UPDATED: MUSLIM TERRORISTS ATTACK MAGAZINE OFFICE IN PARIS, KILL 12; AL-QAEDA IN YEMEN?

At least 12 people were reportedly killed when Islamic terrorists with AK-47 assault rifles attacked the Paris offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo today:

One of the men was captured on video shouting “Allah!” as four shots rang out. . . .
“This is a terrorist attack, there is no doubt about it,” President Francois Hollande told reporters after rushing to the scene of the attack. . . .
Sirens could be heard across Paris as Prime Minister Manuel Valls said security would be ramped up at transport hubs, religious sites, media offices and department stores. . . .
Late last year, a man shouting “Allahu Akbar” (“God is greatest”) injured 13 by ramming a vehicle into a crowd in the eastern city of Dijon. French officials say several attacks were prevented in recent weeks and Valls has said France had “never before faced such a high threat linked to terrorism.”

This is the same magazine whose offices were fire-bombed in 2011 for publishing cartoons about the Prophet Mohammad. The terrorist gunmen are reportedly still at large.

UPDATE: “We are all Charlie now.”

If only the National Rifle Association hadn’t stopped France from closing the “gun show loophole” . . .

UPDATE II: An interesting claim:

Two terrorists shouted that they were from al Qaeda in the Yemen before they launched the brutal attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris.
Cédric Le Béchec, a 33-year-old estate agent who witnessed the attack on the satirical magazine, said the men told bystanders to inform the media that they were from the terror group.
He said that the men arrived in a black car, stopping in the middle of the street. One of them was carrying a rocket-propelled grenade. They were dressed in black military-style clothing.
Mr Le Béchec said that before launching the assault, the attackers approached another man in the street saying, “Tell the media that this is al-Qaeda in the Yemen.”

It is never wise to jump to conclusions based on early reports in a breaking news situation like this. But if this report is accurate, why do Yemeni Muslims hate French journalists?

That is to say, of all the places in the world where these terrorists could have struck, why Paris? Was this simply a target of convenience, some place nearby where these Muslims lived? I have no idea what the French policy is vis-a-vis Yemen, but this attack would seem to invite the question of whether Islamic terrorists give a damn about any nation’s policy. Muslims want to kill us all and destroy our civilization, and we should never make the mistake of thinking that our government policy is to blame for Islam’s murderous hostility toward us.

UPDATE III: OFFICIALS IDENTIFY THREE ISLAMIC TERRORISTS IN FRENCH ATTACK

  1. Despite the ”lone wolf” attacks here and in Canada, it’s Europe that could be in for a really horrendous next couple of years.

  2. And yet, the MSM here has embargoed the speech by Egyptian President al-Sisi regarding extremist ideology in Islam and calling for a “revolution” of moderation and reform. Our media’s unwillingness to connect the dots, coupled with the current administration’s fecklessness toward Islamic extremism boggles the mind.

  3. That was a remarkably perspicacious speech for all the good it will do. It took courage to make that speech, but I suspect it’s far too little far too late.

  4. They willingly imported Muslims, or at least their leadership did. Whatever misgivings the citizens had were set aside. Now they are seeing that they were right to be worried.
Islam is like hard leftism: as soon as it becomes a majority, it turns on you.
I hope there’s a huge, continent-wide backlash because that’s the only hope Europe has.

  5. Those would be the RINOs.
I’m not sure if it’s cowardice or ignorance that drives this impulse, but I don’t care.

  6. I don’t disagree with you. Nevertheless, I am somewhat conflicted. My city opened its doors to Bosnian Muslim refugees after the war there. We have a huge community of survivors from the Srebrenica Massacre. They’ve added much to the community and have assimilated well. No doubt, the reason for that is their more westernized life before the war.

  7. I think the problem concerns the origins of Muslim immigrants. The Bosnians are different than the Somalis who plague Sweden, for example, or the North Africans who inhabit France. Recently, there has been a huge influx of refugees from Syria and Iraq fleeing the Civil War in Syria and ISIL in Iraq to Germany. The mix is about half Muslim and half Christian/Yazidis. The Germans object to the former half more than the later. Plus, Germany has a large Turkish Muslim immigrant community which is well-assimilated. See, e.g. Mesut Özil.

