In Praise Of Erick Erickson For Curb-Kicking A Discourteous Cur

by Smitty

Ol’ EE is taking some Twitter heat for the following act =>
I Have Disinvited Donald Trump to the RedState Gathering.
This blog is in staunch support of Erick on the point. The Presidential election is what amounts to the world’s most painful job interview. For a Chief Executive. Name another Chief Executive whom you’d expect to hear making even oblique menstrual remarks in any context. That CEO would be gonzo in a New York second, and the firm’s stock would be thrashed as every Social Justice Warrior in the Racism Industrial Complex arsenal arrived in a simultaneous time-on-top strike.

(And are the SJW knives coming out for The Donald? That should tell you something about the farce underway.)

One can defend Trump’s anti-Political Correctness stance. Political Correctness is just a variation on the theme of authoritarianism. And American irreverence is something this blog holds very, very dear. Irreverence is the spice of liberty.

But that’s not the same thing as boorishness. Hating aristocracy and the decadence it implies is not barbarism. Just because we’re not kissing Her Majesty’s ring doesn’t mean we’re embracing the sort of crudeness that doesn’t pass muster in church. That irreverence is like spice in the food: a little dab’ll do ya. And it’s hard to remove. So, less is more.

Trump seems the same sort of triumph of style over substance that Barack Obama himself has proven to be. Where are Trump’s substantive policy ideas? The Donald sure appears to be a provocateur, operating in GOP territory and saying outlandish things so that the Democrat base can say: “See? Look what those conservatives tolerate.”

No. Donald: it’s not too late to grow up. You’ve been an affluent, spoiled, vaguely teenage lout for many decades. We need a President, not Sideshow Donald.

Thanks to Erick Erickson for being the Adult in the Room.

Update: Darleen (and co-blogger Jeff on Twitter), are most decidedly NOT in agreement with me on this. I see their point, but stand by Erick on this. Babysitting Trump is not my idea of a good time. Red State is certainly not the GOP. To say that Red State’s actions are those of the GOP is to conflate them, in my opinion.

  1. Erickson’s past attacks on Palin makes him the last person to engage in this kind of fainting couch exercise.

The Palin discourse caused me to distrust Republican opinion journalists as a class of people. I once heard someone complain about cost over-runs on a public works project she’d sponsored. That’s the beginning and end of reasonable criticisms I’ve ever heard about that woman from any party. I had to come to the conclusion that dislike of Palin was fundamentally a species of class-snobbery to which the purveyors would never admit, hence all the phony and ill-reasoned complaints.

  2. Oh please. Kelly will boo and hoo all the way to higher ratings for her 800 show, Fox makes $$ off of the astronomical ratings for the debate due in large part to Trump and Trump gets even more attention. Fox got exactly the result they wanted, that’s why Kelly was the one to ask the question.

  3. Any GOP candidate knows that it will be worse from Leftist ‘journalists’.

IMHO Trump did this to distract from his lousy performance and to keep himself center of attention.

    Mission Accomplished

  4. I suspect of a lot of that “resonating” is from Mobys. The Left wants Trump.

Cruz is a proven fighter than the Establicans can’t stand — and he is an actual conservative.

  5. before I read anyone else, I don’t agree with you either. Erickson is simply acting like a little girl with the vapors. He’s done worse himself and is a hypocrite on the matter.

  6. You’re entitled to your opinion, and you’re welcome to stand by your post. Just be careful that what you are standing behind isn’t truly stupid.

  7. And it is Erickson’s show. NOT a public event, a private one requiring reservations and purchase of tickets OR being invited as his guest.

His sandbox, his rules. The delicate little Trump should get over it.

Trump loves to dish it out, using personal attack as his first response to any criticism. But he can’t take it, like the spoiled brat bully he is. A girl made him cry, and he can’t let it go.

  8. I agree that there are better candidates than Trump. But beat him on issues, i.e., his past support for single payer. If you beat him using PC tactics, these same PC tactics will be used by the Establishment against the conservatives, e.g., what did he say?!? (and not wink, wink, against the moderates till the general). If Trump is beaten by PC, then PC will be used against the remaining conservatives, and you can say welcome to Jeb!, and then to President Clinton.

  9. Limiting D.T.s participation in Republican events is not the way to get rid of him. On the other hand I’d disinvite D.T. in a heart beat in order to invite Megan Kelly.

