‘Trailer Trash’ and ‘Crazy Bitch’: Surrogate Mom Claims Abuse by Drewitt-Barlow
Posted on | August 30, 2016 | 1 Comment
When a San Diego woman agreed to be a surrogate mother for two gay Brazilian men who wanted to become fathers, she did not expect an ordeal that would leave her deeply in debt and mocked as “trailer trash” by the British millionaire whose agency brokered the surrogacy contract.
Megan Hoffner said she was left nearly $80,000 in debt, mainly from unpaid medical bills, after her dispute with the British Surrogacy Center, owned by millionaires Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow. In 2015, Hoffner told her story to the Sunday Mail of London, sharing emails in which Barrie Drewitt-Barlow called her “trailer trash,” “a crazy bitch who deserves to be locked up” and an “utterly selfish cow”:
Millionaire businessmen Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow present themselves as the poster boys of British surrogate parenting.
But for one surrogate the decision to work with their British Surrogacy Centre (BSC) has proved to be disastrous.
The Drewitt-Barlows were the first gay couple named on a surrogate baby’s birth certificate and went on to have four more children, set up their surrogacy agency and star in reality show The Parent Makers.
But 5,000 miles away in San Diego, Megan Hoffner claims she has been left £60,000 in debt, stands on the brink of losing her home and is embroiled in a legal fight which has taken her to the edge of financial ruin.
It is a complicated tale mired in claim and counter-claim from which no one emerges unscathed.
‘This whole process has been a disaster,’ she says.
‘The low point for me was going into hospital for an emergency Caesarean section and waking up to find nobody would tell me if the twins I was carrying were alive or dead. I still have nightmares and anxiety attacks to this day.’ . . .
Read the rest at the Sunday Mail. The Drewitt-Barlows were in the news again today when they appeared on a British TV program with their own now-16-year-old twins, Aspen and Saffron. Critics have called the commercial surrogacy industry a form of human trafficking:
That something is not quite right about surrogacy has been evident for some time. Ever since the commercial surrogacy industry kicked off in the late 1970s, it has been awash with scandals, exploitation and abuse. From the infamous “Baby M” case – in which the mother changed her mind and was forced, in tears, to hand over her baby – to the Japanese billionaire who ordered 16 children from different Thai clinics. There has been a total commodification of human life: click; choose race and eye colour; pay, then have your child delivered.
Then there’s the recent case of the American surrogate mother who died; or the intended parents who refused to accept a disabled child and tried to get their surrogate to abort; not to mention the baby factories in Asia.
Several countries have outlawed the womb-for-hire business.

