Brief Note for @LeftIsRight4U: Why I Never Argue Politics With Liberals

My tendency toward vehement expression makes me ill-suited for discussions intended to convert people to my point of view. And, honestly, I consider such arguments a waste of time.

Democrats tend to be deficient in either knowledge or character. If their allegiance to Satan’s Own Party is a result of ignorance, they will either wise up, or they won’t. And if they are Democrats because of defects in their character — selfishness and dishonesty being the most common vices of liberals — then it’s good that they are Democrats. “Look over there, voters: A party crowded with liars and thieves.”

Bad causes attract bad people, and the economic platform of the Democrat Party is sufficient to make it a mooch-magnet, the political embodiment of Sloth and Greed: “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”

Honest and decent people abhor the encouragement of vice, and what else have Democrats done but campaign on the Seven Deadly Sins, which they rhetorically transform into “social justice”?

A liberal would cheerfully swallow a porcupine, if you called it “social justice,” but as the Nobel Prize economist Friedrich Hayek demonstrated, social justice is a mirage — a deceptive delusion, a phantom, a will-o’-th’-wisp, the elusive quarry of fools. Watching governments pursue this impossible goal, wrecking society in the name of Equality and Progress, one is reminded that when Thomas More wrote Utopia, he coined the title from Greek: “Nowhere.”

Liberalism leads us on the Road to Nowhere, because liberalism has no logical stopping point. Cede their every demand today, and tomorrow liberals will be back to demand more. One realizes eventually that anyone who cedes anything to liberals is rather like Chamberlain at Munich, supposing he had gained “peace for our time” by bargaining away the Sudetenland to Hitler.

Excuse the totalitarian analogy, but it well suits the case. Unable to excuse the (entirely predictable) failures of their policies, Democrats resort to the kind of scapegoating that is characteristic of totalitarianism. Their defenses of the ObamaCare disaster resemble nothing so much as Stalinists blaming the failure of a Five-Year Plan on Trotskyites, kulaks and saboteurs. Constantly accusing Republicans of mala fides — racism! sexism! homophobia! — is an inadequate substitute for sound policy, but Democrats don’t seem to care.

Envy of the rich, and a selfish craving for “free” benefits, are now apparently enough to organize an electoral majority in this country, so America is now Doomed Beyond All Hope of Redemption, as I said on Election Night. Ignorance and vice have finally triumphed over virtue and truth, and nowhere so much as among the young, who have no memory of the Soviet nightmare, nor of LBJ’s “Great Society” debacle, and who are too lazy to learn anything about the past.

So . . . I don’t argue about politics with liberals.

When I was a young Democrat (as I was until my mid-30s), no one could persuade me I was wrong. It wasn’t until I began to realize the truth, quite independently of any arguments made by any of my friends, that I began to resent my former foolishness.

I had been a chump, a mark, the kind of sucker who thinks he can break even if he plays just one more game of three-card monte.

Once I wised up, by God, I wised up. As I wrote five years ago:

“Bill Clinton, in my mind, had two great accomplishments
as president: He signed the Welfare Reform Act of 1996
and he made me an ex-Democrat.” 

Now, it happens that some liberal Democrats, including @LeftIsRight4U, share my contempt for the Axis of Assholes on Twitter who, on the one hand, have been cheerleading Neal Rauhauser’s online harassment of Brett Kimberlin’s enemies even while, on the other hand, harassing liberal Democrats active in the #UniteBlue project.

Because of this convergence — Rauhauser’s profound viciousness means that his enemies tend to accumulate — the #UniteBlue people now stand accused of being “fake” progressives because they happen to have a common enemy with some of us on the Right.

As I often say, however, “sociopath” is not a political philosophy, and the hateful dishonesty of those trying to destroy #UniteBlue is something anyone can and should despise, whatever their partisan or ideological allegiance. Bad causes attract bad people, and wherever Neal Rauhauser goes, evil is sure to follow. It is sad to see political passions become aroused to such a point that some people embrace the nihilism expressed by the radical slogan, “By Any Means Necessary.”