  10. The point is, he called her, effectively, a bimbo*, OK? The right is as bad as the left where PC is concerned–either the same set of rules applies to everyone, or there are no rules, but you don’t get to have it both ways.

And let’s be clear: the only reason some are upset over this is because it’s self-serving–you hate Trump, and he’s a bad man, and he said something mean (that I’ll totally disregard if my guy/girl says it!), so he should be shamed into silence–not because many of you have even a scintilla of consistency, as this little dust-up over Abortion Barbie demonstrates.

*Note: I have *no* problem with this characterization, just like I have *no* problem re: Kelly, because my panties don’t get wadded up over throwaway lines in off-the-cuff interviews.

  11. To anyone with a brain, Trump’s blood in her eyes, blood in whatever, is clearly an analysis of Kelly’s aggressive and fiery questions towards the Donald. It doesn’t even make sense in context that he was talking about menustration, at worst “blood in her whatever” was the end of a train of thought he was attempting to move on from.

Either way, Erickson is a pathetic fatass coward. If he feels Trump is wrong for the party and wrong for American he should say so. Instead he pathetically plays this off like he’s defending Megan Kelly’s honor, and that it was this one comment which caused RedState to backlash against the Trumpenkrieg.

The comment is an excuse, Erickson and McCain don’t like Trump because he is a direct threat to their business model. Trump doesn’t play their game, he isn’t concerned with angering the base or talking about problems all day–he’s here to solve them. Jump on the train or get run over. But you can’t stop the Trumpenkrieg.

  12. The point isn’t that Erickson shouldn’t have called Wendy Davis names. The point is he can’t say he’s above name-calling and use it as an excuse against Trump.

Erickson only cares that Trump attacked Megyn Kelly because he doesn’t like Trump.

  13. Megyn Kelly is a big girl and fully capable of defending herself. And I thought some of her questions were not so great. So what.

I have no problem with Donald Trump dishing it out to the media, God knows most of them deserve it in spades. But the Donald could have turned that question about sexism around to Kelly with some charm and wit and said:

“You know something Kelly, sometimes I am rude, but I do not discriminate in my attacks. I also treat women in my organization as equals and pay them accordingly, unlike Hillary Clinton. And you know what is really sexist? Bill Clinton using his position to sexually abuse an intern and then Hillary Clinton helping him to destroy that girl. You should be more offended by that than my occasional outbursts…”

Like any politician, Trump needs to win over enough voters to beat his opponents. That means picking off voters from the Democrat side and winning over women voters.

  14. It’s amazing: if someone responds to being slighted, in your world, they’re supposed to sit down, shut up, and take it, because that makes them “tough”. I dunno about you, but most “tough guys’ I know don’t shrink away from a fight when *someone else* throws down the gauntlet–certainly RSM does not, and we don’t begrudge* him being crass and crude towards his asinine interlocutors on a fairly regular basis.

(It’s also amazing what happens when idiotic, self-serving, memes–“Trump is actually scared because he pushes back!”, that’s the ticket!–from the same group of people that castigate the GOP on a daily basis for…not pushing back, devour otherwise rational peoples’ minds. We in the writing biz call that “irony”.)

*I, for one (of many, obviously), APPLAUD this.

  15. In my sailor circles we would call Trump a “whiny bitch” who likes to dish it out then cries he’s being picked upon when he gets called out. Not much of a man.
    Sewerpiper

  16. Haha, yeah, and if he actually swings back like he could, instead of going easy, guys like you accuse him of hitting a woman. Seriously, spare us…

  17. Walker is a life long politician who has never had a real job and lies about flunking out of college.

  18. Trump was awful during the debate. Two things explain his current popularity: High Voter ID; dumb ass people.

  19. I despise EE & Redstate almost as much as I do Donald Trump.

Restate is full of sissy boys who wouldn’t know conservatism if it slept with it’s wife and was named Pablo.

  20. And Megyn Kelly ain’t the class act to defend women’s delicate sensibilities either but that is who IS invited to the Red State gathering. http://shoebat.com/2015/08/08/an-old-recording-of-megyn-kelly-talking-about-penises-breasts-and-how-she-has-sex-proves-trump-was-right-kelly-is-absolute-trash/ Of course this was the butt hurt decision made by the guy who once call Justice Souter a “goat fucking child molester”. http://mediamatters.org/research/2013/05/30/erick-ericksons-latest-sexist-anti-gay-comments/194279
If Trump needs to be told his kettle is black, at least those doing it for these reasons need to be a little less black themselves.

