concept of age of consent ( for all manner of things not just sexual activity) there are laws meant to protect minors and teenagers from making decisions that they are not mature enough to understand the consequences of.
    Children under the age of 18 cannot enter into contracts, 17 year-olds may enter the military only with parental consent, 14 year-olds cannot consent to sexual activity.

    This is for the protection of the minor child so it must be black and white, clearly defined lines.

    Now back to Kaitlyn Hunt. Even if Ms. Hunt had been 16 or 17 years of age do you think she should have been engaging in penetrative sex acts in a bathroom stall at school with a 14 year-old? Should she have taken the 14 year-old to her home in the middle of the night without her own or her victims parents knowing ? Should she have violated a judges no-contact order 20,000 times to include pornographic images?

    Kaitlyn Hunt or no Kaitlyn Hunt – this all seems very black and white ESPECIALLY when seen in the full context you so earnestly defend.