Start thinking like that, abandon decency and honor, and you will eventually disgrace whatever “cause” you hoped to advance. Good causes need never resort to dishonorable means, and how good could any “cause” be, if it is supported by the likes of Neal Rauhauser?

Contemporary discourse is hopeless because Democrats have cynically exploited irrational sentiments, taking advantage of the widespread ignorance of history — and economics and, for that matter, basic arithmetic — to convince naive idealists that the only reason the streets are not paved with gold and lined with money trees is because of those greedy racist Republican teabaggers.

In such an anti-intellectual climate, attempting to explain why Democrat policies are harmful is a waste of time. Anyone who was such a fool as to vote for Barack Obama twice is beyond reach of facts or reason. Had I the eloquence of Cicero, I could not persuade them.

Therefore, there is no danger that #UniteBlue will commit political treason (for so they are accused by the Rauhauser crew) by a mere tactical alliance with Rauhauser’s “right-wing” targets including myself. And if any of the #UniteBlue people turn into greedy racist Republican teabaggers, certainly no one could ever blame me.

Because I never argue about politics with liberals.

“Son, we live in a world that has elections, and that elections have to be guarded by men with principles. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Lefty? The Tea Party has a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom.

You weep for Progress, and you curse the Tea Party. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what the Tea Party knows. That Progress’s demise, while tragic, probably wasted lives. And the Tea Party’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves these United States.

You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at Burning Man, you want the Tea Party at that election, you need the Tea Party at that election.

The Tea Party uses words like honor, code, loyalty. It uses these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. The Tea Party has neither the time nor the inclination to explain itself to a citizen who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom the Tea Party strives to restore, and then rejects the Constitutional manner in which it’s provided.

It would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, it’s suggested you pick up a sign, and stand tall at a rally.

Either way, the Tea Party doesn’t give two hoots what you think you are entitled to.”

Atheist Sex Offenders Are Dangerous

Ohio sex offender James Maxie is a violent atheist.

Yes, I know what you’re probably thinking, but this is not about that. Actually, it’s about an anti-Christian criminal in Ohio:

A self-described militant atheist with a criminal past faces multiple charges after an attack on a pastor who, after his sermon, had asked the man’s girlfriend if she felt safe.
James Maxie, 28, of Springfield, Ohio, is charged with second-degree felonious assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest after an incident Sunday at The Bridge Community Church in North Hampton.
Police Chief Jarrod Campbell said in his 11 years with the department, he’s rarely dealt with “an incident this brutal.”
The Rev. Norman Hayes, 57, said he feared for his life and begged for the attack to stop. Hayes suffered a broken nose, bruises and three long cuts that required stitches across his face. . . .
Maxie and the girlfriend, who attends the church, approached Hayes after the service. She told police that Hayes asked her if Maxie was abusing her, and Maxie became furious, striking pastor several times in the face in the church hallway.
“He came from nowhere and hit me … and knocked me down, and then he got on top of me and just kept hitting me over and over,” Hayes said. . . .
The brutality of the beating in addition to the location are why police charged Maxie with a felony, Campbell said.
“Churches are somewhere where people go to worship their particular religion, and violence is usually the last thing you see,” he said.
Campbell is working with the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office to see if additional charges should be filed.
Maxie served two years in prison after being convicted of felonious assault. He’s also a convicted sex offender, charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in Clark County, and was sentenced to five years of probation, beginning in October 2008, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. In 2004, Maxie was charged with four counts of cruelty to animals in Springfield.
A self-described militant atheist, according to his Facebook page, a day before the assault Maxie shared a photo from another page titled, “I’m proud to be Atheist.” . . .

(Hat-tip: Comin’ to Gitcha on Twitter.) By the way, I was going to make the headline “Atheist Pedophiles Are Dangerous” because this dangerous criminal was convicted of sex with a minor. But as violent and creepy as this convicted felon is, maybe he isn’t as bad as that.

