Oh, the heartache of homosexual matrimony on the rocks!
Episcopal Bishop V. Gene Robinson, now retired, nearly prompted a schism in the Anglican Communion in 2003 when the New Hampshire diocese consecrated him as their bishop, despite his open relationship with partner Mark Andrew. Robinson and Andrew were joined in civil union in 2008, then wed two years later, after New Hampshire approved same-sex marriage. On Sunday, Robinson announced that, after 25 years together, he and Andrew are getting a divorce.
This is Robinson’s second divorce — he was married to his wife from 1972 until 1986, when he came out as gay. . . . “My belief in marriage is undiminished by the reality of divorcing someone I have loved for a very long time, and will continue to love even as we separate,” Robinson wrote Sunday in The Daily Beast. “Love can endure, even if a marriage cannot.”
So, after he spent a dozen years deceiving some pathetic woman in a dishonest sham of a marriage, Bishop Robinson then spent two dozen years with his “true love,” until that went stale and became tedious. What next? Will Robinson declare that he has been living a lie, as a woman bishop trapped in a gay male bishop’s body?
Tune in for the next episode of Days of Our Gay Episcoplian Lives.
“Tune in for the next episode of Days of Our Gay Episcoplian Lives.”
That is the best statement about this farcical situation.
As I recall, didn’t he also desert two daughters to marry his manlove? Or am I thinking of a different Episcopalian bishop?
Betrayed his wife, betrayed his daughters, betrayed his church to get what he wanted. Now he betrays the man he “wanted”? Is narcissistic entitlement the hallmark of the gay life?
The Anglican Church was started over divorce–so what can one say?
Is narcissistic entitlement the hallmark of the gay life?
Well you know the answer to that question, don’t you?
It is also a hallmark of Democrats, Liberals, and Establishment Republicans.
The Rt Rev Robinson was never really a Christian.
In how many ways has the Rt Rev Robinson failed in his duties? Even if we somehow see homosexual marriage as legitimate — the Bible doesn’t, of course — the honorable bishop was under the restriction of marrying only once, and he broke that rule, too. And it’s obvious that he cannot manage his own household.
Not cannot, would not. Inability to do something is not a sin. Deliberately abandoning a solemn commitment for personal gratification…
So, after twenty-one years “together,” after just four years of “marriage,” it’s adios amigos! (Expression appropriate for Cinco de Mayo.)

Some people can’t be shamed.

Anyone joining the Episcopal Church these days is a rat swimming back to a sinking ship.
And this sucker proves it.
A church which takes the side of homosexuals over God isn’t a church. It’s a meat market with uncomfortable seating.
Mr. Robinson has developed quite a resume when it comes to attacking Christianity from the inside. First, he violates his initial marital oath before God to his wife and children by declaring that he was essentially being dishonest as he was a homosexual all along, i.e. that he partook in the Sacrament of Marriage with an impure heart. Then, using his own emotions as a guide, he abjures the Word of God with its pesky definitions of sin to lead others astray in his capacity as the (nominal only) shepherd of God’s flock. Now, we have yet the second violation of a marital oath, presumably made when he was a) being true to himself and therefore, to God as well by b) doing what he wanted to do along. So, what we know is that for Eugene Robinson, there is no Sin, no Sacrament, no God before whom he’ll one day have to account for his actions. If I were he, I’d be living my life in abject terror of what comes hereafter. Alas, I do not think, however, self-reflection and knowledge are Mr. Robinson’s strong suit.
Actually it’s First Timothy 2:2:
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; (KJV with my emphasis)
The change in the newer translations is a deliberate attempt to facilitate the perversion of the Sacrament of Marriage. Otherwise, I agree with the balance of your comment.
I meant 1 Timothy 3:2. My bad.
IIRC, the Rev Vicky is also an alcoholic…
Bishop Robinson was one of the many, many, many reasons I let the Episcopal Church abandon me after 5 decades of membership. I remember seeing an interview with him at the time of his second “marriage”–he told the audience that he was getting married in the summer “because I always wanted to be a June bride.” All I could think was “aren’t you supposed to be a man? Can’t you be one, instead of this stupid, pathetic, smarmy, sniggering, camp stereotype?” That is when the Episcopal Church formally left me, and I never looked back. I am sure the church did not, either.
