Ron Paul’s “Restore America”: Spot On

It’s an 11 page .pdf that is as serious as lung cancer about doing something concerning federal over-reach and over-spending, nuking:
- Department of Education
- Department of Commerce
- Department of Energy
- Department of the Interior
- Department of Housing and Urban Development
What gives me pause about the bulk of the candidates is that they seem to be looking around the elephant in the room, the over-reach, and just talking about reigning in spending.
As they do pretty much every. Single. Miserable. Election. Cycle. It’s like some big news when a Rick Perry calls Social Security a Ponzi scheme. When the truth is like a shocking revelation, that, itself, is a problem.
Admittedly, I get queasy when Ron ventures into foreign policy, but what difference does foreign policy make when the whole country is impoverished by our idiot Ruling Class? One is tempted to vote for whoever is bringing the biggest wrecking ball.

October 18th, 2011 @ 8:31 am
You may have a point. After all, Ron’s reluctance to use the military will be precipitously reversed as soon as AQ or Iran smuggles a nuke through the open borders.
OTOH, you haven’t seen impoverished (or Marxist) until you’ve seen the results of 30 million new citizens as the result of those same open borders importing half the Third World. Foreign policy includes immigration / border policy, and the intersection with the domestic economy will get pretty obvious.
October 18th, 2011 @ 9:10 am
Paul isn’t even as good as he initially sounds on the economy. I can’t take anybody seriously that starts talking about going back on the gold standard. I don’t know exactly how much gold we have in reserve, but I do know its significantly less than one trillion dollars worth. We have a more than ten trillion dollar economy, and a going on fifteen trillion dollar debt. Going to a gold standard would mean rampant inflation. It would also mean outlawing private ownership of gold to prevent runs on it. Under a gold standard system, a twenty dollar bill means “pay to the bearer twenty dollars worth of gold”. If you can’t cash it in, then the gold standard is meaningless.
This is probably why Nixon ended the gold standard to begin with. It’s an antiquated, archaic system.
There isn’t enough gold in the world, including what is still in the ground, to equal ten trillion dollars. Under a gold standard any economic growth would feature a corresponding rise in inflation. And bi or multiple metalism wouldn’t make matters any better.
The only way it would work would be, shrink the economy. Not just shrink it, outright collapse it to the point where the current dollar is about as valuable as the Mexican Peso. Or maybe the Italian lira in Post World War II Italy.
It would be the mother of all economic depressions and it would be worldwide, but after about a third of humanity is killed off and the other two thirds are living hand to mouth, then whoever has the guns can start rebuilding using a gold standard.

An objective look at the last seven administrations shows the revolving door of Washington insiders who cycle through in executive positions.
Begs the question… who will these candidates bring into their policy making and regulatory seats of power? This Obama disaster puts an exclamation point on this issue what with the absolute lawlessness and looting promoted by his appointees.
October 18th, 2011 @ 9:27 am
Ron is a kook. A stopped clock is right twice a day.
October 18th, 2011 @ 10:28 am
The first…and only…plan which would do what every politician on either side of the aisle is terrified to do. We hear about ‘draconian’ cuts…a trillion dollars!!! Uh, over 10 years, which would do nothing to rein in the monstrosity our federal government has become. The argument has been wrong….we don’t need to focus on reducing what government spends….we need to focus on reducing what government DOES. Do the latter, and the former will follow.
October 18th, 2011 @ 10:53 am
This “Restore America” plays well in Peoria, but Personnel Is Policy. Who forms Paul’s inner circle? Who are his policy advisors?
And, as with every GOP candidate for POTUS: is the RNC’s House and Senate campaigns fully synchronized? Or once again promoting Charlie Crist and Mike Castle as the epitome of Conservativism?
October 18th, 2011 @ 10:57 am
And THIS is why I will vote for Ron Paul.

Dead right, Smitty and Adobe.
Its all about the wrecking ball and who is really willing to bring it and who has a record of voting to bring it. And for me, even separate from who I support in the election, elevating Paul’s profile in the race is about showing that there is a genuinely large constituency out there that wants to take a wrecking ball to the unconstitutional schemes of the ruling class.