Bullies, Braggarts and Fools

The Brett Kimberlin Fan Club has spent the past several days doing an online Happy Dance about Kimberlin v. the Universe, et al. The laughable falsehood thereof (see the responses by Ken White at Popehat and Patrick Frey at Patterico) doesn’t stop the perjuring bomber’s fanboys from celebrating what they imagine will be the annihilation of Kimberlin’s targets. My co-defendant John Hoge replies to one such fool:

If by some chance either of the suits survives a motion to dismiss, Brett Kimberlin will have to answer a lot of questions during discovery, and he will provide discovery this time. Because if he doesn’t, that will be grounds for dismissal. So either each suit is dismissed, or Kimberlin is subject to discovery, or he ducks discovery again and each suit is dismissed.
Of course, I suspect that one or more of the defendants is either or both of the suits will have counterclaims, and they will likely multiply after discovery. Also, I suspect that one or more of the defendants in either or both of the suits will be adding parties as part of their counterclaims. . . .

Read the whole thing. That Kimberlin has admirers who rejoice in his deliberate evil is one of the most amazing things about this story.

Fools who boast that their hatefulness will be vindicated by the forthcoming courtroom success of  The World’s Worst Pro Se Litigant™ are likely to be disappointed. But they have already covered themselves in such shame, they care not about their further embarrassment.

Bill Schmalfeldt’s wicked enthusiasm for anal rape — does anyone need to be reminded why Schmalfeldt is persona non grata at Daily Kos? — is entirely consistent with his depraved sadistic appetite for threatening the innocent and deliberately defaming the honest.

So a week ago, when Schmalfeldt was advised that his attempts to overturn John Hoge’s peace order against him were likely to fail, Schmalfeldt arrogantly and obscenely mocked this wise advice, and thereby accidentally prophesied the ultimate outcome:

Schmalfeldt’s humiliation in last Wednesday’s court hearing — even his hero Brett Kimberlin reportedly laughed at Bill’s clumsy arguments — was a result of his own bad judgment, and the Monday rejection of Schmalfeldt’s appeal made his humiliation complete.

Yet if Schmalfeldt were capable of learning from his own failures, he would never have made himself such a pathetic laughingstock, and so now he has set his heart on the success of Kimberlin’s flimsy RICO claim. Not content with this failure-by-proxy plan, however, Schmalfeldt decided to threaten Ali Akbar’s family — bad move, Bill.

Last night, Schmalfeldt got what he wanted. He got my attention. Over 30 tweets in 30 minutes that were brought to my attention by people concerned with my physical safety.
Schmalfeldt has bragged about beating people in drunken rages, about his weapons and he has written about calling his family members to physically harm people.
He called my mother, someone who raised three boys all on her own, all while going to school and working full-time, a whore.

See, I don’t believe in suing people, and it’s not my habit to call the cops, when my lawful means of self-defense are entirely adequate. But other people may not feel the same way, and if Bill Schmalfeldt is determined to continue hatefully harassing the innocent, he may be taught a lesson that even such a fool as himself cannot ignore.

Like Kimberlin’s past acts of anti-free-speech thuggery, his tactics serve to remind people of the very facts he seeks to bury.
With the filing of this lawsuit, more people will learn that Brett Kimberlin was convicted for setting off numerous bombs, one of which blew off a man’s leg. More people will learn of his dishonest machinations to avoid paying a wrongful death judgment to the widow of the man whose leg Kimberlin blew off — a Vietnam veteran who survived the war, but could not survive the pain of the wounds Kimberlin inflicted. More people will learn that, when he set off those bombs in Speedway, police suspected him of complicity in the murder of a grandmother of a young preteen girl, with whom Kimberlin had had a relationship that many people (including the grandmother) considered inappropriate. . . .
Kimberlin’s actions are not rational — but then, “rational” is not a word you would typically use to describe a violent criminal sentenced to 50 years in prison for maiming a man with a bomb. . . .