Gay Couple Display Their Teen Children on British TV; Viewers Not Impressed

Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow with two of their surrogate babies.
Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow became famous in 1999 as the first British gay couple to become parents through surrogacy. The Drewitt-Barlows have made a fortune through their British Surrogacy Center (BSC), a controversial “rent-a-womb” business.
The BSC is part of the commercial surrogacy industry, which women’s rights groups have criticized as a form of human trafficking that exploits women in developing nations as human incubators to hatch designer babies for wealthy clients in Britain, the United States and Europe. Reuters reported in 2013 how embryos were created via IVF, using eggs and sperm harvested from the parents or from donors, then implanted in the wombs of surrogates hired in India for $6,500 to carry the babies to term. One clinic based in Mumbai “has produced 295 surrogate babies — 90 percent for overseas clients and 40 percent for same-sex couples — since it opened in 2007.” Since then, India has banned commercial surrogacy, as have Nepal and Thailand, but the industry has moved its operations to Cambodia and other countries in search of poor women to serve as hired baby-makers. Swedish feminist Kajsa Ekis Ekman has called surrogacy “reproductive prostitution.” A 2012 report from the European Center for Law and Justice condemned surrogacy as a “violation of human rights,” yet the Drewitt-Barlows and their lucrative baby business continue to be celebrated by many in British media.
In 2014, a British TV network launched The Parent Makers, a reality show about the Drewitt-Barlows and their business, featuring the couple’s five children, Saffron and Aspen, now 16, Orlando, 12, and Jasper and Dallas, 6 — all of whom were born to surrogate mothers in the United States.
This week, the Drewitt-Barlows have been on a P.R. blitz, with media features about the two oldest children who just turned 16, receiving such gifts as a Porsche and a Rolex watch for their birthdays. Today’s appearance on the British ITV network program This Morning, however, did not go so well, because viewers noticed the glum faces of the two teenagers who appeared with the couple they call “Dad” and “Daddy.”
They appeared on This Morning today to mark the teens’ 16th birthdays, but Aspen and Saffron did not look happy to be there.
Nasty trolls pointed out that the kids barely cracked a smile during the chat, and called them out via Twitter. . . .
One posted a picture of Saffron’s face, writing: “Smile? #ThisMorning” another added: “#thismorning the attitude on that 16 year old girl…”
A tweet added to the site stated: “Someone tell that 16 year old girl to crack a smile…” and it was followed by: “Those twins look so happy, the girl had a face like a smacked ass and the boy looks like he strangles cats…”
Several other trolls branded the twins “spoilt brats”, insisting their wealthy dads may have been overattentive while the kids were growing up.
One wrote: “Another batch of stupid parents trying to buy love from their equally stupid, ungrateful kids ???? #ThisMorning”
Another added: “Level headed? They seem like miserable spoilt little brats… @itvthismorning #thismorning.”
Viewers especially noticed daughter Saffron’s grim face with comments like, “She is so miserable looks like she wants to murder someone.”
The Drewitt-Barlows have been criticized as rich bullies. In 2013, the couple sued the Church of England demanding religious recognition of same-sex marriage. In 2014, when an Australian activist named Luke McKee criticized the Drewitt-Barlows’ baby business, he received an email in which Barrie Drewitt-Barlow boasted “my vast wealth and contacts will crush anyone” who opposed him.

ISIS Buried Thousands in Mass Graves
Posted on | August 30, 2016 | 1 Comment
The Associated Press reports that ISIS terrorists buried their victims in “mass graves . . . scattered across Iraq and Syria”:
In exclusive interviews, photos and research, The Associated Press has documented and mapped 72 of the mass graves, the most comprehensive survey so far, with many more expected to be uncovered as the Islamic State group’s territory shrinks. In Syria, AP has obtained locations for 17 mass graves, including one with the bodies of hundreds of members of a single tribe all but exterminated when IS extremists took over their region. For at least 16 of the Iraqi graves, most in territory too dangerous to excavate, officials do not even guess the number of dead. In others, the estimates are based on memories of traumatized survivors, Islamic State propaganda and what can be gleaned from a cursory look at the earth. Still, even the known victims buried are staggering — from 5,200 to more than 15,000.
(Via Memeorandum.) Gosh, it’s almost as if the “religion of peace” isn’t quite as peaceful as some people would have us believe.

