The Convention Center here is the site of the Chris McDaniel victory party. Of course, election night events are always called a “victory party” in advance, even though you don’t know who will win the election until the votes are counted. Polls close at 7 p.m. CDT (8 Eastern) and we expect the vote to be extremely close, so it could be a long, long night. Here is some expert commentary:

Of course, I’m much better-looking in person. I’ll be updating regularly tonight as the vote totals come in. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 7:15 p.m. CDT: Polls have been closed for 15 minutes and, with 0% of precincts reporting, it’s McDaniel 0%, Cochran 0%.

UPDATE 8 p.m. CDT: Country singer Eric Welford is entertaining the crowd here. Meanwhile, with 3.4% of precincts reporting, it’s Cochran 52%, McDaniel 47%.

I’m sitting next to The Atlantic‘s Molly Ball, who’s got a nice article about the pathetic fate of Thad Cochran.

  2. Stacy-You are better looking as you age. You look handsomer than you did in that speedo photo of 30 plus years ago.

  3. “The fellow” interviewing our esteemed acclaimed host is Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association!

  4. If anyone wants to follow the returns as they come in, I’d recommend realclearpolitics.com which has the primary results on its front page.

With 24 percent of districts in, McDaniel leads Cochran 25,779 to 25,226, or 49.7% to 48.6%. Updates are coming fast as I type this.

  5. Thanks for that. Usually in these situations I go to the website of the SOS of the individual state but in this case the website of the Mississippi SOS sucks.

  6. Simultaneously encouraging and frustrating. The TEA Party is having such an incredible struggle to defeat the VichyGOP. If they can barely beat this walking corpse how long will it take to clean house and rein in lefties in government?

I want to believe we can save the Republic but everything seems to be proving me wrong.

  7. At 97 percent of the districts reporting it’s McDaniels 49.5% and Cochran 49.0%. McDaniels needs to increase his ~1500 vote lead to ~4500 to avoid a runoff, and it’d be nearly impossible for Cochran to get enough of the remaining vote to avoid a runoff.
