Sissypuss the Blog Kitty informs me that I’ve confused Arlen Specter’s plaintive whine about being used like a spitoon by Harry Ried with Pat Benatar. Oh, that’s right: Benatar had more raw energy in the shoelace holding her outfit together than the Snarlin’ One has in his entire carcass:Yid with Lid has a quotation from some strangely bound toilet paper claiming Specter’s authorship. I’m sorry: did that betray my opinion of anything Arlen has to say or write? I hope it fares more poorly than that lousy jackwagon Nancy Pelosi’s sad little efforts at selling books.

Wait: am I guilty of blaming the victim for not showing sympathy for poor wee Arlen? If you’re looking for ‘sympathy’, check the dictionary between ‘s**t’ and ‘syphilis’, to quote a vulgar old family saying.

How on earth could you possibly mistake Specter’s low-grade whining for the full throated rock-n-roll of the smokin’ hot Pat Benatar? I’ve heard of sleep deprivation playing strange tricks on the mind but come on… I gotta say though, the song choice fits perfectly.

Of course the democrats crapped on him. It’s what they do. He wasn’t born yesterday, he’s been around long enough to know better. Or did he think he was an exception to the Left’s pattern of lies to get what they want?

Here’s what I have trouble imagining: in a tightening market for publishing as the market shifts to an e-model, what pitch do you give a publisher to put out an Arlen Specter retrospective? Just who is the target audience for this? Who is going to buy these books, much less read them?

I mean, Arlen lacks the sizzling logic of Orrin Hatch, the charisma of Mitch McConnell, and the perfect diction of Jim DeMint. He is the boring old fart on the Judiciary Committee. You wouldn’t buy a watch from the guy on the street.

I don’t get it.

And yet Santorum in his wisdom (and selfishness) was the man that saved Specter, giving Obama the 60th vote for ObamaCare.

Oh well, it’s not like he supported Sotomayor or anything. Oh wait.

How did Santorum “save” Specter? He did endorse his senior colleague in a contested primary, under pressure from his party leadership and his party’s sitting President, but Specter had endorsed Santorum when Rick was running for Senate as a two-term congressman. To do otherwise would have been disloyal.

Before Sotomayor, Specter did marshal through the nominations of John Roberts and Sam Alito. So it wasn’t as if he had deserted ship immediately.

When was the last time an incumbent Senator did NOT endorse his incumbent colleague of the same party?

I am surprised that the Democrats reneged on Specter. He probably saw how well things had worked out for the previous traitor, Jeffords, and thought he could expect the same.

I am not surprised because I thought the Democrats had more honor, but because they have poisoned the well against any future turncoats. Had they kept their thieves bargain with Specter, future RINO traitors could double deal with confidence. Now, they will be reluctant to backstab the Republicans to join the Democrats, since they now know that the Dems will just screw them over.

So… when his personal ethics conflict with what the Party wants, or when all those claims he’s made about being True-Blue Conservative conflict with what the Party wants… we can trust Santorum to “be a team player” and do as the Party asks.
Just like he did last time, and for the same reasons.
