Ol’ EE is taking some Twitter heat for the following act =>
I Have Disinvited Donald Trump to the RedState Gathering.
This blog is in staunch support of Erick on the point. The Presidential election is what amounts to the world’s most painful job interview. For a Chief Executive. Name another Chief Executive whom you’d expect to hear making even oblique menstrual remarks in any context. That CEO would be gonzo in a New York second, and the firm’s stock would be thrashed as every Social Justice Warrior in the Racism Industrial Complex arsenal arrived in a simultaneous time-on-top strike.
(And are the SJW knives coming out for The Donald? That should tell you something about the farce underway.)
One can defend Trump’s anti-Political Correctness stance. Political Correctness is just a variation on the theme of authoritarianism. And American irreverence is something this blog holds very, very dear. Irreverence is the spice of liberty.
But that’s not the same thing as boorishness. Hating aristocracy and the decadence it implies is not barbarism. Just because we’re not kissing Her Majesty’s ring doesn’t mean we’re embracing the sort of crudeness that doesn’t pass muster in church. That irreverence is like spice in the food: a little dab’ll do ya. And it’s hard to remove. So, less is more.
Trump seems the same sort of triumph of style over substance that Barack Obama himself has proven to be. Where are Trump’s substantive policy ideas? The Donald sure appears to be a provocateur, operating in GOP territory and saying outlandish things so that the Democrat base can say: “See? Look what those conservatives tolerate.”
No. Donald: it’s not too late to grow up. You’ve been an affluent, spoiled, vaguely teenage lout for many decades. We need a President, not Sideshow Donald.
Thanks to Erick Erickson for being the Adult in the Room.
Update: Darleen (and co-blogger Jeff on Twitter), are most decidedly NOT in agreement with me on this. I see their point, but stand by Erick on this. Babysitting Trump is not my idea of a good time. Red State is certainly not the GOP. To say that Red State’s actions are those of the GOP is to conflate them, in my opinion.
I have no problems with rough and tumble insults, but how does what Trump said help him? It’s worse than boorishness, it’s stupid.
But the end result is that Trump is again getting more attention than he warrants.
Oh, good, the tone police have arrived. Let me raise my pinky as I quaff my tea, careful not to spill any crudite on my doily.
Yes, the Donald is crude and boorish, but no one else amongst the cookie-cutter Republican candidates is willing to get muddy and bloody. He won’t be the nominee of the traditionalist hidebound capitalist party, so “what does it realy matter” if he mixes things up for a while? It’s not like anyone is seriously talking about the issues that matter to the average American anyway…
So he’s not polite enough? That’s your beef? He’s somehow out of bounds for his offhand remark about MK?
“That CEO would be gonzo in a New York second, and the firm’s stock would be thrashed as every Social Justice Warrior in the Racism Industrial Complex arsenal arrived in a simultaneous time-on-top strike.”
You seem to almost be pining for this to happen. Like you wish Trump would be publicly scourged by the mob so he does not offend your apparently quite delicate sense of decorum.
Have some smelling salts, get up off your fainting couch, and freakin’ grow a pair. Politics ain’t beanbag.
With all due respect, Erick Erickson is not the man to criticize someone over the way they treat women. Or have any of you forgotten the “abortion barbie” comments he made about a gubernatorial candidate? I can post all of the nasty little things he’s said about female public figures straight out of his twitter time line if you’d like.
There is nothing more repugnant than hypocrite and nothing more pathetic than a thinned-skinned reporter. And boy do we have those in spades these days. Kelly showed her ass during that debate and if she had been Rachael Maddow, everyone would be clamoring for her head. And just to be clear…I am not a Trump supporter. However, I do like that he’s successfully taking the piss out of the perpetually offended.
Erickson deserves to trend. And for the worst reasons. He’s not an adult. He’s just another offense monger trying to pit us against one another. Remember that.
