Latter-Day Bolsheviks

Today is Vladimir Lenin’s birthday, which left-wing environmentalist freaks have celebrated as Earth Day since 1970. Nowadays, this means making a lot of noise about “climate change.”
The New Abolitionism
Averting planetary disaster will mean
forcing fossil fuel companies to give up
at least $10 trillion in wealth
— Christopher Hayes, The Nation
Great, Chris: Use global warming as a pretext to “expropriate the expropriators” and then? The dictatorship of the proletariat!
If you need further proof that environmentalism is totalitarian in its ideology and methods, look no further than the “dangerously authoritarian worldview” behind Michael Mann’s lawsuit against Mark Steyn. The Left keeps coming up with new arguments to silence their critics, and new epithets to dehumanize their opponents. But the difference between denouncing someone as a “kulak” or “Trotskyist” and denouncing them as a “homophobe” or “climate denier” is ultimately inconsequential. This is the Left’s rhetoric of hate and, supported by an angry ignorant mob, hate is the only argument they need.

Coincidence? The real irony is the Communists trash the environment.

Why am I being forced to view this article as if my 33″ screen on my desktop computer is a dinky cell phone screen? And If I select ‘Desktop’ it just ignores me and gives me mobile mode anyway. Get a new web programmer who doesn’t hate your audience.

[…] TOM: Is it a coincidence that Earth Day is the same as Vladimir Lenin’s birthday? […]

I must denounce myself as a “Fellow Traveler.” In 1970 for the first Earth Day, I planted a tree in front of my grade school. There was a photo of it (with me) on the front page of a major metropolitan daily newspaper. I was 10. I feel so ashamed.
(Although, the last time I checked, the tree is still there and doing quite well, so there’s that.)

The first step toward ideological rehabilitation is publicly confessing one’s crimes!

I see it! I didn’t realise TOM had a mobile site… There’s a new post now in the classic format—I thought it was just my device… I’m certain the site administrator is on top of it!

Uhhh, the 22nd was my birthday; I’m alive, while Comrade Lenin is stone-cold graveyard dead.

You’re OK: April 22nd was selected as Earth Day in my honor, so it is perfectly acceptable for you to have planted a tree.
With the global warming induced long, cold winter, the spring growth start has been delayed in the Poconos, but I noticed that, in my honor, the weeping cherry tree I planted in our backyard started to flower Tuesday.

EARTH FIRST! We can strip-mine the rest of the solar system later!
Also, it is the one day a religion may be taught in a public school.

Indeed. What’s fascinating, is that while denying the existence of a Supreme Creator, the Green Fascists fail to acknowledge that it is the distinctively human capacity to engage in moral thought which enables us to be concerned about the environment. Humans build sewer treatment facilities; bears shit in the woods. You cannot have it both ways. Either we exist in a purely material universe where our destiny is determined by Darwinian imperatives of survival of self and species over all, or we have a moral capacity to be good stewards of God’s creation.
It is also worth noting, the Greens’ religion necessitates an horrifically large number of human sacrifices, though the rabid Earth First-ers are rather coy about that. Further, those human sacrifices must necessarily come from all those brown people in countries with high birthrates. After those of us who reside in places with vibrant industrial economies aren’t procreating above even replacement level at the moment.

Glad to know I’m not alone in that problem, which does seem to have been FINALLY corrected….

Technically the first Earth Day was March 21, 1970. The day got co-opted and there was another a month later.
As a genuine tree hugging pagan, I prefer the equinox. But my idea of what Earth Day should be does not match the current “progressive” version.
Planting trees is A GOOD THING. And it does more to make carbon dioxide useful than any six committee meetings discussing how to save the planet.

I think Chrissy is pumped for the part where Robert E. Lee and J.E.B. Stuart show up at Harper’s Ferry.

Yes, but when I try to visit the Home page [theothermccain.com] posts from 22 April onward don’t appear in the main, left column, nor are they listed in ‘Recent Posts’.
The only way to get to these new ones – like this post – is via direct link.

Then he must be completely, thoroughly, and energetically denounced to complete the expiation of his mortal sin.

You realize you just ruined a perfectly good opportunity to denounce him and ruined my and Zohydro’s fun. Since you took away our target, I denounce you instead.
April 23rd, 2014 @ 9:06 pm
I think I’m going to go to bed and cry myself to sleep.
And that should have been, “Zohydro’s and my fun.”
April 23rd, 2014 @ 10:05 pm
I threw a bone to the grammar Nazi so you wouldn’t feel too bad about being denounced. Just another of my services – keeping your self esteem from totally crashing into the bottomless pit.

Everytime a Prog wants to talk about Mother Earth just show them two pictures of the Mall in Washington, D.C.: one after a TEA Party rally, and the other after any Prog rally. Progs center their lives in cities where the production of energy is invisible, but the expenditure of it is ignored as a right by these alleged earth-loving Progs. Most Progs think sun-brewed tea is evidence of Global Warming.

And for that, I suppose I should be grateful.

You wouldn’t want to be seen as ungrateful would you?
So, of course, you are most welcome. 🙂
