@SpeakerBoehner, Sir, Please Don’t Bore Me With Mere Talk Of Jail

Speaker Boehner on the IRS scandal:
Sure, there are malefactors who should be jailed.
But the larger issue, sir, it the system itself. The IRS has now become Checkov’s Gun.
If all that’s done is a appoint a special prosecutor, locate one or two more flagrant folks, and jail them, a major point stands missed.
Let’s break it down:
- Our tax code has completely gone to seed.
- Taxation is not directly tied to a balanced budget.
- Anything you do short of total reform is tacitly agreeing to a fundamentally broken system.
So, Speaker Boehner: don’t let a crisis go to waste in the face of a need for fundamental reform, rationalization, and rebuilding of integrity.

There are several govt. agencies that need to be abolished or at the least reformed from the bottom up. But the IRS should be first on the list.

Repeal the 16th Amendment and abolish the IRS

There’s a lot of talk. I’m waiting for action, and I’m not holding my breath. I expect nothing from Boehner, and he usually delivers.
May 19th, 2013 @ 8:19 pm
Everything with Boehner is smoke and mirrors. He is
absolutely committed to maintaining the status quo in big government. He doesn’t even seem to care which party grows the government, as long as it grows.
And, please, please, please, stop the nonsensical talk of impeachment. There is no way in the world BHO will ever be impeached.
May 19th, 2013 @ 8:20 pm
“@SpeakerBoehner, Sir, Please Don’t Bore Me With Mere Talk Of Jail”
And don’t cry about it either.
May 19th, 2013 @ 8:46 pm
^this. Boehner and McConnell probably smiled to each other when they found out that Tea Party groups had been targeted. After all, they were trying to suppress the Tea Party caucus after 2010.
May 19th, 2013 @ 8:49 pm
The focus here indeed should not be the Obaman excesses, the corrupt employees at IRS, or even the “dog whistles” of communications between them as Obama speaks across the country accusing conservatives of evil, corruption, and unspecified illegalities and the faithful union thugs at IRS dutifully investigate the publicly declared targets. It is not that corrupt people or corrupt Administrations may exist, but that IRS is too big and powerful to take the chance.
Tax simplification, eliminating ALL deductions and tax loopholes, would enable a drastic lowering of rates without affecting revenue, and the downsizing of 30,000 or more union leg-breakers from IRS (instead of hiring 16,000 more of the brutes). One low flat rate, no exceptions, no favorable treatment, no sacred cows, and one postcard to fill out.
May 19th, 2013 @ 9:55 pm
The GOP should take a page from the Rahm playbook and use the IRS crisis to push for a complete overhaul of the tax system, but Boehner is a nutless wonder who doesn’t know whether to wind his ass or scratch his wristwatch.
May 20th, 2013 @ 1:21 am
Exactly. Obama will not be removed from office by Harry “Ashen Piehole” Reid’s Senate, regardless of any impeachment by the House.
So he’ll just use Impeachment, Yes! the same way Bill Ayers and Bill Clinton have used their non-convictions: as a resume enhancer to increase speaking fees and ‘Q’ factor on the campaign trail.
So we should really make sure we retake the Senate, defund Obamacare from top-to-bottom over barack’s veto, and replace the current tax system with something simple, over the arm twisting and crocodile tears of the Tax Attorney lobby.
If we can’t do it in the aftermath of this scandal, it will never happen (until the next civil war).
May 20th, 2013 @ 1:58 am
For myself, I don’t expect much from an oompaloompa.
Please forgive me. I have Hank Johnson as a rep., so I have incredibly high expectations.
May 20th, 2013 @ 7:53 am
The first civil war. This country has never had a civil war. The war that goes by that name in yankee land was not a civil war by any stretch the imagination. If you want to study a real civil war, the Romans had a few, as did the Brits.
May 20th, 2013 @ 7:55 am
I won’t be surprised of Zer0 is impeached. That’;s not the hard part. The hard part is gaining conviction in the Senate. Impeachment is simply an indictment.

Heh. I should have wrote: “that skirmish in the South that was in all the papers.”
Actually, I come from the one state that truly epitomized the “brother shooting against brother” aspect of that hot mess, as well as the border slavery/underground railroad aspect, and the bloodiest day of the entire war. So I’ma stick with my classifyin’ on that one. (and you axed the other day if I lived in Nashville: no, that was just an example. But I am in Coal Country.)
And since it’s in my head at the moment, I urge every parent to make double damn sure they take their kids to walk a genuine battlefield before they send them out into the world. Kids need to learn about men who gutted out those times of pure hell on Earth and managed to wade into battle again when the next day came.
I will always remain in awe of every single one of them, from the young kid who never even realized what was going on and never had a chance, to the leaders who rode right into the thick of it with their men.
(Of course, after hanging around former enlisted men all my life, not so much the academy nancy boys that failed to lead at critical moments. But hey, they were there.)
May 21st, 2013 @ 8:11 pm
You’re entitled to your opinion. But, as an earlier incredibly corrupt President put it, “calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it a leg.” Lincoln’s war was a war of imperial conquest against another country fighting for its independence. The true classification is what I will stick with.
Kentucky wasn’t the only state that was brother vs Brother. That rump state known as West Virginia was in the same boat.
May 21st, 2013 @ 8:12 pm
The problem of the IRS could be solved by enactment of a flat tax. Better than 95% of the IRS would have absolutely nothing to do at that point.
May 22nd, 2013 @ 3:05 am
Indeed. War is hell.
