Democrat Ex-Sen. David Boren Accused of Being Creepy Old Gay Closet Case

The accusation:

A former University of Oklahoma student alleges he was touched and kissed inappropriately by former university President David Boren on several occasions almost a decade ago when the man worked as a teaching aide for the onetime governor and senator.
The allegations by Jess Eddy, now 29, appear to be at the center of an investigation being conducted for the university by Jones Day, one of the world’s largest law firms, into whether Boren sexually harassed male subordinates. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has also opened an investigation.
Boren, now 77, has denied any inappropriate conduct in statements released by his attorneys, who have confirmed the Jones Day investigation. Boren was a Democratic governor in the 1970s before serving in the U.S. Senate for more than 15 years. He was OU president from 1994 until stepping down last year and has been married to his second wife for more than 40 years. . . .
Eddy said he came to know Boren after taking a political science course the president taught. Boren asked him to be his teaching aide the following semester, in the fall of 2010, when Eddy was 21.
That fall, he said, he accompanied Boren on a weekend fundraising-and-recruiting trip to Houston, where he flew on a private jet with Boren and attended a dinner with donors. He said he and Boren ended up in Boren’s hotel room, where the two of them drank alcohol and Boren made an unwanted sexual advance and touched him inappropriately before he left the room.

(Hat-tip: Instapundit.) To accuse an old man of making an “unwanted sexual advance” is redundant, because any sexual advance made by an old man is “unwanted.” The number of people — male or female — who want to have sex with David Boren is exactly zero. Certainly there was no reason for him to imagine that his sexual advances toward a 21-year-old college boy would be welcome. Rumors about Boren’s sexuality have circulated for decades; during his 1978 Senate campaign, he quite literally swore on a Bible that he was not gay. This latest accusation is perhaps not completely surprising, and the question is whether it will trigger a #MeToo avalanche of accusations by other men with whom Boren has been intimate, “unwanted” or otherwise. And I suppose some people will blame this situation on “homophobia,” arguing that if it weren’t for the repressive and intolerant forces of hate, David Boren never would have been forced to conceal his attraction to men, blah blah blah.

Except that’s actually irrelevant. Society never forced Joe Biden to conceal his heterosexuality, and yet Biden is now having a #MeToo moment because he was too stupid to realize that the number of women who want to be groped by an old politician is exactly zero. And having seen photos of David Boren in the 1970s, I’m not sure that anyone — male or female — ever found him sexually attractive. Maybe when Boren was in his 20s or 30s, he could have scored with a college guy, but probably not. However, if he did, it would have been easy for Boren to keep it secret, because no guy would ever want to admit that publicly.

Anyway, the point is, whether you’re gay or straight, at some point you’ll be so old nobody even wants to think about your sexuality. The mental image of being groped by a creep like David Boren? Yuck.



 

Alabama vs. Oklahoma Tonight

Did you know that tonight’s national championship semifinal between Alabama and Oklahoma will match the two best quarterbacks in the country?

Seldom do a Heisman winner and his runner-up meet after the winner is crowned. Even given that rarity, this may be the best postseason clash of college quarterbacks we’ve ever seen. Both are coming off of historic regular seasons, with each in line to trump the record for Total Quarterback Rating, which ESPN has tracked since 2004 and is measured on a scale of 0 to 100. . . .
“Kyler Murray has accomplished more in one season and had more impact on the Sooners’ tradition in one season than any other player in our history,” former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer told The Athletic. “He’s broke all the damn records.” . . .
At the same time, [Tua] Tagovailoa has been the figurehead of the Tide’s offensive ascension since replacing Jalen Hurts in last season’s national championship game. Saban has been in Tuscaloosa since 2007, and this year’s offense has been his best in terms of, well, everything.

Alabama has produced an average of 527.6 yards and 43.9 points per game. The big question tonight is Tagovailoa’s ankle:

Alabama sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said his injured left ankle, which required a minor surgical procedure to repair four weeks ago, is at about “80 to 85 percent” as the top-ranked Crimson Tide prepares for Saturday’s Orange Bowl national semifinal against No. 4 Oklahoma.
The sophomore provided the update Wednesday at the first media availability for the Crimson Tide since arriving in South Florida. He said he was continuing to undergo rehabilitation in hopes of recovering fully from the injury he sustained against Georgia in the SEC championship game. . . .
“Tua’s been able to practice and get all the reps that he’s needed to get,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said Monday. “It’ll be interesting to see after having a few days off, with the additional rehab, how that impacts his ability to get closer to 100 percent.”

