California: The Amnesty State

Democrat-run California has passed a law that effectively prohibits cops from turning over illegal aliens to federal immigration officials, Michelle Malkin reports. Gov. Jerry Brown: “While Washington waffles on immigration, California’s forging ahead. I’m not waiting.”
Not a Hate Crime, Investigators Say

Racial hatred does not appear to be the motive for the weekend stabbing of 20-year-old Army Spec. Tevin Geike, authorities in Washington State said Monday after making five arrests:
Authorities investigating the stabbing death of a Washington-based soldier said Monday they have arrested three other soldiers who serve at the same military installation.
The Lakewood Police Department said all five suspects in the stabbing of Tevin Geike are soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. At least two of the five suspects in the case are cooperating with law enforcement, authorities said.
One of the suspects, Jeremiah Hill, had asked for first aid Saturday for a knife wound on his right hand, according to police. Authorities said another soldier stated that Hill said he cut his hand when stabbing a guy to death over the weekend.
Police described Hill, 23, as the “main suspect” in the case and said he did not make a statement and asked for a lawyer. Cedarium Johnson, 21, and Ajoni Runnion-Bareford, 21, were also booked into the Pierce County Jail on Monday morning, according to Lakewood police.
Detectives had been investigating whether the stabbing was racially motivated — and potentially a hate crime — but said Monday after interviewing those involved that it does not appear that race was a factor.
Stabbed to death by a fellow soldier? Awful.

Dueling Meltdowns: Bill Schmalfeldt and #FreeKate’s Disgusting Supporters

Today, two different Bill Schmalfeldt accounts got banned from Twitter — he still doesn’t understand why being a “Team Kimberlin” member is a losing proposition — and while that was happening, there was news on the Kaitlyn Hunt story. First, Matt Philbin of the Culture and Media Institute examined ABC’s 20/20 segment:
[Matt] Gutman’s report was a masterpiece of advocacy masquerading as journalism. He breathlessly recounted Hunt’s original arrest, saying Indian River police “set a trap” for Kaitlyn. Then, “In an interrogation room, Kaitlyn is questioned, asked about intimate details most people wouldn’t want to discuss with their best friend, never mind a police officer.” Of course, people who enjoy having sex with kids in public lavatories may not be quite so fastidious about intimate details, but never mind.
Interviewing Kaitlyn, Gutman hammered her with such tough questions as, “Did you love her?”; “What does it feel like to become this icon of the gay community?”; and “I wonder if you feel that you made a mistake here? Did you do anything wrong?” (She doesn’t think so.) And he teased out such bombshell revelations as, “I felt like my senior year was, like, ruined.”
Read the whole thing. Meanwhile, shockingly, Hunt’s deranged supporters are busy lashing out at famed crime-fighter John Walsh:

Exhibit A: ‘Team Kimberlin’
Posted on | October 7, 2013 | 63 Comments
“Robert Stacy McCain never acknowledges errors or mistakes. For example, in May of 2012 he claimed to have left his home in Maryland for fear of Brett Kimberlin. But this week, Kimberlin’s process server found him at the same address where he lived last May.”
— “Xenophon,” BreitbartUnmasked.com, Sept. 20, 2013
As I explained yesterday, I didn’t blog much over the weekend because I was researching my defense against one of the accusations in the Kimberlin v. Walker, et al., lawsuit:
4. Defendants falsely wrote that other targets of theirs were part of “Team Kimberlin” and published that Plaintiff controlled, paid, and directed this vast network of “unsavory” operatives.
Proving the existence of Team Kimberlin will not be difficult, but fresh evidence is always welcome. A week ago, after I replied to a Twitter message from Ali Akbar, the “Breitbart Unmasked” Twitter account (clearly associated with Team Kimberlin) decided to taunt me, in an apparent show of support for fellow Team Kimberlin member Bill Schmalfeldt. Sunday, I noticed that “Breitbart Unmasked” hadn’t sent any further Twitter messages to Schmalfeldt. So I poked, and this morning “Breitbart Unmasked” responded:
So, Bill Schmalfeldt helpfully reveals, he has “regular phone conversations” with his fellow member of Team Kimberlin, which certainly would help to explain a situation I raised again Sunday:
Friday, I pointed out that Bill Schmalfeldt has claimed direct knowledge of Brett Kimberlin’s legal actions against myself and my co-defendants, joining his fellow Team Kimberlin members in premature celebration of their own imagined future vindication.
Bill Schmalfeldt claimed to know that Kimberlin served me with notice of his lawsuit in Maryland, but I don’t live in Maryland, and have not lived there since mid-2012. Therefore the question arises, who told Bill that I had been served at a Maryland address?
Ergo, the identity of “Breitbart Unmasked” (and likewise their fellow Team Kimberlin member “Xenophon”) is quite relevant to my defense in the case of Kimberlin v. Walker, et al., and Bill Schmalfeldt’s statement makes him a direct witness to these matters.
Quod erat demonstrandum.
Catch them telling the truth. Catch them telling a lie. Either way, so long as they refuse to exercise their right to remain silent, everything they say can and will be used against them in a court of law.
And their dishonesty is quite notorious.
Hey, @Fite_Rite_Radio @BreitbartUnmask @x3n0ph0n Y'all have a nice phone conversation, OK? http://t.co/7eY8V1YUvY @ali @wjjhoge @Popehat

