On ‘The View,’ @Belle_Knox Says ‘Most People’ Start Watching Porn at Age 12

Three weeks ago, when I first started blogging about Duke University freshman Miriam Weeks — a/k/a “Belle Knox,” the teenage porn star — some readers probably thought, “Yeah, there he goes again, on a weird marginal tangent.” But then she was interviewed by Piers Morgan on CNN and just Monday she appeared on ABC’s The View and, as weird as it may be, this story isn’t really so “marginal” anymore, is it?

Here’s your Belle Knox money quote from The View:

“Well, I, like most other people, have been watching
porn since I was 12 years old. . . . I watched it alone
and, like most other females, there’s a stigma
against watching pornography, so I was not
open about watching pornography.”

This quote occurs at about the 2-minute mark of the video clip:

A few obvious problems with this quote:

  • Are “most” 12-year-olds watching porn? Really?
  • Does the “stigma against watching porn” apply only to females? Isn’t the creepy guy wanking to porn also stigmatized?
  • Is the problem with 12-year-olds watching porn that they are “not open” about it because of the “stigma”? Or does Miriam Weeks want us to believe it’s healthy for kids to watch porn?

Isn’t there something profoundly disturbing about the idea that your typical seventh-grade classroom is full of porn freaks? But never mind that, says Miriam Weeks/”Belle Knox” — one of The View ladies made her feel “judged”!

‘Belle Knox’, the Duke student-turned-porn-star, claimed today that Sherri Shepherd was very condescending to her during her appearance on The View on Monday.
Knox — whose real name is Miriam Weeks — said that Shepherd refused to accept her decision to star in pornographic films to fund her tutition at the prestigious college — leaving her feeling judged.
Speaking out [Tuesday] on HuffPost Live, the 18-year-old star of some 30 adult movies also revealed that she does in fact regret one particular sex scene she starred in because it was too rough.
Appearing on Monday’s The View, Weeks said that all the women on the panel of the long running topical show made her feel they were scornful of her porn-career, but in particular Shepherd.
‘Sherri Shephered — was incredibly condescending and totally ignored by sexual autonomy,’ said Weeks to HuffPost Live.
Discussing the reaction to her outing by a fellow student as a porn-star with the all-female panel, Weeks said that at least Whoopi Goldberg left her feeling that she wasn’t alone.
‘Whoopi gave me a hug afterwards,’ said Weeks about her appearance on the show in which she revealed she had been watching porn since she was 12-years-old.
Indeed, Weeks also gave details of her regrets in the industry — namely an appearance in a rough sex scene which she filmed in New York City.
‘I regret doing the rough sex scene,’ said Weeks to HuffPost Live’s Ricky Camilleri.
‘But when I did the scene, I was comfortable.’ . . .
‘I love rough sex — and I can do this. That’s what I saw the choice as being.’

The fact that one of her first porn videos showed Miriam Weeks getting slapped around and raped is one of those “empowering” things only a Duke University Women’s Studies major can understand.

Guys who enjoy watching a teenage girl being sexually brutalized on video? Well, certainly we wouldn’t want to them to have a sense of stigma, because they might feel judged or something.

Here’s The View on Tuesday, talking about “feedback”:

  1. The thing is, when I was a kid 98% of what was considered porn is now so normalized it’s seen on daytime TV if you leave HBO on. And I’m not even that old.

  2. Great. When can we have her on the Disney Channel?

And by the way, there’s an entire world of difference between “rough” sex and that humiliation/rape-fantasy crap.

But look, every woman who accepts money to be humiliated is basically enabling the abuse of other women by men who get the idea that this is the way sex works. The problem with studies purporting to show no connection is that they focus on actual rapists, and not on relationships that failed because the woman noticed her partner was getting dangerous. Date rape is “under-reported”, but sexually active relationships that go bad due to people who have watched too much pr0n is NEVER reported.

  3. I don’t get it.

But then she was interviewed by Piers Morgan on CNN and just Monday she appeared on ABC’s The View and, as weird as it may be, this story isn’t really so “marginal” anymore, is it?

Piers Morgan isn’t marginal? Tell that to CNN, who just fired him for his low ratings.

“The View” isn’t exactly mainstream thought, either. Who is their audience? Most stay-at-home Moms are far too busy to listen to a bunch of old crones kvetch for an hour. The audience is welfare queens and layabouts. Sounds pretty marginal to me.

Oh, the story was worth a post and a follow-up. But what’s this – six? or more? It’s becoming an obsession.

