The #FreeStacy Story: Why Was My @rsmccain Account Suspended?

Unexpectedly, and without explanation, my @rsmccain Twitter account was suspended Friday evening. Based on past experiences, my guess would be that this resulted from a complaint by one of the leading “social justice warriors” (SJWs) who have been at war with #GamerGate since August 2014. However, there was no reason stated for the suspension, and who knows? So I’ve switched to the @SexTroubleBook account I created to promote my book and meanwhile, friends who are fed up with Twitter’s bias and censorship started the #FreeStacy hashtag. This morning I shared some thoughts with a blogger friend who followed the #GamerGate saga:

As I have said for years: Being notorious is not the same as being famous, but it’s better than being anonymous.
That is to say, I don’t often complain about being hated or misunderstood. It comes with the territory. I started out in the news business as a $4.50-an-hour staff writer for a tiny weekly newspaper in Austell, Georgia. Most people have no idea what I did before I got involved in political journalism as an assistant national editor for The Washington Times in 1997, or even have any idea of the work I did there. The vast majority of people who read my blog or follow my Twitter feed have no knowledge of or interest in my personal “backstory.” It’s not about me. I am not the story. I am the guy telling the story, or I am the guy making jokes about the story. I understand that. But I think some people in the New Media era lose sight of this reality.
Politics is like football. It’s a team sport. Until I was in my mid-30s, I was a very partisan Democrat. Bill Clinton (who I voted for in 1992) cured me of my Democrat loyalty. During the 1990s, I began a rather deep autodidactic study of politics, history, economics, philosophy, etc. My politics are conservative, my economics are Austrian, my faith is Christian. It’s that simple — and certain people HATE me for it. But those people hate everybody who is not a Democrat. Fine. I understand that kind of hate, having once been a Democrat myself, but Democrats think of their personal hatred as “social justice.” And so I understand them better than they understand me.
However, it’s not about me. . . .

You can read the whole thing at The Ralph Retort.

This has been a crazy experience, but then again, my whole life has been a crazy experience, so I’m cool with it.

UPDATE: Linked by Darleen Click at Protein Wisdom, Legal Insurrection, Da Tech Guy Blog, Battleswarm, featured at Twitchy, Vox Day, now a Memeorandum thread and welcome, Instapundit readers!

UPDATE II: Robby Soave quotes me accurately at Reason magazine, and they’ll probably never forgive him for it.

UPDATE III: Here’s a podcast I did today:

UPDATE IV: Linked by Donald Douglas at American Power and by Dean Esmay at Dean’s World. Arguably the most interesting post, however, is Ken White at Popehat explaining why he really, really dislikes me and yet . . .

Well, he hates me with every fiber of his being, which is OK. It is a free country, and nobody is required to like me, or even to pretend to like me. However, if Hillary is elected president and our nation descends into anarchy and civil war, and from this chaos emerges a military junta in need of a Supreme Leader as figurehead of New America, I’m available for the gig.

Under such a regime, Generalissimo McCain will not only be obeyed, but also respected and, in fact, it will be the duty of his people to admire and praise the Generalissimo.

Is such an outcome . . . likely? Probably not, but you can’t say it is impossible. You are my people, America, and should circumstances require me to rescue our beloved nation — a swift coup d’état, at a time of crisis — then you understand it will be my duty to answer the call. The Enemies of the People will tremble! And the enemies of the Generalissimo are also the Enemies of the People, obviously.

Blog wars? The Generalissimo will be merciful. It would ill behoove the junta to be settling personal grudges and besides, our manpower will be strained to its limits, rounding up Women’s Studies majors and feminist Tumblr bloggers, giving them a few days’ training, loading them onto C-130s and dropping them by parachute into places like Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, etc., as part of our effort to bring about world peace.

  1. Did he call anyone a cancer? As a cancer survivor I can tell you that’s pretty hurtful. Did he use any historically-annotated slurs? Transgress the bounds of normal polite society elsewise? I bet he did.

  2. Bit, obviously, very unevenly applied, as many users have found. We have one woman that posts here regularly who had her account suspended when she literally did nothing. She was simply lied about about by some of the net’s biggest pests, and the idiots running Twitter simply suspended her.

It takes little to get suspended, and the current “safety” council will simply ratchet up the Stalinist environment.

I can believe Stacy did not get an email. There is a lot going on, such as “shadow banning” that is not being announced to the victims either.

  3. Feministas are a cancer. If calling someone something accurately is insulting to you, then you need to examine yourself. That is not a transgression of “normal polite society.” That is simply being truthful, and in many ways it candy coats the problem.

Twitter is starting to swirl around the drain.

  4. The very word “cuckservative” is simply absurd. I’VE been called that, multiple times, which just goes to show how absurd it is.

  5. There really are problems with Flouridation. I had flouridosis and ended up with a bunch of fillings in my mouth as a result. Everywhere i had a flouride swirl, I got a cavity.

There are other documented problems with flouride in drinking water that TPTB don’t want people talking about that are not conspiracy theories.

  6. I don’t even know who that guy is, and I read McCain every day. Shows how severe his “harassment” is. What a girlie crybaby.

  7. I disagree. The term applies quite well to people like McConnell and Cornyn. Too many use a term without actually understanding what the term means. Stacy is not one. RINOs are.

  8. I think cuckservative is a good one because they are fake conservatives and they cuckold us all. The added benefit is they hate the term.