Did Terrorists Defeat Navy SEALs?
Posted on | October 7, 2013 | 25 Comments
That’s what an article in the Christian Science Monitor suggests:
A commando unit from the US Navy’s Seal Team Six launched an amphibious raid on a Somali town, but failed to confirm a capture or kill of their Al Shabab target, suspected to be linked to Nairobi’s Westgate mall terror attack.
The operation could have opposite its intended result of discouraging further attacks. Analysts warn that even earlier successful targeted strikes against Al Shabab, a Somalia-based Islamist militant group, failed to curb the group’s capacity to carry out international terror attacks, and that failed missions could in fact bolster its support and recruitment.
You can read the whole thing, but I’m not buying this argument. Unsuccessful operations are just part of the calculus of anti-terror strategy and, while commanders never plan for a mission to fail, no military force in history has ever been 100% successful. Even an unsuccessful mission can have strategic benefits, e.g., keeping the enemy off-balance, forcing them to take defensive measures for their own security.
If this failed Somalia raid should have the short-term result of aiding Al Shabab recruitment (which is merely possible, not certain), that just means more targets for our guys to kill. Go grab an AK-47, idiots, and see how that works out when we get the crosshairs on you.
Even while the SEALs were attacking in Somalia, meaning, in Tripoli “members of the elite U.S. Army Delta Force captured Abu Anas al Libi, an al Qaeda operative wanted for his role in the deadly 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.”
Delta Force? Best of the best. Fort Bragg, N.C.
Hooah.
Is This a Hate Crime? White Soldier Stabbed to Death in Washington State
Posted on | October 7, 2013 | 23 Comments
Army Spec. Tevin Geike was about to finish his three-year hitch. Friends and family had gathered for a party Friday at a hotel in Lakewood, Washington, near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Geike and two of his Army buddies were walking along the highway “when a group of black men drove by and shouted a racial comment toward the soldiers”:
“One of the soldiers yelled back something about the suspects treating combat soldiers with disrespect,” Lt. Chris Lawler said.
The car turned around and the men confronted the soldiers, according to reports. As the verbal confrontation ensued, the driver of the vehicle realized the men were actually combat veterans and called his friends off. While the men headed back to their vehicle, one of the suspects appeared to have bumped into Geike, witnesses say.
The soldiers saw Geike fall to the ground as the car sped away. He was bleeding profusely from stab wounds and died at the scene. . . .
The initial remark that started the encounter seemed derogatory in nature, said Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler. He said it was too early to say that race was the motivating factor, but investigators were exploring whether the killing should be classified as a hate crime.
“We are certainly considering it, for sure,” Lawler said.
Police are searching for a midnight blue BMW-type sedan or VW Jetta-type car with four doors, tinted windows and stock rims, and low profile tires.
All five suspects are black men in their 20s, police say. The main suspect is believed to be in his early 20s, about 6’1″, medium build, and was wearing a blue zip-up hoodie. The driver was described as having short cropped hair, and wearing a blue and white horizontal striped shirt.
Whether or not a murder is prosecuted officially as a “hate crime” is irrelevant, of course. It’s murder, and the maximum penalty applies. Reports of such crimes have repeatedly made headlines since the George Zimmerman trial, provoking the thought that perhaps the media publicity to that case — and the racial demagoguery surrounding it — has led to worsening race relations. Should we blame Al Sharpton?
UPDATE: Police arrested five suspects Monday and said their investigation indicates this was not — not — a hate crime.
