Hopefully the flood of racist/white nationalist/Nazi idiots is becoming a trickle now that I’ve blacklisted about two dozen of the scum, but I’m shutting down comments after a couple of days wherever they’ve been pooping -just to be on the safe side and incidentally to frustrate any late-arriving subliterate fools. While I am dishing out the thanks, I note that I am inexcusably tardy in thanking all of you who buy books, music, movies, auto parts, cat litter, etc. through the Amazon links on my post. Every time you buy something through those links, I get a taste, and (among other things) that helps keep my Kindle filled with stuff I can review for your amusement. It doesn’t really matter what the link is for; if you’re not looking for new shoes, watches, or intimate apparel, you can just go to what you do want once you get to Amazon, and I still get a piece of the action.

If you limit your analysis to before-and-after assessments of industries which compete with foreign manufacturers (e.g. textiles), sure you’ll find that. Of course, you neglect the welfare benefits of production available to consumers and from the redeployment of factors of production to other industries. Yes it is, because American co-operation with Israel consists of intelligence sharing, of some transfers for arms purchases, and, other than that, ordinary diplomatic and trade relations of a type we have with countries all over the world. The contextual significance of those transfers has declined monotonically for 30 years and could be withdrawn tomorrow and cause aught but an ordinary business recession in Israel the effects of which could be worked out over a business cycle. We had perfectly wretched relations with swaths of the Arab world prior to 1973 even though American aid to Israel was inconsequential at that time, so the notion that security assistance to Israel is driving antagonism to the United States in the Near East is an unsustainable idea. People complain about American dealings with Israel out of pig ignorance or out of a loathing of the Jewish state. Nothing more, nothing less.
