Doubling Down On Ehlinger’s Argument

by Smitty

Emphasis mine:

Quit wasting your time and the country’s time trolling Teh Algorez Internetz trying to find the next Presidential messiah. Figure out who your Reps are, figure out if they are worthy of your support or opposition. Your country needs them and you to focus on what’s important.
And no b.s. carping on how you’re in a deep blue district and it’s not possible to win. Fight collectivists where you live first before turning into a zealot over a primary contest on the other side of the country. Remember Barney Frank? Bielat fought the crap out of him in 2010. Sure, Barney won, but it was Bielat and the voters who were vindicated yesterday, when Frank declined to run in 2012.

Ladd stopped by for breakfast here in Northern Virginia a couple weeks back while driving homeward. The Eighth District of Virginia is pretty much George Washington’s back yard. And yet, in our era of Progressivism, the imperial Federal Government has resulted in ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran, he of the 90 stock swaps the day after the 2008 financial crisis briefing to Congress. How can any self respecting, legitimate American fail to support Patrick Murray, even in the face of the worst odds since Washington took on the British Army?

Go long. Go for incremental victories. I hope at the very least to see Ladd do an advertisement in support of Murray’s repeat campaign.
MORAN DELENDA EST. Support Patrick Murray:

‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran, Civil Servant

by Smitty

That is, for ‘Civil’ means ‘Selfish’, along with ‘Overlord’ values of ‘Servant’. Remember when your retirement investments did a face plant during the 2008 election season?

Here is a brief tidbit from Throw Them All Out by Peter Schweizer. Chapter 2. Crisis For All, Opportunity For Some (emphasis original)

On Tuesday, September 16, 2008, when Henry Paulson and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke held another of their terrifying closed-door meetings with congressional leaders (two days before the “ashen-faced” meeting), the stock market had dipped only a few percentage points, and most people assumed that the financial crisis was a disruption that would have just a limited effect on the broader economy. But what Paulson and Bernanke told lawmakers on September 16 made it clear that the public’s perception was wrong. Paulson, in his memoir, explains that during the meeting he outlined that the federal government was going to bail out the insurance giant AIG and that the markets were in deep trouble. “There was an almost surreal quality to the meeting,” he recounts. “The stunned lawmakers looked at us as if not quite believing what they were hearing.”

The next day, Congressman Jim Moran, Democrat of Virginia, a member of the Appropriations Committee, dumped his shares in ninety different companies. Moran is a former mayor and city councilman of Alexandria, Virginia. Earlier in his political career he had faced legal charges for casting a vote on the Alexandria City Council that helped a developer friend win a bid for a lucrative plot of land. Moran pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge and resigned. It did not stop his career. He was elected mayor in 1985, and to Congress shortly after. (It’s interesting to note that legal standards IN Virginia are apparently higher than those of the U.S. Congress. Had moran cast that same vote in Congress, there would be no cause for any charges.)

This post is reprises a post of a couple days back: ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran Appreciates Him Some Real Nice Assets, and offers some context. I’m about 1/4 through Schweitzers book. Also not looking too good so far are Princess Pelosi and Senator ‘Stuck in Iraq’ Kerry. We’ll see if my ‘good gentleman’ Congressman appears in any further heists.

Arguing Jim Moran’s end of things–wait while I put on my mean old, hard-drinking, condescending, Ruling Class Overlord hat–everything he has done is perfectly, strictly legal. Furthermore, ‘they’ probably did worse, and ‘anyone’ could have done the same, if they had clawed their way up to a senior Democrat leadership position. The rationalizations are classic, straightforward, and vanish in a puff of hatred when the voters ‘call’ a Moran on his tendency to ‘put’ the tire iron alongside the voter head.

I’ve been voting against ‘Gentleman’ Jim for the last five elections. 2012 will be the second round since realizing that there is a moral imperative to stand up against the kind of falsehood that Moran represents. Moran brings a particular flavor of evil to the job, as we live in the shadow of Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. It’s purely conter-factual to speculate how Washington would have reacted to Moran, but one would venture something involving a musket with a fixed bayonet would occur. Help Virginia relieve the Congress of ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran. Support Patrick Murray.

Patrick Murray Delivers The Best News I’ve Had All Week

by Smitty

As hoped, Patrick Murray rides again, in the effort to Retire ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran. From his 10 November email announcement:

Today I’m announcing my candidacy for US Congress in the 8th Congressional District of Virginia. This decision to run for a second time took much soul-searching, thought and prayer. Campaigns are a crucible, but, just as with my military service, this is a matter of duty for me. If I thought our nation was on the right track, that we had leaders who were governing with the Constitution and our children in mind, that we were secure and prosperous, then I would happily pursue other goals.