Playing against the Heisman Trophy winner less than a month after ankle surgery? No big deal. Just another game. Roll Tide.

The Rocky Horror Middle School Show

The town of Achille, Oklahoma, has a population of less than 500. For unknown reasons, a woman who is raising her son to believe he’s a girl decided that this tiny community in rural Bryan County was where they needed to live. Problems inevitably ensued:

Several law enforcement agencies have stepped in after parents made threats to harm a 12-year-old Achille Public Schools student on social media last week.
12-year-old Achille Schools transgender student Maddie’s mother Brandy Rose says her family moved to Achille from Sherman when Maddie was in 5th grade.
“She’s been living as female for years — she started at Achille as Maddie,” Rose said. “We had no problems when we first started.”
Trouble started when Maddie was accused by another student peeping under a bathroom stall.
“My daughter leans very far forward to use the bathroom,” Rose explained. “I can understand why someone seeing her lean forward would think, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s trying to look under.'”
Maddie didn’t get in trouble, but started using the staff bathroom, and had been doing that for the past two years.
That is, until the first day of school Wednesday in the middle school they reopened.
“She hadn’t been told where the staff bathroom was. Before she was able to be told, she had to pee, so she used the girls bathroom one single time.”
One parent found out, and took to a private Achille Facebook group to complain.
That’s where the threats started. Adults called Maddie by “it” and “thing.” Some said she should be stabbed or beat up. One even suggested it was open hunting season for transgender people.
“That’s a threat against her life — that’s scary,” Rose said. “These are adults making threats — I don’t understand it.”
Rose said her usually upbeat and positive daughter is afraid for her life.
“She’s an awesome kid. To see any fear in her,I can’t explain how bad that hurts me for them to hurt her.”
As a precaution, the Bryan County Sheriff suggested closing campus Monday and Tuesday. . . .
The sheriff said the mother filed a protective order against one parent but no other arrests have been made, however several agencies including the FBI are stepping in to see if any comments constitute a hate crime.

Adults making violent threats against a 12-year-old is bad and wrong. Parents teaching their children to be perverts is also bad and wrong.

Oklahoma Police: Meth Mom Molested Her Kids While People Paid to Watch

Natalie Lynn Webb, 30, of Elk City, Oklahoma, is being held on $2 million bond after her arrest last month on sex abuse charges:

Webb’s 9-year-old son told investigators that his 8-year-old brother and two 3-year-old sisters were repeatedly raped by their mother as other men and women looked on, according to the [Dec. 18 affidavit]. The boy told police that he saw his sisters resist as their mother dragged them into a room, then he could hear his sisters screaming and crying. Police also wrote that the boy told them he saw his mother using a foreign object in the abuse and that people may have paid his mother to watch the abuse.
One of Webb’s 3-year-old daughters corroborated her brother’s interview, telling investigators that it felt “nasty” when she was being molested, according to the affidavit. The 9-year-old said he also saw his brother being abused, but was able to avoid being sexually abused himself by running and hiding in a dumpster. In interviews with police, Webb denied sexually molesting her children. . . .
Webb told authorities that she often took methamphetamine and sold it out of her house; the 9-year-old described seeing needles around the house.
Webb admitted to authorities that she sometimes traded her food stamps for meth. During past interviews included in the affidavit, she demanded to take a polygraph test to prove that she had not sexually molested her children. In late November, Webb told officer Steve Bonds, of the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, that she did not want to talk with the polygraph examiner after the examiner told her she failed the test. . . .
According to the affidavit, Webb has past felony convictions for child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanor convictions of unlawful possession of paraphernalia, bogus checks and unauthorized use of a credit card.

Just a meth-addicted mother raping her own children for drug money. Nothing to see here. Move along.

When Instpundit linked the story yesterday and I Tweeted it as the “feel-good story of the year,” some people evidently got the mistaken idea that I was being sarcastic, which I wasn’t. When a 12-year-old girl shoots a burglar, that’s good news:

BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. — A 12-year-old girl did what she had to do to protect herself from an intruder in her home on the Texas border.
She hid in a closet and shot him when he tried to open the door.

Here’s the 911 call Kendra made:

The suspect, 32-year-old Stacey Adam Jones, was apparently a very bad guy. He had been a suspect in the case of a missing girl a year earlier.