With all sorts of degenerates that it lauds and ordains, it seems the Episcopal Church drew the line at ordaining James McGreevey.
http://nypost.com/2011/04/25/heaven-can-wait-3/
At least, they drew the line for now. I’m sure it won’t be long before their enlightened Episcopal mercy will let McGreevey be a shepherd, and then he can continue crying poverty in divorce court and Nancy Pelosi’s daughter can make another hagiography of him.
They only begrudgingly and reluctantly defrocked another “bishop” who claimed she was simultaneously Muslim and Episcopal.
http://www.christianpost.com/news/episcopal-priest-defrocked-after-refusing-to-recant-muslim-faith-37847/
However, if these are just the few cases that cause the Episcopal Church make a pretense of faith, you know the Church is probably rife with clerics who think and act the same.
The “Presiding Bishop” of the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori, is a butch looking female who wears rainbow and neon vestments (she claims to be married to a male person, but keep your eyes out for a later life “coming out” story). She herself has made oblique statements that belief in individual salvation is a “heresy” and that salvation may only come from organization “social justice” participation. She even hinted that the resurrection of Christ was perhaps not true or unimportant to Christian faith.
http://www.onenewsnow.com/church/2014/04/11/church-leader-delivers-confused-message-on-resurrection#.U2e-w8vjie8
But of course, Bishop Schori is quite strict and inflexible about one thing, which is fighting and attacking conservative Episcopal congregants who secede from her Church. She has launched lawsuits against every seceding diocese and won’t yield an inch. She must have every diocese united to welcome the homosexuals!
What is even more entertaining is how progressives and radicals demand that Christian denominations must modernize and adapt to the times in order to survive. What that usually means is affirming libertine sexuality and homosexuality, permitting divorce, etc. The Anglican Church and the Episcopal Church have been doing all that and more. Have these “modernizing” steps allowed them to maintain or increase their congregants? Hell no.
http://www.christianpost.com/news/episcopal-church-continues-downward-trend-according-to-report-107906/
Lots of their conservative congregants end up defecting to Evangelical churches or the Catholic Church. In England, Anglican Churches are being abandoned in droves, and in many cases, are being replaced by Mosques. Is Islam replacing and usurping the Anglican Church because it happens to be more modern and egalitarian about gender relations and homosexuality?
ALMOST caused a schism in the ECUSA? Are you f***ing kidding me? Robinson, Spong, Pike, Jefferts Schorri, have rent it asunder. There are four Anglican bodies that I can think of off the top of my head, including the one of which my parish is a member. They have lost so many faithful, humble, giving Believers that they are having to sell off their endowment, which was huge, and keeping it was the reason they did not form a Uni-Uni Church-with funny-clothes, and insisted on keeping the property which had been bought and paid for by those humble giving Believers. Now they are selling off church camps, old folks homes, the national headquarters building. The church where George Washington was Senior Warden experienced a walk out, and the national ECUSA fought tooth and toenail to keep the building, contrary to Virginia law. Our parish in Austin spread large door mats in front of the doors, so we could wipe our feet as we left. The Biblically literate will get the symbolism.
Robinson was not the first, nor even the second, straw on these camels’ backs. The schism began fifty years ago, and Robinson’s marriage is but the “outward and visible sign.” They are wicked and selfish people, and we would continue association with them at peril of our pocket books, and probably our souls.
Every week, the Rump Anglican churches see a few more of the familiar faces from our various and sundry old homes.
EBL, I know that the idea of Henry starting the Church of England is received truth in some quarters, but there were already Protestants in England, coincidentally including Anne Boleyn herself. Henry stopped persecuting them, but he continued to attend Mass, in Latin, every week. He was angry at the Pope, who was acting rather more political than pastoral, but he denied no part of RC dogma. Before the Council of Whitby, the Church of England, and the Church of Ireland existed independently of the Bishop of Rome. Henry’s son, Edward, and daughter, Elizabeth, re-established that independence.
Well! THAT’S certainly a “judgmental” little snippet! I was so offended by it that I decided to salve my wounded sensibilities by going instead to the part of the Bible where Jesus says, “Hey, man, whatever floats yer boat is cool with me! If it feels good do it!”
…Strangely, I couldn’t find that quotation. I’ll keep looking.
You gotta give ’em a break. He and his husband had a rocky marriage, but it wasn’t really their fault. They wanted to conceive a baby, but too much sh*t got in the way.
(Don’t bother. I denounce myself.)
Correction accepted.
I left The Church of England in the early70’s because of new (and unbiblical) prayerbook
Different translations have it differently; the New International Version has it as “Faithful to his wife.”