Why Are Young Feminists So Angry?
Posted on | August 29, 2016 | Comments Off on Why Are Young Feminists So Angry?
Perhaps because so many young men are pathetic babies:
Young men are now nearly twice as likely as young women to live with their parents; 59 percent of guys ages 18 to 24 and 19 percent of 25-to-34-year-olds live at home. . . .
From 1960 to 2009, the number of working-age men with full-time jobs fell from 83 percent to 66 percent. . . .
Sociologists cite five “markers” or “milestones” that have traditionally defined our notion of adulthood: finishing school, moving away from the parental home, becoming financially independent, getting married, and having a child. In 1960, 65 percent of men had ticked off all five by age 30; by 2000, only a third had.
That’s from a 2012 Philadelphia Magazine article, which includes a profile of one typical Millennial specimen:
Connor, 24, graduated from Penn State in May of last year. It took him five years instead of four to finish his journalism degree, so he has about a hundred thou in student loans. . . .
The move from Happy Valley back to his childhood bedroom wasn’t entirely smooth. “My dad struggles to get it a little,” Connor says. “He’s an engineer. He went to a military academy. He had a wife and kid by the time he was my age.” . . .
When Connor was still in school, sometimes he’d encounter friends of his parents who’d press their business cards on him: “They’d say, ‘I’m in insurance — call me when you get out of school.’” Connor threw the cards away. He says he’d rather wait tables for the rest of his life than work in sales. Besides, he has a buddy from college who’s made it in L.A., in films. The buddy’s success validates Connor’s approach to life: “You have to have faith in your intangible abilities.”
The thing that gets me about this is, $100,000 in student loans to get a journalism degree at a state university? Are you kidding me?
In-state tuition at Penn State is $17,514 a year. OK, maybe Connor didn’t qualify for any scholarships or student aid, and Penn State is 170 miles from West Chester, which means Connor also had to pay for room and board, therefore . . .? DON’T GO TO PENN STATE, YOU IDIOT!
In-state tuition at West Chester University of Pennsylvania is only $9,144 a year, and you could commute from home and major in Communication Studies. Sure, this is not living the campus dream — football Saturdays, frat parties, etc. — but is that what you’re going to school for?
Piling up tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt to get a liberal arts degree is foolish. There is always a smarter alternative.
Middle-class kids need to learn to see through the status/prestige factor that makes them think they have to attend a big-name school. Let the rich parents send their kids to Harvard or Stanford, and stop thinking you must attend the most prestigious school that will admit you. Prestige ain’t going to pay the bills. Unless they’re throwing all kinds of scholarship money at you, scratch them off your list. Here’s an idea: Suppose you’re like Connor. You’ve got the grades and SAT scores to attend Penn State, but the money is a problem. What to do? Enroll at the nearest community college, make top grades, get your associates degree and then transfer to Penn State for your final two years. You’re saving yourself thousands of dollars. Isn’t that the smart thing to do? And you are smart, aren’t you?
Report: Hillary Aide Huma Abedin Dumps Husband After Latest Sexting Scandal
Posted on | August 29, 2016 | 1 Comment
As Ed Driscoll says, Drudge is having “plenty of fun” with this story. We mentioned earlier today that, for the third time, former Rep. Anthony Weiner has been caught in a “sexting” scandal, and this proved to be the straw that finally broke the camel’s back:
Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, announced today that she is separating from her husband, disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner.
The announcement comes in the wake of the latest allegations of Weiner sending lewd messages to a woman online which were revealed by The New York Post last night.
“After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy,” Abedin said in a statement released today.
Abedin, who is one of Hillary Clinton’s top aides, married Weiner in 2010 when he was a Democratic congressman representing a district in Queens, New York. Former President Bill Clinton officiated at their wedding.

Coach Reports Rape Accusation to Cops, Gets Fired for Violating University Policy
Posted on | August 29, 2016 | 1 Comment
Timothy Fader was wrestling coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2014 when he got a phone call from a woman who told him her daughter had been raped by one of UW-W’s potential wrestling recruits. Fader did what anyone would do — he called police to report the crime. And that’s how the coach got fired from his job, aaccording to a lawsuit Fader filed last week against the university:
According to the lawsuit, Fader immediately called cops at the mother’s request. Then he arranged to take the prospective wrestler to the Whitewater police station for an interview. The athlete denied any wrongdoing and was willing to speak to detectives, the complaint says.
The coach eventually learned that Whitewater cops declined to charge the man. But three weeks later, interim athletic director Amy Edmonds called Fader into her office and warned, “We could both lose our jobs over this,” court papers say.
The two met with then-Chancellor Richard Telfer, who allegedly told Fader he violated policy by failing to report the allegations to the university first.
“Someone in this room will have to explain this,” Telfer told Fader, the lawsuit says, before suspending him from the university.
In the months that followed, Fader said he was pressured to resign. The university then declined to renew his contract, and gave potential employers bad reviews, preventing him from landing another job, the complaint states.
Our education system is broken beyond hope of repair.