What I had in mind, in calling this the “feel-good story of the year,” was something that David Gelernter observed in his 1997 book, Drawing Life: Surviving the Unabomber. While doing some historical research, Gelernter came across a photo caption in a magazine from the 1930s, showing police with the bodies of two robbers the cops had shot dead in an ambush, a feat that the caption writer called a “neat trick.”

We don’t see that attitude much among journalists nowadays, Gelernter remarked, because journalism is a profession that has been taken over by intellectuals, and intellectuals have had their heads stuffed so full of ACLU rhetoric about police brutality and the “rights” of criminals that it’s impossible for them to believe that (a) criminals are bad people and therefore (b) it’s a good thing for criminals to get shot.

A few years ago, my younger brother shot a knife-wielding crackhead who broke into his house. The intruder was undeterred by the barking dog and failed to heed my brother’s warning, so he was dispatched with a blast of 12-gauge buckshot. My kids still laugh at the laconic matter-of-fact way my brother described the incident. What happened? “I shot him.” Did you kill him? “Yep.”

Crackhead with knife. Homeowner with shotgun. Neat trick.

Americans used to think that way, and the intellectuals who have tried to teach us to think otherwise — to view criminals as “victims of society” — should be regarded as accomplices to crime.

Law-abiding citizens have the right to armed self-defense, and anyone who advocates the infringement of that right is a bad person.

My friend Robert Waters wrote two books I highly recommend: The Best Defense: True Stories of Intended Victims Who Defended Themselves with a Firearm and Guns Save Lives: True Stories of Americans Defending Their Lives With Firearms. You have to wonder why nobody in Hollywood has thought to turn those true stories into a movie, or at least a cable TV series, but of course the intellectuals have taken over Hollywood, too. That’s the only possible explanation for why you haven’t heard more about the story of Kendra St. Clair.

Closet-Case Democratic Party Official Infected Ex-Girlfriend With AIDS Virus?

Last week, we noted that Jay Parmley, who was forced to resign as executive director of the North Carolina Democratic Party after being accused of sexually harassing a 26-year-old male staffer, had claimed to be the victim of “right-wing political enemies.”

Alas, it appears that the real victim was a young Oklahoma woman who says Parmley infected her with the AIDS virus:

Parmley’s ex-girlfriend Rebecca Burgin told TheDC that Parmley forever changed her life by making her HIV-positive. She’s worried, she said, that Parmley may have done to someone else what he did to her.
“My motivation for talking to you was that I have read the articles, I have read the letter [that Ortega sent to Parmley detailing sexual harassment allegations] and everything like that,” Burgin said.
“And after Jay and I broke up, the biggest concern that I had was, ‘what if this happened to somebody else? Would he do this to someone else?’ … My biggest concern is for anybody else that has had a relationship with him that he did not tell.” . . .
“When Jay and I met, I was 20 and he was 32,” she said. “To me, it seems to be a pattern, potentially… The unnerving thing to me is that it looks like he uses his position of authority to prey on younger adults.” . . .
Parmley served as national president of the Young Democrats of America from 1999 to 2001, then becoming executive director and chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party until 2005. . . .
In 2005 he left Oklahoma to become a Mississippi state liaison to the Democratic National Committee under chairman Howard Dean, during the former Vermont governor’s 50-state strategy campaign. He took a similar role in South Carolina in 2007, and became executive director of the South Carolina Democratic Party in 2009. In May 2011, the North Carolina Democratic Party hired him as its executive director. . . .
“I met him — I was a student in college and he was my American Government professor,” she told TheDC in a phone interview. “Upon completing that class, we started dating. We dated for a little over three years.” . . .
Around October 2006, after more than 14 months of a long-distance relationship, Parmley became “debilitating[ly] sick” in Mississippi, she said.
Former Mississippi Democratic Party chairman Rickey Cole told TheDC that he and his wife took Parmley to the hospital “because he had lost a great deal of weight and couldn’t keep anything in his stomach.”
And then came Thanksgiving, when Burgin said she was hit with the news that would change her life forever.
“He had called my parents and asked them that they call me and have me come over,” Burgin said, “and that I needed to call him. And so I called him, and it was at that point that he told me the doctors had tested him for HIV. And that he was HIV positive. And that I needed to be tested.” . . .