The socialist leadership in most European countries, however, imported these people hoping to beef up their sagging populations in order to pay for their social programs. Instead of going to work, earning money and paying into the public till, they sat and collected generous government benefits and now seek to overthrow their benefactors. Sweden is gone as a nation, for example. They’re dead, but to0 stupid to lie down.

  8. I don’t think the Turks in Germany are well assimilated. That was the point of Merkel’s speech proclaiming multiculturalism a complete failure.

  9. Social justice warriors are in complete denial. Every week some new moron is murdering people while SJWs wait for Tea Party militias to strike.

Meanwhile today a moron of a Muslim fantasy writer and Muslim apologist who is always bleating about whites Tweeted “More white supremacist bullshit.”

You know what he was talking about? Scarlett Johansson being cast in the lead for the adaptation of the Japanese anime Ghost in the Shell. But Muslim terrorism? Well, don’t profile a country with that. Concentrate on the American Nazi Party casting films.

  10. Better than you would think. By “assimilation,” I mean contributing to the community and not merely living off of government largess. The Turks came specifically to work, given the shortage of manpower after WWII. Most of them would return to Turkey after a period in Germany, but they caused little problem while there.

In recent years, the younger generations have lost their connection with Anatolia and are more German than Turk. There has been more intermarriage. It’s a completely different situation than France or The Netherlands. Is it the equivalent to, say, the Irish in Boston, or the Poles in Chicago? No. Is it better than most of Europe? Yes.

I didn’t read Merkel’s speech as directed at the Turks, per se, but more at the recent attempted influx of so-called refugees who offer nothing to their host countries.

Disclosure: My spouse is German and my kids are dual citizens.

  11. Try both ignorance and cowardice as admiting the truth about Islam would require them actually doing something about Islam.

  12. The true test of their assimilation will be when the younger generation is exposed to Islamist propaganda. Whether they are susceptible to radical messages or not will tell the tale. The Somalis from Minneapolis running off to fight Jihad aren’t men in their 40s whether new immigrants or immigrants from 20 years ago.

  13. I don’t disagree necessarily, but I would note, that younger generation is far removed already from the 1995 events which brought them here. They all have been born here. They attend local high schools and colleges. My kids have played against them in local soccer leagues. They wear local baseball kit. They have their mosques, but we’ve yet to see the unrest or alienation which one would expect of a second, and now, even third generation.

My simple, speculative explanation? They’ve been successful and have made a life with the help of the locals, especially the local Christian community. Why would they want to screw that up? While I don’t buy the trope that terrorism is the result of Western, imperialist colonialism, a la Edward Said, there’s something to be said for economic success. It’s hard to wage jihad and run a successful business which caters to all and sundry at the same time.

Admittedly, my opinions are based upon anecdotes and local observations. Nonetheless, such anecdotes and observations do constitute data points.

  14. It’s been awhile since Merkel’s speech but as I recall it didn’t dwell on who, from where and when of immigrants or immigration in general but on the failure of it’s underlying premise multiculturalism. When a Euro-politician of Merkel’s stature is willing to say that I have to assume it’s much worse than she’s willing to admit to herself let alone us.

  15. I can see the Tweets of the apologists now …

My thoughts are with French Islamists who Raided the Offices of Charlie Hebdo, I hope they didn’t get burned by their hot weapons.

  16. Your description of that second generation sounds remarkably similar to the Tsarneav brothers. Note I am not implying that any Bosnian Muslims are about to blowup a marathon. However, the superficial trappings of Americana are no guarantee of a lack of alienation. In most cases the alienation of young Muslims reveals itself when they go over there not in their communities here. The questions that need to be asked are who is preaching and teaching in the Mosques they attend? Who financed these Mosques? If Saudi money is involved they are teaching Wahhabism and are therefore a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States.

  17. When I lived in Germany in the late 60s, and returned to visit in the early 70s, the Turks who were guest workers behaved themselves quite well. There appears to be an undercurrent of crime committed by the current crop of muslim imports that would not have been tolerated by the earlier guest workers. Thus, the reason for the recent marches we seen reported in Germany.

  18. I never hear the left explain why they have Muslim violence in left-wing countries like France, Sweden, etc. If the cause of Muslim anger in America is all of our redneck righties, then why aren’t Muslims happy in a left-wing paradise?

