by Smitty
Ol’ EE is taking some Twitter heat for the following act =>
I Have Disinvited Donald Trump to the RedState Gathering.
This blog is in staunch support of Erick on the point. The Presidential election is what amounts to the world’s most painful job interview. For a Chief Executive. Name another Chief Executive whom you’d expect to hear making even oblique menstrual remarks in any context. That CEO would be gonzo in a New York second, and the firm’s stock would be thrashed as every Social Justice Warrior in the Racism Industrial Complex arsenal arrived in a simultaneous time-on-top strike.
(And are the SJW knives coming out for The Donald? That should tell you something about the farce underway.)
One can defend Trump’s anti-Political Correctness stance. Political Correctness is just a variation on the theme of authoritarianism. And American irreverence is something this blog holds very, very dear. Irreverence is the spice of liberty.
But that’s not the same thing as boorishness. Hating aristocracy and the decadence it implies is not barbarism. Just because we’re not kissing Her Majesty’s ring doesn’t mean we’re embracing the sort of crudeness that doesn’t pass muster in church. That irreverence is like spice in the food: a little dab’ll do ya. And it’s hard to remove. So, less is more.
Trump seems the same sort of triumph of style over substance that Barack Obama himself has proven to be. Where are Trump’s substantive policy ideas? The Donald sure appears to be a provocateur, operating in GOP territory and saying outlandish things so that the Democrat base can say: “See? Look what those conservatives tolerate.”
No. Donald: it’s not too late to grow up. You’ve been an affluent, spoiled, vaguely teenage lout for many decades. We need a President, not Sideshow Donald.
Thanks to Erick Erickson for being the Adult in the Room.
Update: Darleen (and co-blogger Jeff on Twitter), are most decidedly NOT in agreement with me on this. I see their point, but stand by Erick on this. Babysitting Trump is not my idea of a good time. Red State is certainly not the GOP. To say that Red State’s actions are those of the GOP is to conflate them, in my opinion.
I’m a libertarian. I piss on everyone. Stacy let’s me squat here on occasion because of my winning personality (and I bring the booze).
I sincerely doubt the D.T.s is schilling for a ”higher cause” than himself.
I don’t want congress to do nothing. My idea of them doing something is undoing things. That involves decades of work.
That’s a good point. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that he might win the nomination. But I would rather suffer Trump than Bush.
As to the point of Smitty’s original post – I don’t think Erickson was remiss in uninviting Trump, but we must remember it was Erickson that gave Trump the keynote spot in the first place….
The “adult in the room” wouldn’t have invited Trump in the first place. The fact that Red State is not the GOP simply renders the argument that “Trump is the leading GOP candidate” even more absurd.
Well, well:
“Believe me there’s a big difference between Mike Wallace and Chris Wallace. Because I watched him last night and, you know, blood pouring out of his eyes, too.”
I trust Smitty is a big enough man to offer an apology? Him and the rest of the braying animals out on the Internet that decided to cast common sense to the wind while braying for…blood:
http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/08/call-off-the-grievance-mob-trump-said-chris-wallace-had-blood-pouring-out-of-his-eyes-too-video/
BTW: some of us–on this very thread, in fact–stated that it seemed a bit strange that Trump would reference PMS with a crack about blood pouring from the eyes.
If only the pure and stainless can criticize others, then Trump (and the vast majority of us) need to shut up. You don’t like what Erickson said? Fine. You’re not his audience anyway, especially if you go around quoting Media Matters as if they were any kind of objective source.
And on that basis alone, ignoring his record as governor of Wisconsin, you’re kicking him to the curb? You’re as bad as Richard Sharpe, who was notorious for finding pots of gold and then throwing them away because they were the wrong shape.
Spoken like a true Sturmtrumper. You don’t even know what the business model here or at RedState is, but you’re sure the Donald is a threat to it. Riiiiight.
Marco Rubio didn’t laugh and didn’t ask for a donation, because Trump supported Crist when Rubio was running for Senate. I don’t believe Trump has donated to Cruz, either.
No one said Snow White there sparky. Anyone a little less hypocritical on the particular excuse he gave for dumping Trump would do. As to the source, most were screen shots of comments Erickson made himself.
I said “most” Wombat. Is there something else with my statement you object to? Say perhaps the part about our politicians being bought and paid for? Because I think that’s the real issue here. Our politicians being bought and paid for. And the fact that Trump came out and told the American public about easy it was and how NOT a single one of them denied it.