I’m beginning to think this is a whole Thanatos Gambit: no matter what the GOP and conservatives do regarding Trump, it benefits the Democrats.
We ignore him. A significant part of the base stays home, because he is expressing valid sentiments held widely – whether he believes them or not. Advantage: Hillary.
We bitterly fight each other over what Trump is saying – whether he believes it or not – and we’re a divided party/movement that bleeds out voters. Advantage: Hillary.
We let him suck up all the oxygen from the room, keeping otherwise high-quality candidates from gaining traction and out of the general. Advantage: Hillary
We embrace him. The conservative movement and the GOP become overtly ridiculous and exposed as prone to emotionalism. Advantage: Hillary.
“A gubernatorial candidate”? Why don’t you come out and say it was Wendy Davis? That description was rather spot-on considering her actions.
I am a big fan of focus and discipline in a candidate. If you want to “tell it like it is” by all means do so with focus and discipline. If you lack those two qualities, I cannot support you.
You have a problem with me calling a gubernatorial candidate a “gubernatorial candidate”? I not sure what your point is. Are you saying that its ok to insult women as long as they’re democrats, but not if they’re republicans?
You’re leaving it purposefully vague, as if Erick and Donald’s insults were somehow equivalent. Wendy made her political name filibustering for abortion on demand, so insulting *her* specifically over her *political* stand is more than fair game. Insulting her over her period would be beyond the pale.
Conservatives are sick and tired of the GOP wussies. That is why Trump resonates–he fights. Similarly, that is why I read and donate (albeit small sums) to this site. Stacy fights.
I wasn’t being purposefully vague. Erickson having insulted a candidate was the point. Not her name. Erickson doesn’t get to dictate the high ground here.
And what did Kelly do? She was supposed to be an impartial moderator of a debate who spent the event and the days leading up to it attacking ONE candidate: Trump. She made herself a target no more, no less than Davis.
And why are you using their first names? Do you know them all personally? I mean, since you insist on being “purposeful”.
The last time I checked there is someone in the field who has actually won fights with the left, not to mention a recall election and re-election. A real fighter and winner. And his name is not Donald Trump.
…I’m disappointed for your stand. Megyn Kelly started the fight and when Trump went after her obvious bias, the Sexism scream was heard loud and clear, which you so much write about came out like an avalanche…Shame on you!
Sure, she made herself a target, but the shot fired back was uncalled for. The one against Wendy Davis wasn’t, no matter how much you want to make them equivalent.
Prove it.
“Advantage: Hillary.”
Yep. I have very little doubt for whom The Donald is working.
And while we laugh at Bluto Blutarski, I don’t seriously think we want such a lout for President.
…I guess he’s a mystery to all of us, his message has not been loud and clear. On the other hand, Trump has made all of us aware that everything is not awesome like the Status Quo tells everyday….
Walker is one of my favorite candidates too.
…Next time think 2008 and 2012, please.
…That’s some careless accusation.
…Trump is getting all the flack from Democraters, I would say he’s protecting the GOP candidates.
I’m not sure what your point is. John McCain was seriously lacking in the F&D department and Romney briefly had them in the first debate and then wilted. Even Reagan had F&D problems but wisely tightened up the the ship. F&D wins elections.
Xanatos Gambit, you mean? Thanatos Gambits usually only kick in after someone dies.
Ask Trump who he contributed to recently. It’s hard not to wonder.
Yes, yes, yes. That’s what I mean.. Thank you.
…Mr. Smoke and Mirror was elected twice because the GOP was weak , cowardly and denied its own Conservative base.
What is the F&D department?
I’d be more concerned with who FOX donated to if I were you. Read this list very carefully…

…Good business man has to cover all possibilities.
Most of the S&P companies do donate to both parties, some more than others, is called edging your bets!
Focus and discipline my friend.
And if Trump were a conservative, or even a moderate, that would be one thing. He ain’t.
…Something that geniuses rarely have in abundance….
