Krauthammer On The Vineyard

Charles is his usual insightful self on BHO’s vacation spot, concluding:

You know, the Vineyard doesn’t have any bridges to it. You either get there on a ferry in your Maserati, or on a jet or a helicopter. It’s not exactly where ordinary folks will take a vacation.

If I was going to write a story about a Manchurian candidate in trouble, I’d pick a spot like Martha’s Vineyard to have him retreat as his Presidency crumbled. My–strictly fictional, mind you–character is a manic-depressive idealogue who is buried so far underground by the Atlas Shrug of his failed presidency that his feet are sticking out the other side of the planet.

So he withdraws to MV to do the Prozac shuffle. Also appearing: his plutocrat overlords, who are pretending to be supportive, cutting their final deals to rape the U.S. economy, and working the numbers on whether they pull the plug.

Oh, wait: I already wrote something similar: OediPOTUS Wrecks.

One minor nit with Krauthammer’s take – the Vineyard is more of a Range Rover kind of town.

That’s the real kick in the head: These “provocative” and
“salacious” images aren’t being produced as pornography, but rather
are being used in fashion ads targeted at women consumers — and those consumers don’t seem to mind.

Probably not the time to point out that the entire de Luca family is heading there tomorrow…..

To be serious: the other problem is that Martha’s Vineyard is generally the retreat of New Englanders and perhaps the occasional New Yorker.  George Bush vacationed (well, working vacationed) in Crawford, Texas, because he’s a Texan.  Everyone goes to Vegas or Florida for vacation.  But the Vineyard is, IM(New Englander) opinion, a vacation spot for New Englanders.

If the guy wants to go there once, fine.  But I fail to understand why a Hawaiian-turned-Chicagoan with his Chicago wife and Chicago kids are there every freaking summer.  It’s so desperate and suck-up-y.

Darn.  Copy-pasted wrong quote.  I was going for:

You know, the Vineyard doesn’t have any bridges to it. You either get
there on a ferry in your Maserati, or on a jet or a helicopter. It’s not
exactly where ordinary folks will take a vacation.

He’s not there to suck up he’s there to be sucked up to and be with the “right sort”.

The Vineyward has been the playground of The Beautiful People since the Eighties.  Sure many New Englanders go there for vacation, but people like Mike Wallace and Carly Simon live there.  So, it makes perfect sense for Little Lord Hemorrhiod and Lady Michbeth to want to go and hang around with their own kind.  Also, the people from NE who visit there are, the De Luca famly excepted, typical Masshole who always vote the Democratic Party line.