  19. I don’t care who’s funding the mosque; if they’re preaching from the Koran and hadiths, they’re preaching hatred and violence,

  20. I have no idea about that particular role, but a surprisingly large number of anime women are blondes with blue eyes. Given the distribution of those traits in the Japanese population vs. European populations, the casting may not be against the character.

And I’ll note that none of these wankers complained about Doogie Howser being cast as Juan Rico, a character specifically called out as Filipino… I suspect it’s because they like the mangling the hack Verhoeven did on Starship Troopers.

  21. ISTR the was a survey of Republican pols a while ago where they admitted they liked Hispanics because Hispanics were loyal to patronage systems. I suspect their admiration for Muslims has a similar source.

Nothing ticks off a politician more than someone who sees them as equals.

  22. While I agree I would make this distinction. The correlation between Saudi funded Mosques and terrorism in general and terrorist acts in this country in particular is provable. In short while your statement is generally correct, the Saudi connection is provably correct. This would be generally accepted in any society that didn’t insist on lying to itself due to Political Correctness Poisoning. There is and has been enough evidence since shortly after 9/11, for the President to issue a finding that Saudi funded Mosques are a threat to our national security. I would compare this to the difference between people of German ancestry and members of the German Bund groups during WW2.

  23. Part of the circular nature of this conversation is the meaning of the terms assimilation and multiculturalism. Assimilation is the almost perfect opposite of multiculturalism. Full and successful assimilation can only happen in the absence of multiculturalism. Well behaved but largely separate ethnic or cultural minorities is not assimilation but rather multiculturalism. If continued over several generations this would be evidence of successful multiculturalism. This limited success is almost never sustained over decades and I can’t recall any successes lasting multiple centuries since the rise of Islam.

  24. Islam is a cult built around the edicts of a totalitarian lunatic, cemented by centuries of violence into a network of oppressive delusions that serve primarily to justify enslaving more people. It is not a religion: it is the legal code for a state implacably hostile towards the founding principles of the United States.

So, again, I don’t care who funds it. It is incompatible with a free people, and until we act on that reality, we will continue to suffer more bloodshed and horror.

  25. is it possible that everything is a just a front? Sure. I’m not prepared to sell an entire community down the river absent evidence of ill intent. I would note also, the Tsarneav brothers were more on the public dole than our community here. Further, they came from an area (Dagestan) which has a history of anti-Western animus going back to the Czars.

  26. Everything doesn’t have to be a front for there to be a threat. I’m perfectly willing to entertain the theoretical possibility that the Bosnian’s do not now or ever will represent a threat. I just don’t consider the superficial similarities to other groups as determinative. All of the differences you describe between the Tsarneav brothers the second generation Bosnians where largely below the surface. Even those who knew better ignored those distinctions.

  27. I believe we’ve rarely had an enemy who has been given the licence to operate against us so freely, so blatantly and unreservedly…without consequence.

  28. Well then there’s the rub. Look at the 750 no go zones in.Europe, they’re not assimilating. They want sharia law and their own government and woe to any Christian who wanders into.their territory.

  29. I’m not sure I understand your reply. I certainly know of “no go” zones in many countries in Europe, Sweden being the example that immediately comes to mind, though there are others. Bruce Bawer has written extensively about it. My community has no such thing. In point of fact, it’s exactly the opposite.

  30. A perfect example of the failure to assimilate and the failure multiculturalism which obviously confirms the failure of their immigration policies. Yet another example of a perfect triangle of suck.

  31. 30 is at the extreme end of the spectrum to play that role, but from what I can tell, she’s still in good enough form to sell it. Sequels, however, might be problematic, and that franchise WILL demand sequels. It could be the next big thing. So I’m surprised they don’t go with someone who could ride through the amount of time it takes to get to the third film.

Got any favorite links to coverage of that production?

  32. I think a “no-go” zone ought to be taken to its logical conclusion.

No trucks allowed in. No carrying packages in by foot, or any other conveyance. No cash allowed in.

No go. It’s what they want, give it to them good and hard.

  33. In Germany they are finally realizing how badly they have screwed themselves. The numbers of people in the streets against the islamization of Germany is getting rather noticeable.

Too late to avoid war, is my guess. But Germans may end up being the ones who manage to turn the tide. History loves some irony.