I seriously doubt that the new translations seek to somehow legitimize same-sex “marriage,” given that even the newest ones are older than that weird concept.
As for the difference between “married to one wife” and “married only once,” the first would allow the possibility of several marriages, as long as none were concurrent, while the second would not allow a bishop who was a widower to remarry.
You know what the early church leaders said about Paul, he was all about being a stoner.
Oh, that won’t stop me from denouncing you, heartily denouncing you! 🙂
So what changed? He was living with this other man for two decades before they were “married”, so presumably there was nothing new to their relationship.
I strongly denounce her.
Speaking of which, if “some people” (Anamika) can give me any examples of such situations where a man gave birth through his ‘chute’, I shall be instructed as well as entertained. Alas, this most certainly cannot be claimed for, shall we say, slightly more unpleasant practices.
First the Anglicans. Now the Episcopalians.
Although I myself am RC, it saddens me to see a great institution debase itself to appease the amoral mob…
It’s a meat market with uncomfortable seating . . .
. . . but without the rotating mirrored globe and designer martinis.
Idiot.
Maybe you could spell Episcopalian correctly in your own article? Just a thought.
Oh no! Did they decide who gets custody of the catamites?
Mostly, that and depravity.
Yep. St Francis uses the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Laying it down beside the 1979, the differences show in a glaring light. It so much reminds me of the scam they were pulling in The Last Battle, Almost Aslan, Tashlan, whatever. Without the side-by-side comparison, it sounds “about right.” Remember the Anti Christ is not the opponent of Christ. In the Greek, Anti is more like “Substitute” (Fake).
oh, boo…and golf clap…
If you find one notify the ayatollahs at once.
I ate a pound of cheese once. Passing that was as close as I intend to come to childbirth.
A few days ago, a few of my closest friends and I were discussing conversations with homosexual friends we knew. We had the opportunity at different times to ask each of them why? Without exception, the answers they gave us came back pretty much to a choice of convenience. Unable or unwilling to invest the time and effort into developing a relationship with the opposite sex, they filled their lives with easy and disposable relationships of the same sex. From the horses mouth; enough said.
I had a gay friend tell me pretty much the same thing. He said that women are too “needy” in a romantic relationship, and he didn’t have that kind of patience. He wants to have sex the moment he walks in the door.
Interesting commentary from this blog (and, apparently, a TOM reader): http://veneremurcernui.wordpress.com/2014/05/05/after-the-adulation-vicki-gene-robinson-getting-a-divorce/
One of my favorite parts, in response to the bishop’s plea for “privacy”:
“What a
crock. This man has waved his sexuality around, and his relationship
with his “beloved,” like a rainbow flag. His entire public persona, and
the media attention he so desperately craves (see the rest of the
linked post), has been centered around putting his private life way, way
out in public.”
So, who’s the ugly guy in the dress with the cat? Is that the Bishop?
It’s hard to keep track of your gay Episcopalian Bishops without a program.
Now if we can only get them to wear numbers on their vestments . . .
“This is no longer George Washington’s Episcopal Church – in 1776 the largest denomination in the rebellious British colonies. Membership has dropped so dramatically that today there are 20 times more Baptists than Episcopalians.
U.S. Catholics out-number the Episcopal Church 33-to-1. There are more Jews than Episcopalians. Twice as many Mormons as Episcopalians. Even the little African Methodist Episcopal denomination — founded in in 1787 — has passed the Episcopalians.”

Which never made sense to me in the first place. Wasn’t Henry VIII doing a fine job of making himself a widower?
And saving the crown jewels in lawyers’ fees, to boot?
If I’d beheaded my second wife the first time I thought of it, I’d be out of prison by now.
Hint: She has more testosterone than the Bishop! And probably more chin hairs.
Catherine of Aragon was the daughter of the monarchs of Aragon and Castille. He couldn’t do her in without incurring the wrath of a united Spain, so he sought the annulment. Had Anne Boleyn been better born, she might have survived.
If you must drop names, try “Betelgeuse.”
It leads to less disruption and confusion than that other name.
This Age Of Abortion And Divorce is definitely the Age Of “Can I Have A Do-Over?”
Ha Ha!
Can ya say, “Physician, heal thyself,” somebody?
Praise God!
Go on a 2 week or 10 day retreat/rehab and be cured of being a homosexual, why not!
Call it “Miracles.”
If you would rather save a tree than a baby, you might be a
liberal.