  21. No he didn’t. That was exposed to be a lie.

He had been telling people that he had to quit school because he needed to work for his family….of course…then people found out it was years befor he had a family.

After he flunked out he took some BS non-profit/government job and from there went on to have a long career as a lying politician.

Walker will say anything to get elected, because he has no other skills to pay the bills.

  22. When his first response is wah wah I’m being pick on by a woman on the rag, I guess you got it accurate, he’s a whiny rich kid bully, who can’t take it, and isn’t much of a man except in this wussy century

  23. Trump’s response:

Mr. Trump made Megyn Kelly look really bad — she was a mess with her anger and totally caught off guard. Mr. Trump said “blood was coming out of her eyes and whatever” meaning nose, but wanted to move on to more important topics. Only a deviant would think anything else. This related to the debate, which because of Mr. Trump had 24 million viewers — the biggest in cable news history. According to TIME, Newsmax, Drudge Report, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Hill and many others, Mr. Trump won the debate.

By the way, the guy (Erick Erickson) who made the decision about RedState called Supreme Court Justice David Souter a “goat [expletive] child molester” and First Lady Michelle Obama a “Marxist Harpy.” He was forced to make a humbling apology.

Also, not only is Erick a total loser, he has a history of supporting establishment losers in failed campaigns so it is an honor to be uninvited from his event. Mr. Trump is an outsider and does not fit his agenda.

Many of the 900 people that wanted to hear Mr. Trump speak tonight have been calling and emailing—they are very angry at Erickson and the othersthat are trying to be so politically correct. To them Mr. Trump says, “We will catch you at another time soon.”

  24. With what your are saying, and what Trump said, the only thing I can conclude is that you think Wallace is a female. He said the same thing about Wallace in the same interview.

It has been known for a long time that Erik Erikson is a hypocrite. He had been feuding with Megyn Kelly for a long time over some comments that only a SJW would get upset at. He threw Trump under the bus and invited Megyn Kelly. A white knight or political opportunist? Isn’t that what you have been fighting here on your blog? Fainting couch feminism and their enablers? Or am I mistaken?

  25. Your moronic ramblings are irrelevant. RedState isn’t owned by Trump, and the rules of conduct are posted on the site. If Trump didn’t realize their flavor before agreeing to go there, that was his fault.

  26. Trump tried to disqualify Kelly’s criticism based on her sex. EE accurately distilled Wendy Davis’ campaign into two words. Those are different things.

  27. I wanted to post this earlier, but I didn’t have time as I had things to take of before this next week begins.

Everyone is arguing over Trump’s comments. However, compared to what he actually said in the debate, those are trivial. I am struck that nobody here wrote about or even commented on the fact that Trump dropped a bomb at the debate.

The FOX moderators thought they had gotten Trump with his donations to democrats, however he fully admitted to donating to many politicians. In fact he claimed that up until a few months ago he had been a businessman and that’s what businessmen did. They bought politicians. He even said that he gave money to most of the candidates on stage next to him. And what did those candidates do? They LAUGHED and ADMITTED to it. One who hadn’t received money from Trump even said he would welcome a donation from him.

He said that businessmen give money and then 1, 2, 3 years later they get a favor. When asked what Hillary Clinton did for him, Trump said that he told her to come to his wedding. And she did. He said because she had to. He probably could have mentioned how the Clintons appointed his sister to judgeship as well.

He basically got up on stage, pulled back the curtain and publicly admitted how powerful businessmen, corporations and special interests buy politicians against the interests of the voters. Yet here we are talking about Megyn Kelly.

  28. Erickson has a history of being a dick to women in public. Actually, he has a history of being a dick to people in general. So he doesn’t have the high ground here. If more people actually knew his history, I wouldn’t have to make that argument. The only reason he defended Kelly was because he hates Trump. If anyone had bothered to watch his timeline once in while, they would know this.

  29. OK, my apologies I thought you were arguing that we shouldn’t piss on leftists in any and every way we can.

  30. Don’t mistake my distaste of Restate as anything other than it full of conservative-lite sissy boys.

I have no problem with how they handled Trump.