Has it occurred to anyone that perhaps that is the real reason nobody wanted Trump at the RedState event? I mean, we can’t have him spilling more shit about these business donors now can we?
Kinda like high school, ain’t it? Comparing candidates on the issues would be too much to ask. Expecting fair and balanced from Fox News certainly is. Was hoping that alternative news would maybe present, I don’t know, an alternative to the store bought media.
So in fact not about Kelly being a woman. Or even Kelly as a person. It was about the FOX moderators.
Well…this is awkward. I wonder if Erickson will apologize. I wonder if anyone will.
PS: I make it habit to never believe anything Erickson says.
I would say that habit kept you in good stead during this mess–if only others had been so circumspect.
(And yeah, I think the likelihood that *anyone* will apologize is right around nil.)
Trump is the guy who kills his parents and then demands sympathy because he’s an orphan.
If he can’t handle Megyn Kelly, he has absolutely no business even being there. What a wimp.
Funny…I’m an old sailor too. In my circles we’d have called that debate a shitshow. And not because of Trump.
He’s a petty, thin-skinned, arrogant, oafish, ill-mannered, bullying narcissist JUST LIKE OBAMA. With Trump, just as with Obama, it’s ALL me me me me me ALL the time. He knows nothing and doesn’t care to. This is the same freak show he played with Rosie O’Donnell only now he’s playing it on a very serious stage that he will never be ready for because his thought process ends with his loud, obnoxious, bullying mouth.
And that’s exactly why he’s doing it. As long as HE remains the main topic, he’s happy. His supposed anger is just an act to stir controversy to keep the free advertising going and suck up the attention. He’s a diva, just like his Miss USA queens. It’s no wonder he started that – attention through association with beautiful women to garner admiration from other men and make people think he’s got a big pair.
I don’t think he’s really the leading candidate. The polls being conducted now are what are known as “herd” polls. It relates to demographic criteria of the pool of people polled. These so-called pollsters skew the sample (people polled) through a screening that narrows the pool to those who fit an employment, income, race, age, educational level to the socio-economic demographic they want to poll in order to get the results they want to publish. PPP (Democrat pollster Nate Silver’s group) is the worst, and they show the highest numbers for Trump last time I checked. If you want the particulars on this methodology, I’d be happy to provide links. It’s an important thing to understand.
I’m sorry, explain exactly what part of his statement was a “moronic rambling”. And be precise. Unless you were just insulting someone for the crime of disagreeing with you.
He’s not going to win. He’s going to run 3rd party. He’s already setting up that scenario by stating he will no longer appear on Fox News.
They’re not all cookie-cutter candidates.
I don’t want Trump’s undignified, boorish, petty, loud-mouthed carcass representing us abroad. Obama is/was enough. Trump might be even worse when it comes to etiquette and demeanor.
None of the moderators were tough enough on any of the candidates.
Trump brags about what a big shot he is, but can’t handle some very fair questions relating to matters he has already discussed publicly.
Megyn Kelly isn’t running for office. Wendy Davis was. If Davis makes abortion her signature issue, she opens herself up to whatever comes her way, just like pro-life candidates have to face all the time.
Comparing remarks about a candidate to remarks about a journalist is apples and oranges. It’s totally fallacious.
He doesn’t have to. Res ipsa loquitur
More important is the fact that Kelly isn’t a candidate for anything. Davis was.
There are very few attractive dumbocrat women. Let’s start with a look at Rose de Lauro. 🙂
You’re wrong. It doesn’t speak for itself. He made an assertion. He should have to prove it. I’m not going to simply take his word for it. That’s foolishness. And your spouting Latin doesn’t make it true.
Besides, he can’t prove it. It’s already been established that Trump made the exact same comment about Wallace. So this whole thing is nothing but media bullshit.
So I guess in one sense he’s right. The situations are not equal. What Erickson said was worse.
Not in this political climate when journalists have become opinion makers and have the power to ruin people and careers. Especially when some of those journalists are as corrupt as politicians and in many cases are colluding with them. It is not only fair, it is appropriate.
And I should know, I work with and for some of them. In fact I’m heading to an event on ethics in journalism next week. If you can fucking believe there is such a thing.
Well, I for one would appreciate a representative who is less obsequious.
Sure, I’ve been lead to believe that there are events in Tiajana that involve sucking donkey dick. I have no reason to doubt the existence of an event on ethics in journalism.