  4. Ms. Weeks still hasn’t figured out that she’s sending inconsistent messages. She cannot be both a victim of the high cost of education (again, please ignore the full scholarship offer at Vanderbilt) and be a totally empowered, “this is my valid choice,” “I’m sticking it (figuratively) to the Patriarchy Feminist icon.

And as far at her interlocutors on The View “judging her,” well, what does she expect? She’s the one who’s gone on the P.R. offensive tossing up various mutually exclusive justifications for her actions. She as set herself up as a proponent of this behavior; she is arguing that it is a good and acceptable and virtuous within her moral framework. Newsflash: When you set yourself up as a spokesperson for anything, especially ethics, you better prepare yourself for reactions from the opposing side.

  5. But what’s this – six? or more? It’s becoming an obsession.

    Eight, actually.

Could be an obsession fueled by not watching enough porn…

  6. At the DailyMail UK, there are pictures showing some type of self cutting behavior on Knox’s leg. A possible tie in to her obvious mental illness?

    http://tinyurl.com/oe738dn

For the View, Knox herself or any other defender trying to make this behavior mainstream (normal), may you rot in hell.

  7. And if it is true that 12 year olds are routinely watching porn, well, then, adios civilization.

Mamet had a line in a recent article about “19 year old males who are jaded about sex.” Yes, how the hell does that happen?

  8. “19 year old males who are jaded about sex.”

Whether it’s the exposure to pornography or less overt attempts to sexualize children, its purpose to degrade sexual intimacy and love to a mere bodily function without connection to marriage or family. Just as a human in the womb is degraded to the moral equivalent of a hangnail, so too that aspect of human behavior which necessitates foundational institutions of any stable society is stripped of its moral significance.

N.B. I make no reference to God here. The irony is that those who wish to elevate Humanity to the center of the Moral Universe wind up destroying those institutions which distinguish humans from everything else. Something we Christians figured out a long, long time ago.

  9. Poor girl, I cannot imagine the twists she’s going through just to begin to maintain any self-respect at all.

How did this happen to her? She seems intelligent enough (part of why she can make complicated fancies to keep herself from really looking at what she’s doing), and her family doesn’t sound insane, so how did she get into watching porn that young?

  10. Soaps were the worst on that front, though I didn’t know that until I got really sick back in the late 80’s and ended up at home for almost three months.

  11. like most other females, there’s a stigma against watching pornography

As opposed to the universally embraced idea that watching porn is encouraged in male viewership?
Reaction to men watching porn: Ew! Creepy! Demeaning! Wrong! Icky!
Reaction to women watching porn: Tee hee! Empowerment! You go, grrl! Hawt!

Then again, Miriam seems to have a variety of cognitive issues.

  12. Whoopi “it wasn’t rape rape” Goldberg not only didn’t judge Belle Knox, she defended the Duke porn mistress?

    Color me unsurprised.

  13. I’m told that there is something called “The hook-up culture”, and it begins much earlier than I really believed.

  14. I’m with Dianna. No one has to read this blog. Stacy has explained why, after the 2012 election, he decided to focus on certain social issues. His blog, his choice. If the articles here don’t interest me on a particular day, I read something else. And this “obsessive” fixation he has on topics that interest him resulted in a BlogBash award two weeks ago.

  15. Check out the total number of Stacy’s posts under the category of “Sex“, and you’ll see that it’s not an obsession, it’s a meme.

  16. Rot in Hell? She is certainly more mature than you. In her own words:

“I realize that the visual of me with a facial at the end was nothing compared to the close-ups the site provided of my skin revealing scars from my most vulnerable past when I was a cutter. This is a fact that my haters have taunted me for, their words dripping in condescension and insensitivity.

I’ve been clean from this self-harm for five years now, but like many young women grappling with depression, I used to take it out on myself. (For anyone who has this issue, I encourage them to seek help immediately and to not feel ashamed. You are OK. Your self-harm does not define you. Get help. You are loved, and you can get past this. Please call the Self-Harm Hotline at 1-800-DONT-CUT or 1-800-366-8288).

Does my admission that I cut when I was a teenager suddenly make me the porn stereotype of a “depressed, crazy girl”? I would say it’s the exact opposite. I have nothing to hide. People from all walks of life have engaged in self harm — from celebrities to politicians to models to porn stars. I honestly believe it is often the people who will not show you their demons who have the worst ones to hide.”

  17. There once was a girl named Belle Knox who only had eyes for big cox her titties were tiny so she gave’em her hiny cause that’s just the way Belle rox.

