“I don’t want a baby. . . . Nothing will make me want a baby. . . .
“This is why, if my birth control fails, I am totally having an abortion.”
— Amanda Marcotte, January 2014
“No woman should be authorized to stay at home to raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one.”
— Simone de Beauvoir, 1975
“We identify the agents of our oppression as men. . . . All men have oppressed women.”
— Redstockings, 1969
Okay, so the implication is that there’s something wrong with being married to a rich, powerful man? And there’s also something wrong with “intensive mothering,” which apparently means being intensively involved in your child’s upbringing? . . .
[I]f this is slavery — being married to a rich/powerful husband, being able to stay at home with one’s children, and having time to get involved with charitable causes — I think a lot of women would willingly sign up.
Only a hardcore feminist would think such a life is odd enough to pen an anthropological essay about it in the New York Times.
Ah, Professor, but in the elite media, “only a hardcore feminist” is ever allowed to write anything about women’s lives.
The goal of the Feminist-Industrial Complex is to indoctrinate all college students in feminism’s anti-male/anti-heterosexual ideology, and this New York Times article is about trying to figure out how these women managed to resist. Too many Disney movies, maybe?
“The radical feminist argument is that men have forced women into heterosexuality in order to exploit them . . .”
— Celia Kitzinger, The Social Construction of Lesbianism (1987)
Heterosexuality is oppression. Motherhood is slavery.
‘Could It Be Any More Obvious?’
Even funnier is imagining they could ever create the industrial base to create them… or a safety pin. Arrogance thy name is feminist.
I guess it would work in the reverse of race horses. The nags breed themselves out of existence by not breeding.
Quite.
Some of the feminists claim to like the “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” series in which the active heroine is a depraved, androgynous delinquent.
The author of that dreck was a portly, leftist, mangina journalist. And the main character of the series was…a portly, leftist, mangina journalist.
Yet in the book, women seem to find this pansy to be irresistible, even after they have to save him (usually from fanciful, cartoonish Nazi alpha male villains).
A link to the cover art? Not really…I wouldn’t want to subject the readers of TOM to that dreck.
The setting was Alpine, Tx, a settlement of about 9,000 people all alone in the west Texas desert.
I’ve spent time in Alpine. It’s a nice town with a state university in the Davis Mountains just north of Big Bend National Park. Undoubtedly, she thinks she was too good for the place, and she’s spent her life trying to run from it. That’s the problem. Over the years, I’ve known a number of people who’ve tried to forget where they’re from. They’re never happy. Trying to maintain a facade of sophistication and ignoring one’s roots when one grew up in modest means is very stressful.
For the Leftist, a person has value not as an individual created in the image of God but as a cog in the great social machine, the purpose of which is to provide cushy lives for the Leftist elite. Therefore, your ex-girlfriend is worthy of opprobrium because she contributes nothing to society as a whole and her efforts are focused solely upon a “being” who is/will be also a drain on society.
RED ALERT to anyone that considers themselves pro-life in or near Pennsylvania: the Democratic governor has nominated for secretary of the commonwealth Pedro Cortez, who is the exact same guy that allowed Kermit Gosnell’s horrible acts to happen in the first place.
This article at The Federalist has the details. (Hat tip to Moe Lane.)
I know that you know that Leftists have no tolerance for human decency; that’s how I know you’re speaking rhetorically.
Your ex-gf and husband should be held up as examples to society, but we know that’s not gonna happen. Unless, of course, they pass them off as bad examples.
You don’t say what the child’s mental illness is, but I’ve worked with educable mentally retarded elementary-age children, and found them to be sweet and loving for the most part. They enjoyed the personal time I spent working with them and made that known. Seems to me that showing love and appreciation for others, and modeling reliance for those who think they are captain of their own ship instead of God, is plenty of contribution to a morally degenerate society.
That reminds me of a review of a different movie; it took some searching, but I found it. They gave it a D, and their vicious evisceration was memorable.
False consciousness.
All totalitarian ideologies insist upon absolute control over every aspect of life. There were no hiking clubs in Hitler’s Germany, only National Socialist Hiking Clubs.
Since fraternities and sororities are outside the control of the statists, they must be abolished. Afterwards, new entities can be established that are inside the tent. You don’t need to look very far into these ideologies to find it. Every one, at some point, stresses the need to reorganize society top to bottom, leaving nothing outside the movement.
As Mussolini said “Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.”
Dismantling the family is more important to him. All institutions that serve as counterweights to the heft of the almighty state must be destroyed.
Another female brainwashed by the patriarchy!!!! It’s okay the Feminist will feel extra, extra, extra oppressed in your honor.
😛
I honestly don’t know but lesbians seem to crave the manly side of things when it comes to media representation. They wish for a history of the world where more women did things only men really do.
I admire many women with rich husbands. They are often the hardest working, charity-event-organizing, volunteering, scholarship funding, caretakers of people at all levels in their husbands’ organizations. Noblesse oblige, or something.

I don’t believe that his mental condition was readily apparent at birth.
I do not know precisely how his mental condition is defined, but from what little I do know, he will never be an adult mentally. He looks perfectly normal, so it isn’t Downs.