Trump gave a flippant answer to an obviously dishonest and loaded question, then tweeted later on that the specific people who ask these questions at debates probably aren’t worth taking seriously. HOW DARE YOU GOOD SIR!!!
And you’re defending EE…why? He deserves no defense, no supporters, no finance, no money, and no goodwill. He’s loudly white-knighting for the Establishment using all of the influence he has (left), and proven himself a….
(Ctrl -F ‘uckserv’…no matches found…)
…willing member of the fake opposition party.
ALMOST as much? How about more, given how Erickson previously crowed about how the days of Tom Tancredo were over?
http://www.vdare.com/letters/a-concerned-reader-points-out-that-both-erick-erickson-and-megyn-kelly-are-pro-immigration
The primary, secondary, and tertiary virtues of Donald Trump is that he cannot be bought, and can thus lead independently. All other factors pale in comparison.
“Restate is full of sissy boys who wouldn’t know conservatism if it slept with it’s wife and was named Pablo.”
That part.
The reference to Pablo I guess is something like “Paolo,” the infamous alpha male in the recent story of a cuckold husband. This guy is a #cuckservative troll.
But perhaps you think he had a point beyond being an ass. Please explain what that point is, and be precise.
That works as long as you don’t accept the equation pretty=attractive.
Adjoran is a world unto himself. Once you get used to him you realize it’s safe to write him off.
He did handle her. He handled Wallace as well. Perhaps not as you like, but I doubt he cares a whit.
I agree with ECM here. But it’s shame so many here are buying what the left is offering here on Trump vs Kelly. He wasn’t accusing her of hormonal rage. If that’s the case, the same statement on Wallace makes no sense. Conservatives are supposed to be able to think far better than what I’ve seen in this thread.
He’s the leading candidate for the time being. If you wish to push this line, you’ll have to have a theory of cui bono.
I seriously doubt that the withdrawal of the invite had anything to do with the rules of conduct on Red State’s site. It had everything to do with Erickson being a hypocrite and seeing an opportunity to make a few waves for himself.
Never heard the expression shit show, heard shit storm guess I’m too old
Carson and Carly can both lead independently, they aren’t dependent on political welfare to pay their bills.
The same is true if Cruz and Christi who both have wives with well paying finance jobs….their families don’t need money.
I liked his union fight…but he put his finger to the wind and figured that was the best way to gain support. The same thing with his support then recent backtracking on things like Common Core & Amnesty.
He is a political shill of the worst sort.
The truly amazing thing is that Trump has gained conservative support despite NEVER having been a conservative. Nor is he one now. It shows how desperate people are for almost anyone more outspoken than Boehner and McConnell.
His position on immigration is weak, being aimed at illegals crossing the southern border while effectively ignoring E-verify, visa over-stayers, chain migration, and the visa lottery. Worst of all, I know of nothing he’s said regarding the green card problem, while he’s talked out of both sides of his mouth on work permits for illegals. And there’s that clothing factory in China.
Despite his boast of employing tens of thousands I see no hope of “fixing” unemployment under Trump.
As far as political correctness, we’re all against that. Some of us are even against pointless rudeness and whining like a baby when criticized. Trump is the typical bully, able to dish out criticism but running away to insult others behind their backs.
Not quite a Reagan or a Goldwater. Not even a Harry Truman.
When I review Trump’s defense of his own mercenary buying of politicians that HE ADMITTED TO IN THE DEBATE, I see a perfect example of the crony capitalism that his supporters say they hate.
I think their hatred of the establishment has unbalanced them, and as a result they are now easy to manipulate.
You are reading into their statements. They did not “admit to” being for sale. They admitted either taking contributions or wanting contributions.
Many, many people contribute to campaigns. Almost none of them think they OWN a politician.
Conversely, Trump not only admitted to donating (not a problem in itself), but that he EXPECTED to own politicians. Seems to me the only one who admitted to something sleazy was Trump.
That’s too bad. You seem like a rock-ribbed conservative and I’m sure Red State will miss your sparkling intellect.
“It has been known for a long time…”
First time I’ve heard about it. Are you sure you’re not just a malcontent?
Funny how the pro-Trump flareup coincides to a great extent with the #cuckservative trolling.
There’s a few on Trump’s side who have EARNED the benefit of the doubt, but I’m detecting a lot of trolling going on.
I suspect Fiorina may be too. Too bad she doesn’t have a track record to prove it.