Notice that Parmley was employed at the top levels of the Democratic Party — as national director of Young Democrats, in Oklahoma, Mississippi, South Carolina and North Carolina — for more than a dozen years before his sexual predations were publicly exposed.

Indeed, according to Burgin’s account, top Democratic officials knew Parmley was HIV-positive more than five years ago, which might have been seen as a huge clue that Parmley was up to no good.

Of course, such an interpretation — that AIDS infection might be evidence of dangerous proclivities — could be seen as “discrimination,” and Democrats consider discrimination a greater danger than an incurable sexually-transmitted disease. And remember that when Parmley was accused of sexually harassing a 26-year-old male aide, North Carolina Democratic Party officials tried to cover it up with a financial settlement, even though Parmley’s high-risk behavior had already victimized at least one other young person. Also remember, as Ed Morrissey says, to keep Rebecca Burgin in your prayers.

 

Palin Helps Romney Win Alaska

WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania
Mitt Romney has a powerful ally in his effort to win the Republican nomination: Sarah Palin, who told a Fox News reporter last night that she voted for Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich got 1,834 votes in the Alaska caucuses, giving the former House Speaker 14.2% of the vote, good for a fourth-place finish behind third-place finisher Ron Paul (3,105 votes, 24%), runner-up Rick Santorum (3,762 votes, 29%) and winner Romney (4,225, 32.6%).

Gingrich also placed fourth Tuesday in caucuses in North Dakota (962 votes, 8.5%) and Idaho (940 votes, 2.1%), and the primaries in Vermont (4,608 votes, 8.1%) and Massachusetts (16,756 votes, 4.6%). Gingrich placed third in Ohio (14.6%), Tennessee (24%), and Oklahoma (27.5%).

Gingrich’s vote total in Alaska was more than four times as large as Romney’s 463-vote margin over Santorum. In Ohio, Gingrich’s third-place total (175,375) was 16.7 times larger than Romney’s 10,508-vote margin over Santorum.

In related news, Texas Gov. Rick Perry — who quit the presidential race Jan. 19 and endorsed Gingrich — was still on the ballot in Ohio, as was former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who dropped out Jan. 16 and endorsed Romney. Between them, Perry and Huntsman got 13,843 votes in Tuesday’s Ohio primary.

UPDATE: This post seems to have stirred some anger from people who think that my summary of Neutral Objective Facts was intended as a personal disparagement of Sarah Palin.

Of course, I would have enthusiastically supported Governor Palin, had she seen fit to run for president — see my coverage of her Labor Day speech in New Hampshire — but she decided against it. Another source of anger about this post was expressed by my young friend Jamie:

How come you hate Newt so much?

I replied in the comments, but given the rage reaction this post seems to have provoked, I’ll quote my reply here:

I don’t “hate” him, Jamie. But as a presidential candidate, Newt is utterly implausible. There is simply no way in hell a twice-divorced Republican, married to his former mistress — with whom he had an extramarital affair in the midst of the Clinton impeachment scandal — is going to be elected president of the United States.
Not going to happen. Period.
Gingrich’s rhetorical skills are admirable, but his biography makes him unelectable. This is just the reality of politics, and people who would like to ignore Newt’s biography are simply deluded.
It’s not a matter of policy or ideology. I don’t accuse Newt or his supporters of being insufficiently conservative. They are, however, insufficiently realistic about what it takes to succeed in presidential politics, and their admiration for Newt the Great Debater is blinding them to the unavoidable obstacle to Gingrich’s candidacy. Newt is wasting time and money (and his supporters are wasting their votes) on a campaign that was doomed from the outset.
These are, I assert, Neutral Objective Facts. You may dispute the facts, but I guarantee you that Newt Gingrich will not win the GOP nomination.
Not this year. Not ever.

This is my summary of what is, rather than my personal opinion of what ought to be, and I understand that many people wish that Gingrich’s debate skills were sufficient to offset the liabilities of his biography, but they’re not.

It seems that the online world has become a place where we are so accustomed to people expressing opinions that we have become prone to regard simple statements of fact —e.g., “Newt Gingrich will never be elected president, nor nominated by the Republican Party for that office” — as if they were merely opinions, which might be argued out of existence.

Having supported a lot of long-shot underdogs over the years, I recognize why people might vote for a completely hopeless candidate like Newt. But when the hopelessness was so obvious before his campaign ever began, it ill behooves Newt’s supporters to disparage the motives of those who are guilty of no sin more grievous than stating Neutral Objective Facts.