Also:

In 2010 when I ran, I started at ground zero, freshly out of the Army with no campaign experience, no name recognition and only a handful of supporters. Well, I’m very proud of what we accomplished; over 72,000 people voted for me, we raised a substantial amount of money, and we had legions of energetic volunteers out knocking doors, making phone calls, putting out signs and stuffing envelopes. Now we have that firm foundation to stand upon, and redistricting should also help our side. Combine all of that with Party backing and a dynamic, professional campaign team with national experience and a solid record of winning difficult races in tough Districts and we are light years ahead of where we were last time.

Now, VA-8 has got to be among the toughest districts in the country. ‘Gentleman’ Jim is not only among the senior Democrat wealth redistributors, but the district itself is infested by a high concentration of senior federal bureaucrats who

  • know on which side their bread is buttered, and
  • know that the butter in question was re-distributed from a cow in mooing in a distant pasture.

Homo bureaucratus, while typically a beta (fe)male, and rarely given to anything that could be mistaken for personal courage, can be seen gathering in vast, neck-tie wearing herds for acts of passive aggression against the private sector. Like supporting Moran.

Thus, it is crucial for all right-thinking, traditional Americans to rally around candidates of the caliber of Murray. Even those living in Princess Nancy Pelosi’s, or Princess Barney Franks’s districts need to support viable candidates, and make the Democrat cretins feel the heat. This has the effect of tying up resources, and indirectly supporting American candidates in other districts.

Anybody can wax enthusiastic when the going is easy. However, the recovery from Progressivism is only in its early stages. So this blog rejoices in having a courageous leader like Murray to support. Hopefully we’ll do a better job of getting Ladd Ehlinger on scene to liven up matters this time around.

Update: linked at Zilla of the Resistance. Indeed, happy Veteran’s Day. Want to make a Vet happy? Help drive the Commies out of our government.

Update II: ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran, who famously doesn’t think military people are public servants still wants the military to think that he holds them in some esteem:

Today we recognize our nation’s veterans, the men and women who have given their time, risked their safety, and in some cases lost their lives in service to our country. Regardless of your position on past and present military operations, we owe a great deal of thanks to those willing to put on the uniform of the United States Military.

If you would really like to thank a veteran, ‘Gentleman’ Jim, what you can do is retire. About the only thing more important than separating you from levers of power, Mr. Moran, is ousting your buddy, #OccupyResoluteDesk.

Update III: via Insty, Kimberley Strassel has more good news about the Virginia political scene.

Update IV: Formal armistice with Paco, and concurrence on the Murray candidacy. My point on the fashion habits of homo bureaucratus seems to stand.

Update V: Now a Memeorandum thread.

Virginia Is For Election Lovers

by Smitty

This morning I attended a Fairfax County GOP Veterans breakfast. The state’s rock star Attorney General was there, as a featured speaker. He kept the chat local, and election-focused, not addressing ObamaCare at all. Mingling later, it sounded as though VA’s case may get mixed in with the rest, argued early next year before the SCOTUS, with a possible decision in the June time frame. I gathered that was all speculative, and readers of this blog will know that my prediction-fu is weak.

Virginia elections matter, coming as they do on off years, and with VA being a designated ‘battleground’ state, according to the MSM. I can safely predict that, in the case of a Lefty triumph, VA’s battleground status will suddenly be huge; if the GOP reclaims the VA Senate: crickets. A handful of VA Senate candidates were present, for example, the fabulous Gerarda Culipher for the 34sth District: My district, 30, features Tim McGhee, an admirable chap whom I’ll happily support. Turning the VA Senate red will be helpful in building momentum for next year’s elections.

Also speaking at this morning’s breakfast was Congressman Frank Wolf, who sounded the alarm concerning China, and the question of whether the 21st Century would be an American century or no, and then tied his remarks back to the humble local elections, where ‘just folks’ do the grunt work of making an election happen, serving in local and state offices and such. Things at which Tea Party conservatives, e.g. me, have kind of sucked. At the DC level, it was good to see Patrick Murray again, and while I didn’t explicitly hear Murray say that he’d be giving “Gentleman” Jim Moran more bad dreams in 2012, another run for VA-8 hung in the air like two dots awaiting connection. Curiously absent was Keith Fimian, who lost to Gerry Connolly in VA-11 by the slenderest of margins in 2010. Connolly will join Moran in having a retired Army O6 breathing down his neck, as Chris Perkins brings the heat. Good times.

So, yes, we like us some elections in Virginia. This state provided a hefty chunk of the brain trust that founded the country all those years ago, as we crawled out from under the British thumb. It’s only logical that Virginia show leadership as we crawl out from under the Progressive thumb.