  18. You choose an odd quote to illustrate your assertion of her “maturity.” Clearly, she has gravitated from one form of self-abuse to another, yet she doesn’t have the self-awareness to acknowledge that fact. Yet, she and her handlers along with various other acolytes of the “Church of Nihilism” not only seek to normalize her behavior but further wish to elevate it to some form of heroism. Yes, such a twisted use of an obviously emotionally and mentally damaged young girl is truly evil. The fact that you cannot or will not admit it and seek to join in the accolades says quite a bit about you.

  19. There’s a good bet that her pornified behavior is what led to the depression. Her entire life is now marked by self destructive behavior. The road to sanity will involve her giving up her “empowerment.” God did not design us to act in the manner she is acting and it’s no surprise when we see what she is doing to herself.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but she has been lied to.

  20. I would rather not talk about it. I would only say I have great respect for all my teachers. Fellow students, that’s a different story.

  21. You and Belle, projecting much? What is it with liberals? They like to assume that just because their deficient upbringing brought them in contact with perversion at an early age, that everyone must be doing it.

Sorry Anamika, this is not normal. Sexual perversion, debauchery, pornography, pedophilia, homosexuality – they’re all not normal. No matter how much you wish and pray that they were.

Thanks for sharing though; we all have a much better appreciation of your challenges.

  22. When I was 12, the closest thing to porn that was accessible was the lingerie section of the JC Penney catalog.

  23. There once was an online loner
Who tried to find use for his boner
    He tried out the copier
    The output was sloppier
Now the boner is covered with toner

  24. I should not have joked about it. My apology Anamika. That sort of thing is very real and far more common than not.

Of course, pornography does not help prevent it. It actually encourages the problem.

  25. Had a male student at Duke, knowing her history of self-destructive behavior, taken advantage of her in the way she’s been taken advantage of on film and the way her handlers and enablers are taking advantage of her now, this would be touted as another example of the campus “rape culture.”

  26. I see what you mean…Thanks for the feedback. I’m more comfortable with free verse than strict form. ‘dirty limericks’ are always fun to play with.

  27. I will be glad when this young ladys fifteen minutes of fame are over. I pray that she will receive healing and give up the porn which is a horrible role model for women. “I like to give people the thumbs
up that bondage and rape of women is o.k.” Ugggh, And sorry, dear; some people are not going to approve of your choices. You feel judged?!!!. Awwww. It’s not like that ever happened to anyone before you for anything/sarc.

As for Anamika, I chose not to read most of her posts and to respond to her just encourages here

  28. An air-headed poster named Anama
Had a brain which was like a banana

    She slipped on the peeling
Fell in love with the feeling
Now all of us readers are reeling.

  29. Our dear online friend Dianna
Who was certainly not from Montana
    Whose habit correction
    Escaped her detection
And spent every day in a trance.

  30. There was an odd McCain in the pool
Who contrived to make folk look a fool
    Though try as he might
    And great was his flight
    He only unsharpened his tool.

  31. She’s whining about feeling judged because nobody in the history of the world has ever been judged before her. I guess any Christian who is told they are a homophobe simply because they disagree with homosexuality has nothing on the poor little porn star. Yep, I really feel for her, since the times I thought I was being judged for being Mormon, in the military, not a feminist, a tomboy, single, or any other host of things, I now realize wasn’t being judged at all. Thank you, St. Belle Knox of the Slut Hoes. /sarc Oops, did that sound judgmental? Should I denounce myself or wait for somebody else to do it?

One wonders how she’s going to handle being judged by the one being in the universe she can’t make excuses to because He knows her better than she’ll ever know herself. Especially at this rate of self contemplation.

  32. So this girl Miriam Weeks was a cutter, 5 years ago.

But no, cutting yourself has nothing to do with Porn and doing the most despicable things you can do to your body.

Her previous history of cutting has nothing to do whatsoever with the self-loathing and hatred that is part and parcel of letting your body become a piece of meat because that is all you are.

This girl hates herself. She loathes herself. That is why she allows this to happen. Down the road, when she gets married with kids and attempts to have a normal life, she will one day remember the sexual abuse she likely suffered as a little girl.

It is not normal to watch porn at 12. It is not normal to cut yourself. It is not normal to make porn and celebrate it. All this is not normal unless you were sexually abused, degraded, and made to feel as if you did not own your body, and were programmed to believe this is normal.

Somebody did something awful to Miriam Weeks. Either she knows about it and thinks it was normal, or she has not yet recovered the memories. I’m guess it is the former.