…Hard to be 100% anything, perfection is not a Human quality!
I totally think Trump’s a double agent. He can grow up and change my opinion.
No, Megyn called him out for being a jerk. And Trump can be a jerk, but I don’t support a jerky President.
Most of the GOP (take a look at the House and Senate) aren’t conservatives plus they are wussies. That is why nothing useful is getting done, and in fact, Obama’s agenda is being implemented.
Foxnews was not trying to take out Trump so we would get Walker or Cruz. Foxnews was trying to take out Trump so we get Jeb!
Trump seems the same sort of triumph of style over substance that Barack
Obama himself has proven to be. Where are Trump’s substantive policy
ideas?
I do not care for Mr. Trump’s manners or sensibility and there really is no telling what he’ll do in the realm of policy. However, it is sorely unfair to compare him (or, really, any of the Republican candidates bar perhaps Marco Rubio) to Barack Obama. Mr. Trump is a very accomplished businessman. Barack Obama spent 12 years in two different legislatures and was at the end of that period an identified authority in no area of policy; he held no position of leadership in either of these bodies; pro-rating periods of part-time and seasonal employment, he practiced law for roughly four years and achieved no professional benchmarks in that time; he was a peripheral faculty member of the University of Chicago for 12 years and never published a single piece of scholarly literature, performed no university service, and, by some accounts, was hired in contravention of customary procedures and suffered a secular decay in student evaluations. He did, though, manage to run the Chicago Annenberg Challenge into the ground. Mr. Trump is a rogue candidate; he is not a consumer product invented by David Plouffe.
Nothing useful is getting done because Obama is still president. If Obama weren’t twisting the constitution into a pretzel to do things on his own authority, most conservatives would consider congress doing nothing to be a good thing.
“Sundance” over at The Last Refuge is a diligent peddler of conspirazoid blather and a loudmouth Trump votary too. I cannot wait to hear him accuse you of being an agent of clan Bush. Maybe you can make accusations against each other …
It doesn’t matter if she started it. The president is expected to rise above petty attacks, or he’ll be just like Obama.
What’s next, Trump scratching his cheek with a middle finger?
And they’d be pretty dumb to think that. Scrapping encrusted patron-client relations requires action.
Very little of what the federal government does ‘matters’ to the ‘average voter’. If you tamper with Social Security or Medicare or raise taxes on a critical mass of the populace, that will matter. At the local level, raising someone’s property taxes or looking clueless during an ice storm or when chemical contamination is discovered in someone’s water supply will get you in trouble. Otherwise, the general public reacts to very little. If the filthy media hammers at an issue for a couple of years week after week, that might have an effect (see George W. Bush administration, 2004-07).
Wendy Davis was known for two traits:
1) Being more attractive than the average Democrat woman.
2) Supporting abortion unconditionally.
The moniker of “Abortion Barbie” was apt.
Implying that Ms. Kelly’s criticism was motivated by her period was an attempt at disqualification; an attempt to negate the criticism through ad hominem attacks. As such, it was inappropriate.
It’s funny that in the Donald’s press release, he calls EE a “total loser” without ever mentioning that he was okay being invited by him until the invitation was withdrawn.
EE was under no obligation to tolerate Trump’s hijinks. RedState isn’t the GOP, nor is it a libertarian site. You can’t even swear there.
He’s the leading candidate at this point, FWIW. How much inattention would he warrant?
Erickson’s past attacks on Palin makes him the last person to engage in this kind of fainting couch exercise.
And the Left is gleefully piling on.
Trump doesn’t do well on open stages – as the debate proved. He is not stupid so IMHO this remark was calculated to move him into the headlines yet again.
AND we are playing along!! The Stupid Party, indeed.
1) Being more attractive than the average Democrat woman.
She’s a twice-divorced bottle blonde past 50 whose dealings with her discarded 2d husband proved to be perfectly mercenary. She also has a physiographic neck. Not attractive.
