Who Is ‘Silencing’ Whom?

This is the dynamic at the heart of online harassment more generally, which, feminists have previously noted, is largely an attempt to silence women. Gamergate — a movement, ostensibly started to improve ethics in video game journalism, that morphed into a campaign of horrifying, misogynistic comments and threats directed at female gamers and critics — is one infamous example. This harassment, Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti wrote in October, is “the last, desperate gasp of misogynists facing an unwelcoming future” and is essentially the way “straight white men deal with a world that no longer revolves exclusively around them.”

Read the whole thing, which involves a story about a college feminist who was murdered. Police haven’t said anything about the motive for the murder of Grace Mann and, although there has been a great deal of speculation. it is not yet possible to know whether her murder was a consequence of her campus activism.

There is, however, another problem involved here. Neither Julie Zeilinger nor Jessica Valenti nor any other feminist will address the totalitarian climate fostered by feminism’s uncontested hegemony in academia. It is predictable that “straight white men” (why only white men, Jessica?) on university campuses don’t enjoy being constantly accused of misogyny simply because they are “straight white men.”

Exactly what are these young students, scapegoated for the crime of being male, supposed to do in reaction to such propaganda? Who will speak on their behalf? How is any student (regardless of whether they are male or female, whatever their ethnic identity or sexual orientation) supposed to obtain access to any articulate, factual and rational opposition to the anti-male/anti-heterosexual ideology taught in university Women’s Studies programs? Is there any faculty member who would risk disputing feminist gender theory — the “social construction” of the gender binary within the heterosexual matrix — after Larry Summers was purged at Harvard University merely for suggesting that there may be “innate differences” between men and women”?

Nobody on campus is allowed to criticize feminist theory nor to mention the hideous hatefulness of feminist rhetoric. Our universities are teaching feminists that they can lie with impunity, defame innocent people without consequence, and claim victimhood (“harassment!”) if anyone objects to their lies and insults. Every time Christina Hoff Sommers sets foot on a university campus, she is deliberately smeared, accused of being a “rape denialist,” and no one in authority — not a single administrator at any university — will dare say a word against the deranged fanaticism of the feminists who engage in these brownshirt tactics. As I explain on page 54 of Sex Trouble:

“Unless we are willing to oppose feminism now, we may find ourselves eventually living in a totalitarian society where such opposition is prohibited by law.”

And “eventually” could arrive much sooner than most people imagine.

  10. Most hardcore leftist concepts are very flimsy. You start poking at them, and they have an entertaining tendency to collapse.

    I’ve often said that if your idea is good, it’ll withstand scrutiny. Much like if you have a physical object, it’ll withstand tensile strength better if it’s made from forged steel rather than if it’s made from chocolate.

    But because these people are so desperately invested in their ideals, they don’t want them to be prodded and poked. So they wildly flail away at any curious fingers, and lash out even amongst themselves when one of their number makes the mistake of some critical thinking.

  27. There’s a girl who occasionally makes ludicrously silly comments over on The Federalist website, which I read and comment on almost daily. Whenever I reply to her latest bit of drivel, she says I’m obsessed and stalking her. I have tried, multiple times, to point out that I’m at that website all the time, and that is the connecting factor, not her, but feminists are immune to logic.

  29. LOL I was the freak that took every stat class there was as an undergrad. I was the only undergrad in all but my first stat class. Heck it was the only homework I coud do watching TV. I even got IBM trying to recruit me as an undergrad, But I just couldn’t move to the other coast so I turned it down

    3. As a general rule, I do not watch online video. It is simply not a time-efficient way to access information, because I can always READ faster than anyone can TALK. I believe other fluent readers are the same way. Therefore, when presenting material via video, you will always get a better reaction if you accompany it with a transcript, or with a summary that QUOTES the key parts of the discussion and provides time cues (e.g., 4:28) where the quoted material can be found.

    Now you will be compelled to ask a stupid question – why a female-only boggy – well, the answer is if Delhi men knew how to keep their hands to themselves and glance at their own bodies rather than down a woman’s top, I would have allowed them in all coaches. But sorry, I won’t allow dirty men to get inside and touch women in wrong manner.
    Those men entered a female coach and were handed over to the authorities since I raised an alarm.

    On the other occasion, I nearly smacked a guy for not giving up a females-only seat in the other metro coach. Now, the question is why do we need females only seats in general coach, the reason is that pervy men can be present there too.

    I will put it in the words of your famous BUT with a patriarchy ridden thought process, American astronaut, Neil Armstrong –

    A small step for WOMAN, A giant leap for WOMANkind.

    Despite the fact, that all Delhi subway trains have an entire coach exclusively reserved for women passengers along with many female-only seats in other general coaches too, men on several occasions have offered their seat to me which I so gladly accepted after a polite refusal the first time.

    Now, if they are still dumb to offer that kind of chivalry to a modern feminist woman like me, they are the ones to be entirely blamed. I wouldnt’ be dumb enough to refuse, would I?

    Actually, that chivalry is nothing but their primal desires that get ignited at the very sight of a hot single girl in a coach (which I am) and thus, they are willing to go to any lengths to satisfy them.

    A gentleman doesn’t allow a lady to pay on the first date or holds door open for a woman are just mere extensions of that lustful urge that he seeks to satiate all the time.