Pro-Pedophile Author: ‘How Dare You Call Me a Pro-Pedophile Author?!’

James Kincaid is a University of Southern California professor emeritus who is the author of Child-Loving: The Erotic Child and Victorian Culture (1992) and Erotic Innocence: The Culture of Child Molesting (1998). When it was announced he would speak  in Toronto at an academic conference with the creepy title “Bodies at Play: Sexuality, Childhood and Classroom Life,” an understandable outrage erupted:

Dr. Charles McVety of the Institute for Canadian Values has written an open letter to Chris Alexander, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, asking that Kincaid be denied entry into the country. . . .
“On behalf of the 125,000 members of the Institute for Canadian Values and Canada Family Action, we request that the Minister refuse admission of Dr. James Kincaid to Canada for a lecture on October 19th, 2013 in Toronto,” Dr. McVety wrote.
“Dr. Kincaid is a well-known advocate for pedophilia, a criminal activity in Canada,” the letter states.

Is that description — “a well-known advocate for pedophilia” —  perhaps just a wee bit over-the-top? Does it fail to capture the complexity and sophistication of Kincaid’s nuanced arguments? Let’s read the publisher’s description of one of Kincaid’s books:

In Erotic Innocence James R. Kincaid explores contemporary America’s preoccupation with stories about the sexual abuse of children. Claiming that our culture has yet to come to terms with the bungled legacy of Victorian sexuality, Kincaid examines how children and images of youth are idealized, fetishized, and eroticized in everyday culture. Evoking the cyclic elements of Gothic narrative, he thoughtfully and convincingly concludes that the only way to break this cycle is to acknowledge—and confront—not only the sensuality of children but the eroticism loaded onto them.

Uh, really, Doc? Your beef with “contemporary America” is that we are too worried about “sexual abuse,” and so we need “to acknowledge . . . the sensuality of children” and their “eroticism”? And while we’re at it, why don’t we take a look at the cover of your book?

Nothing weird there. Nothing out of the ordinary. Move along.

Despite the protests, Professor Kincaid spoke Saturday in Toronto:

A controversial U.S. professor who writes about children and sexuality shot down his critics Saturday by declaring that he is not an advocate for pedophilia.
Dr. James Kincaid, standing with his wife, Nita, at the University of Toronto, defended himself following his keynote address about children and sexuality.
“I’ve already said I’m not in favour of pedophilia. Period. Isn’t that enough?” he firmly told Linda Beaudoin, a sexual abuse survivor and advocate for children’s rights after she challenged him following his address. . . .
Kincaid told the Star he doesn’t think it’s a matter of rounding up “a few freaks and a few pedophiles and horrible monsters who regard young people as attractive.”
He said the real problem is that in the United States there is enormous attention paid to stranger kidnappings of children that draws the focus away from a higher incidence of children who are physically or emotionally abused.
Earlier, he told his audience that Canada is more enlightened than the U.S., where the public requires a steady diet of “predator kidnappers, Internet stalkers of youth, kiddie porn rings and such fantasies to maintain national identity.”
Of Internet predators, he added, “we are given to believe that they are legion, but the hard evidence is small.”

So, “the hard evidence is small,” Professor Kincaid?

That’s just a brief sample of headlines today. Do your own Google News search. There is certainly no shortage of evidence to contradict Professor Kincaid’s claim that the danger is insignificant.

But perhaps Professor Kincaid doesn’t Google . . . for news.

Is there any reason to believe that Professor Kincaid’s writings about “erotic” children are less than objective?

Would it be a mistake to suspect that Professor Kincaid’s interest in child sexuality is not entirely academic?

Far be it from me to insinuate any such thing.

However, when somebody writes books telling parents not to worry about perverts and predators, insisting that the danger is exaggerated, while every day’s headlines show the danger is very real . . .

Well, two lawsuits at a time, I guess.