  9. He was vocal supporter of statutory rapist Kaitlyn Hunt. Was quite nasty to others who thought a 18 year-old adult should not have finger sex with a 14 year-old minor in a public bathroom. @NicoleBonnet1 really gets him wound up. Once they even went of claiming I was stalking him because I liked the Vero Beach Facebook page. Really I kid you not!

Just do a search on him or Kaitlyn Hunt here at McCain’s.

FYI It was over two years ago!

  10. I bet you’re just free-associating now.

I’m a cancer survivor – in fact, I survived terminal cancer, and I think calling some people a cancer is pretty darn accurate. But then again, I’m not a crybaby controlled by my emotions either.

  11. What’s “historically-annotated”? Is that where there’s no such thing as a slur against men, whites and straights?

  12. Oh for crying out loud! Really?

Kaitlyn got treated WAY better than she should have been, and she still couldn’t control her pedophilia.

  13. I’d like that. I have DM’s email and she can pass it on to you. I wouldn’t mind getting your email anyway.

  14. AThe major social media networks are multibillion international privately owned corporations. They have the right to limit what their owner/owners or Board finds objectionable to their ideology.

BGoogle Search and all the major social media platforms have massive data bases, the best programmers and huge R and D budgets that are creating artificial intelligence programs that control the “popularity” of a post.

Are the major social media platforms creating a modern day Hays Code?

  15. I thought I had added her to my contacts, but didn’t. I screwed up. I did have an email from her, but can’t find it now either.

  16. If you were a regular here, you’d know the answers to the questions. But I’m sure McCain appreciates your concern-trolling, though.

  17. So sorry that you can’t believe that a bunch of Fascist SJWs wouldn’t do what Fascist SJWs normally do.

Your outlook is entirely silly, and quite naive, if you are being serious.

  18. The host is doing his part to make them play by their own rules or admit that the rules are bogus. This is the way.

We want the termites on the left to regard twitter and facebook and each tv network and each major motion picture studio and each record label and each university as indistinguishable from any another exploitative corporation, and thus liable to be attacked and shaken down as is convenient.

Instapundit recommends revoking hollywood’s tax breaks; why not throw all the media and tech companies and every other potential revenue stream into the mix? This is a populist shoryuken e.g. If do right, no can defense. Too many out and proud SJW leftists got gold-played shark tanks and private jets… for now. Strike the mufucking root of your movements problems: their money.

Make them argue like shame-faced Laffers to keep their tax cuts and beg to be spared the rapacity of the state; then do away with them. Make them apologize and renounce their evil ways; make them pronounce their victory over themselves and their love of America lol

Hey, let’s get real crazy for a sec: put it out there that you’re going to take their children from them; that’s right, you heard me: take their fucking kids, just like during the cultural revolution. Who’s going to gainsay you, Anita Dunn? Melissa Harris Perry? Fuck u; u didn’t build that, they belong to the state now lol… our state (aaaand all of a sudden, the family is inviolable again). Down to the countryside up to the mountains!

Start visibly pantomiming Mao’s efforts to surround the cities, people in pick-up trucks with gun racks, motorcycle gangs, ex military and militia… Scare the fuck out of them with a consistent demonstration of your movement’s discipline. Find the choke points for the food supply, energy supply. communications. Find the gray area between direct action and crime. They time their demonstrations for maximum effect; you can, too.

    So much to do…

  19. Time after time Twtr management has made the wrong call. As a result, their stock is now trading under $20 per share.

Several years ago, Microsoft(Bungie) band thousands(20K+) of hard core 360 players for code violations. The xbox has never fully recovered because the people they banded were also the very people most excited about playing. Plus, they were almost all computer nerds and are now some of the smartest people in the industry. All microsoft did was make sure they had thousand of very smart young men that won’t even apply to work at microsoft.

So where is this going. Twtr is kicking off the very people they should want, but Twtr management has made the wrong call so many time I have lost count.

  20. I haven’t seen anyone use that defense successfully since the “Public accommodation” thing was established in case law. It’s not merely harder, it is, as a practical matter, impossible to use the defense successfully.

  21. About five years ago a couple of the email programs added the “feature” that if you removed someone from your address book you couldn’t read their emails. It didn’t last long though.

  22. backlash has been predicted for several decades now. It hasn’t happened, and the courts have grown more entrenched in both leftist/lawless ideology and they keep moving left. I think you will be waiting a very long time before there is a successful backlash, unless we suddenly tilt over into truly revolutionary times, then all best are off.

  23. Are your poor wittle felz hurt? Good! your momma and papa should have spanked you as a child. Perhaps then, you wouldn’t be such an ignorant twit.

  24. Kasich and Carson might as well join him.

Frankly, this was utterly predictable. His speechifying was stupid beyond stupid. People are tired of tolerating illegal immigrants and Trump has done us all a favor by laying that on the table.

If this keeps up, Trump is going to run the table. It looks bad for Cruz, and I hope it starts looking really bad for Rubio. After Gang of 8, I can’t stand the man.

  25. Those are the good parts, and you have to wade through oceans of feminist crazy to find them. Not worth it.

  26. Bill Clinton (who I voted for in 1992) cured me of my Democrat loyalty.

Reagan (and even more, George H.W. Bush) had the same function for me and the Republican Party. Skoal!
