Stacy McCain Still Shines

Marco Rubio is a GOP celebrity whose nod would be a real help in the Florida primary. Legal Insurrection points out that:

Neither Romney nor Newt deserve credit for helping launch Rubio.
That credit goes to the folks at Not One Red Cent and a handful of other bloggers who started backing Rubio in 2009, when no one believed.

And who was the original Not One Red Cent blogger? That would be the Rodney Dangerfield Of Our Dextrosphere, Stacy. If you catch up with Stacy in Florida, offer him some encouragement. Sure, being the RDOOD is a thankless job, so he should be well acquainted with the underside of the bus, but that doesn’t mean that the occasional bit of linkage, re-tweeting, or even tip-jar hitting would be unwelcome.

He may not always be right, but he’s never boring.

I didn’t realize Stacy played such a pivotal role in Rubio’s election. He deserves a special award for that alone.

Legal Insurrection, a/k/a Obama Reelection Central, is one of the top sources for Gingrich-flavored Kool Aid.   It’s a simple trick of false equivalency:  neither Mitt nor Newt “launched” Rubio, so they are equal, right?

NOT.  Romney gave money, raised money, and campaigned actively in Florida for Rubio (on his own dime, which he has a few of).  What did Newt do?  Stay out of the race until the result was clear?

And while I appreciate those bloggers like Stacy and Erickson who got on the Rubio bandwagon early, they didn’t “launch” him either.  The guy was Speaker of the Florida House, an up-and-coming figure already.  He launched himself.

Bloggers and Tea Party folks got on board and helped raise early money, so they certainly did more for Rubio than Gingrich ever did for Reagan, but if anybody deserves credit for Rubio’s win besides Marco himself, that honor belongs to Charlie Crist, without whom it would not have been possible.   (Mr. Crist could not be present to receive his award because of a prior tanning salon commitment).

You just can’t pass up any opportunity to toot Mitt’s horn, can you Gabriel? What the hell, has Mitt offered to make you a god of one of his future moons or something?

It was Stacy who made Mr. Rubio known to us and first spread the word.