Joan Crawford could not be reached for comment.
I think you’ve read a bit more into it than it merits. Whatever I happen to think of Miss Marcotte’s writing, it’s clear that a lot of other people like it, enough so that she has been able to develop a sufficient following to go from unpaid, spare time blogger, to a woman being paid to write, profitably enough that she and her POSSLQ have been able to afford to move from Austin to Brooklyn. That’s not an accomplishment I would blithely dismiss, and has certainly been something I have failed to achieve!
And her attitude toward children, which I regard as extremely selfish, is one shared by not a small number of Western women; she is simply much more brutally honest about it, and I appreciate honesty.
As for her writing style, it is founded on righteous indignation and her methodology is mockery; I would suggest that our esteemed host uses much the same method, though he does at least research his subjects much more thoroughly. (Mr McCain seems to spend so much time reading feminist writings that it seems highly improbable that he’d ever have the time to force his long-suffering bride to bear a seventh child!)
From my reading of Miss Marcotte’s writing, she is reasonably happy about her choice to remain childless. Whether that will remain the case in twenty years, only the Lord — whose existence she denies — knows.
“False consciousness” is new speak
Oh they feel very repressed they spend their time searching for and reading my Disqus posts and reposting them on twitter, hoping to incite someone against me.So far though it’s been a rather epic failure, except perhaps revealing just how insanely obsessed the twitter trolls are with me.
Not to mention the so called massive coat hanger abortions is an admitted lie http://www.nationalreview.com/article/373961/symbol-lie-kevin-d-williamson
Cut, jib, newsletter.
What it is, is a smug dismissal of another’s personal experience and opinion.
Well, to be fair Jeanette, everybody’s obsessed with you. Most of us manage to maintain some proportion though.
Hence the argument, put forth by Peter Singer, for a waiting period after birth during which a mother may select abortion retroactively.
There’s no other word to describe these people than evil. That must be why they so strive to deny it exists.
My first thought was “the majority of that fake blood would have come from the fetus… so what exactly are we supposed to be shocked about?”
Sloppy messaging. No logical consideration of what they’re displaying.
My house is in rural America, a county in Western Washington with only one incorporated town. It’s the sort of place young kids can’t wait to get out of when they graduate, and then when they retire move back to because they decide it was really pretty decent after all.
Dunno about the righteous indignation part – everything I have read of hers reeks of sheer hatred.
dude, did you chew off your own balls or did a girl do that to you?
[…] Stacy McCain on what Feminism teaches […]
No most folks don’t care, a few are interested in what I post and even less are obsessed with me.
I can do that, didn’t you get the memo it’s because I am woman!
LOL
Her man-pet is an IT tech. Wagers he’s making most of the rent.
The implosion of magazine journalism has removed one source of opportunity for people to make a living as writers. Not sure what the deal is among those producing advertising copy.
From my reading of Miss Marcotte’s writing, she is reasonably happy
She may be ‘reasonably happy’. Such is not reflected in her writing, which is bilious.
I think you’ve read a bit more into it than it merits.
I’m not reading much into it. Anyone of a certain age without children has to ask themselves if they are doing more than taking up space. Sometimes the answer to that question hurts.
Holy Cow, Evi…
[…] Hating Babies, Hating Mothers […]
So, what’s the “waiting period?” Might my ex-girlfriend’s son have gone undiagnosed until after that period?
However, there’s an obvious point: if at some point after birth, a woman decides that she doesn’t want the child, she already has the option of giving him up for adoption! Why does the esteemed Dr Singer want to add the option of killing the baby?
I shall be in the Palouse (Pullman/Moscow, ID) in a few weeks. I will find a suitable rest stop and genuflect in your honor.
I have to agree with Art Deco on this one. I’ve read quite a bit of her writing going back many years. In fact, I got banned from commenting at her site for merely stating that while her conclusion about something was correct, her reasoning was faulty. The vast majority of her work is nothing but unsubstantiated assertions slathered in vitriol. Her “happiness” seems to be exclusively of the schadenfreude variety.
Obviously, I cannot say whether her emotional state differs from what’s portrayed in her work, but I find it difficult to believe that it’s a show. I’ve known too many people over the years who seem to thrive on finding the cloud in every silver lining, to think she’s just acting in order to get blog hits.
It’s hard to say why people do the things they do. I think it’s enough that they just do good things.
I think she’s a malcontent social climber.
I spent many years in Pullman at WSU. I always imagined that I could retire there.
It’s just a necessary evil. I’m surprised when conservatives who bitterly complain about welfare are against abortion since most women in need of an abortion are on welfare and will
only need more of it. Try rationalizing it as saving taxpayer money. It will be easier that way.
it’s attached to her body, and feeding off it, and even after six or seven months stands very little chance of surviving without her. That’s why it’s her choice since the sacrifice is all hers.
Ever think the responsible thing to do sometimes is have an abortion? Responsibility isn’t necessarily synonomous with brutal struggle to survive especially when that can be avoided. People ou have so many resources either financially, energetically, socially, etc, and if you don’t have the resources for child rearing that should be the deciding factor.