Finally, let this post encourage you to keep doing whatever it is you do to improve the political landscape in the country. Progressivism is a kidney stone which we are going to pass, not without some pain, but after which our future will improve. Or my name isn’t Phineas J. Whoopie.

Best VA Political Week Of The Year

by Smitty

I know CPAC is at full roar, while I sit out in the cold, where I can catch enough bandwidth for a post.

What a week in VA news. Cuccinelli tilting the SCOTUS windmill-style for the ObamaCare case. VMI looking really creepy over Islam. And then ol’ “Born Fightin'” Webb decides that fighting for the wrong team is no’ so fun.

But what’s this at Virginia Virtucon? A Daft Jim Moran for Senate site? Get the fertilizer out of here, as they say. Cracking good idea, that. Here is a menu of 10 campaign slogans:

  1. “No one in Virginia knows public service like I do, especially not Patrick Murray.”
  2. “Like I told that Arab network, raaaaacism is a problem in the US, but I know how to solve it.”
  3. “The economy is recovering, and I will continue to exercise the 1st Amendment non-sensically until the statement becomes true.”
  4. “I greatly fear that redistricting is going to bring yet more voters to VA-8 who are not on the take from my various patronage schemes.”
  5. “Harry Reid said that if I win he would protect me from Jason Mattera.”
  6. “Corporations make too much money, and I can be instrumental in fair redistribution. Just ask me.”
  7. “PMA scandal? What PMA scandal? Old news.”
  8. “Oh, that vast office building on 395 that brought in all the jobs and really tubed the traffic? Amazingly, that’s Dick Cheney’s fault.”
  9. “If I run for the Senate and lose to Allen, that’s a less humiliating drubbing than the one I know will come in 2012 from Murray.”
  10. “They say I look and sound Kennedy-esque.”

On Supporting Long-Shot Candidates

by Smitty

I’ve not the slightest misgiving about supporting my local candidate, Col. Patrick Murray (USA-Ret), against Jim Moran, who enjoyed one of the more comfortable margins yesterday evening.

  1. Murray is an exemplary American.
  2. One might say otherwise of Jim Moran.
  3. If you’re not in the game, your loss is self-fulfilling.
  4. It was genuinely fun.
  5. Absolutely no incumbent of any party is so immaculate that they deserve to run unopposed. Allowing VA-8 to be referred to as “Moran’s seat” (NBC-4) is offensive.
  6. Moran’s margin was decreased over 2008, albeit not by as much as I’d like to have seen.
  7. Victory in 2012 may be predicated upon a 2008 foundation. Given a heuristic problem, saying “It’s too hard” and chickening out marks you a liberal. I’ve not the slightest clue whether Destiny will have Murray run again in 2012, but I hope that the redistricting and lessons learned from this outing, plus the recovery time, will support another outing.
  8. From a leadership-by-example standpoint, it’s hypocritical to encourage others to be engaged and expend time and treasure supporting candidates, and then fail to support my locals.
  9. Tying down opposition resources locally prevents the opposition from spreading those resources around. They need to be disabused of the notion of “safe seats”.

Double down, conservatives. The internet promises to decrease the likelihood of the Tea Party enthusiasm being rolled back into the GOP a la the Perot enthusiasm of ’92. If you’re going to get back on the GOP reservation, and accept another Dole or J.S. McCain in 2012, then forget everything earlier in this post and welcome to Venezuela. But I don’t think that threat credible. The Tea Party toothpaste will refuse re-toobing.

Update: Mattie Fein has approved this message. Fortune smile upon you, lady, and the groovy 1/3 of your district.

Mattie Fein, a firm believer in denying the opposition respite.

(Among The) First Vote Post(s)!

I’ve been waiting for this moment for

Two. . .Miserable. . .YEARS!

</kinison>

Lots of people with their soundtrack cut for today’s election. Picking up the question from the Democrat perspective; as well as the need to capture the Wave Election moment; and the need to get the Led out of every conservative butt today and vote, wake up your whole verrückt neighborhood with the Bonham beat, as we drum these jerks the heck on out of here:

To the pasture with you, Jim Moran.

A ‘well played’ to The Camp of the Saints, especially in light of the POTUS’s recent inarticulate remark about punishing enemies.

Here is some fresh joy from Trifecta:

Let me say something you haven’t heard elsewhere: maximal heat in all of the toughest districts, like VA-8, is a downpayment on victory in 2012. The incumbent may hold onto his seat, claw marks and all. Short of outright victory, leaving them so shattered that they spend two years planning retirement is a worthy achievement.

Updated: not to come off like a groupie or anything, but I did happen to be supporting my candidate at my polling spot when he came by:
