Rick Santorum Talks Steelers Football

Posted on | January 1, 2012 | 19 Comments

JOHNSTON, Iowa
My friend Dan Collins insisted that I must interview the candidate about his favorite NFL team, which I did Friday night:

SANTORUM: “We will beat the Browns this week. My prediction is, both the Patriots will lose to the Bills and the Ravens will lose to the Bengals and we will be the Number One seed in the AFC playoffs.”
ME: “And who is going to be your opponent in the Super Bowl?”
SANTORUM: “I cannot see how the Packers don’t get it. …”
ME: “So the Steelers and the Packers?”
SANTORUM: “Rematch. And of course, Green Bay, after the last Super Bowl says, ‘Ain’t gonna be no rematch.’ Well there is going to be a rematch.”
ME: “So you don’t give any credit to the Cowboys?”
SANTORUM: “Who?”

The kind of tough questions they don’t ask on “Meet the Press.”

I find his NFL policy naive and dangerous.

I am more focused on the Rose Bowl right now.  But I am for the Steelers too.  On Wisconsin!

Can you ask him about Hockey, for me, a lowly New York Rangers fan (who is the sad anti-jihad blogger that endorsed him but had her heart broken into pieces when she was excluded from the blogger conference call she’d been told she’d be a part of)?  I know he’s a Pennsylvania guy, so I can only hope that he likes the badass Penguins and not the evil Philadelphia Flyers.

Of course he had nothing to say about the sad sack Iggles.

I’m just rooting for a loss by Denver and a victory by my Oakland Raiders so that we win the AFC West.

I’ve been a Steelers fan since their new coach used his draft to choose a defensive lineman from North Texas State named Charles Edward Greene, but I recognize today’s team isn’t the strongest we’ve fielded in recent years.  And I also dream of the Bengals beating the Ravens, but doubt it will happen.

He could have done a better job on MTP, too – Gregory’s defense of Obama’s policy being the same as Bush’s deserved to be decisively slapped down and refuted for the lie it is.

The Patriots beat Buffalo. They decimated them, so it looks like they got home field for the playoffs. It’s probably going to be them and GB, but I wouldn’t count San Fran out.

The Ravens won too. 0-2, Rick.

We can agree that the AFC champ will likely face the Pack, though. SB XXXI rematch!

I’d like to see it turn out to be Cincinnati versus Detroit. It might not be the greatest Super Bowl in history, but it might well be the funniest.

You could make it interesting by telling the Lions if they win they get to move to another city.