The problem with wrecking balls: they’re damned hard to control.
October 18th, 2011 @ 1:50 pm
What amazes is that the founding principles are well known, so when a guy like Rep. Paul talks about them, it should be nothing more surprising than hearing the Pledge of Allegiance.
Oh, wait.
October 18th, 2011 @ 1:50 pm
Not in the hands of a skillful operator. This is not to say that Ron Paul is that skillful operator, but he’s pointed in the right direction. Alas he’s also completely wrong on foreign policy.
October 18th, 2011 @ 1:52 pm
Smitty said, “Admittedly, I get queasy when Ron ventures into foreign policy, but what difference does foreign policy make when the whole country is impoverished by our idiot Ruling Class?”
Amen! It’s encouraging that more folks are realizing that one Big Government project leads to another, and in no particular order.
W proclaimed a global war on terror to bring democracy to the world. Democrats voted for that war, and still do, because the same justification for W’s global democratic revolution works nicely for their socialistic, egalitarian, and open borders schemes.
October 18th, 2011 @ 1:58 pm
At today’s prices $20 worth of gold would slip through the weave of the fabric of your pants pocket. There are a lot of serious respectable people who believe that we will go back on the gold standard. I read an interesting article on a forum held on this subject over the weekend. Unfortunately I didn’t bookmark it ans could find it yesterday.
October 18th, 2011 @ 2:23 pm
He’s got people from both Bush admins and at least one Reagan guy advising him. And I would imagine he’s his own economic advisor. 🙂
October 18th, 2011 @ 2:25 pm
Sure. They can’t run this country but they can settle the centuries-old wars of the Middle East. I totally believe that. (not!)
Besides, our staggering debt is the biggest threat to national security that we’ve ever faced.
October 18th, 2011 @ 2:29 pm
People keep saying that, but every foreign policy prediction he made over the past 20 years has come to fruition, so I’m not convinced that that he’s wrong now.
October 18th, 2011 @ 2:35 pm
Paul doesn’t actually advocate for a return to the gold standard in the sense that you’re understanding it. http://www.campaignforliberty.com/article.php?view=557
I only wish we could give Ron Paul the gift of Hermann Cain’s gab.
October 18th, 2011 @ 3:28 pm
TY Angela!
October 18th, 2011 @ 3:35 pm
I am. The notion that the proper limits of our national defense are our shores or attacks on our shipping is my idea of wrong.
October 18th, 2011 @ 3:39 pm
Angela, Paul will not be the nominee. The 9/11 Truthers, Stormfront, and the Klan has seen to that. Few Americans would be comfortable with Alex Jones as the White House Press Secretary. Admittedly, such a scenario would have a modicum of comedy value.
October 18th, 2011 @ 4:11 pm
Alex Jones as Press Secretary would be akin to Nixon deputizing Elvis.
October 18th, 2011 @ 5:29 pm
I just went on the site of the Knight’s Party, one of the many Ku Klux Klan organizations. I went there to see if they supported the OWS movement, as Stormfront is. They didn’t say anything about OWS, but guess who they support for President. The first three guesses are free.
October 18th, 2011 @ 5:33 pm
It’s not been going on centuries, nor even one century. More like three fourths of a century. It could be solved easily by just getting out of the Israelis way and tell them “do whatever the hell you have to do”. Unlike Doctor Paul, I do not support cutting off their aid until such time as their problem no longer exists.
October 18th, 2011 @ 7:22 pm
Still isn’t enough. He’s about half way there. Cut another trillion and another 5-10 departments/agencies, and that will be a proper start. From top to bottom, the entire federal apparatus will need to be rethought. There just isn’t anyway around it, given the fiscal realities.
October 18th, 2011 @ 8:46 pm
Ignore the Neocon Pagan. His allegiance is very different from ours.
October 18th, 2011 @ 9:38 pm
Yeah, he’s a fan of supporting our actual ally.
October 19th, 2011 @ 7:45 am
SDN, this is very true, thanks for recognizing that. Also, just to point out another difference, I think the greatest of all US presidents is George Washington, not Jefferson Davis lol
October 19th, 2011 @ 2:30 pm
Actually, if you read the pdf he whacks them pretty hard right in the budget. Cuts EPA and HHS in half.
October 19th, 2011 @ 2:34 pm
Israel just cut $850 million from its defense budget. It’s a wealthy nation that can carry its own weight.
And this so-called “ally” had no problem spying on us and selling the info to the Soviets.
