OK, that was probably mean. I denounce myself. Here’s an excerpt from my report on today’s hearing that sent Kaitlyn Hunt to jail:

Accused sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt will remain jailed in Florida until she goes to trial after a judge declared the evidence “overwhelming” she had violated court orders not to have contact with the minor victim in her case.
Hunt was arrested in February on charges of having sex with a 14-year-old girl, a felony in Florida where the legal age of consent is 16, and had been ordered as a condition of her release on bond not to contact the younger girl.
An Indian River County Sheriff’s Office detective testified Tuesday that Hunt had repeatedly violated that order. And because the alleged violations included Hunt sending sexually explicit photos and videos to the victim, the 19-year-old former cheerleader has now been charged by prosecutors with another felony. . . .

UPDATE 3:10 p.m. ET: Elliot Jones reports at WPTV-TV:

Circuit Court Judge Robert Pegg revoked bond for Kaitlyn Hunt, and she’ll remain jailed until a trial, that’s so far unscheduled.
The judge also added a new charge to her court record — transmitting material harmful to a minor by electronic equipment, a third-degree felony.
“The evidence is overwhelming,” Pegg said in ordering Hunt held in jail without bail.
A tearful Kaitlyn Hunt, in a bright orange jail jumpsuit and shackles, periodically glanced at her father in the Indian River County courtroom, as Sheriff’s Detective Jeremy Sheppard testified about new evidence in her teen sex case having to do with being in contact with the victim via electronic equipment.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m. ET: Bond was revoked after Judge Robert Pegg described evidence of Kaitlyn Hunt’s violation of her pretrial release as “overwhelming.” An arraignment date was set for the new charges of transmitting “material harmful to minors,” and Hunt was escorted out of the courtroom and back to the Indian River County Jail.

UPDATE 1:50 p.m. ET: Kaitlyn Hunt was handcuffed and shackled and wearing an orange jail uniform when she appeared in court today, facing new felony charges of violating her bond and sending illegal graphic sex materials to her underage girlfriend.

Detective Jeremy Shepherd testified about the explicit photos and video Hunt sent to the minor, who is now 15. He said he was contacted on Aug. 6 after the younger girl’s father found an iPod that Hunt had given the victim in March. This was used to transmit more than 20,000 text messages, photos and video. Detective Shepherd said that while the explicit video that shows Hunt masturbating only shows the defendant from the waist down, he was able to identify her from her pierced bellybutton and tattoos.

UPDATE 12:55 p.m. ET: According to the court docket, prosecutors have filed a new felony charge of “Transmission of material harmful to minors to a minor by electronic device or equipment” (847.0138).

Kaitlyn Hunt has been reminded why they call it ‘jailbait’

Today is the bond revocation hearing in Vero Beach:

Accused Florida sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt returned to jail Monday night prior to a hearing today in which prosecutors will argue that her bond should be revoked and that the 19-year-old former cheerleader should be kept in custody until her trial on felony charges of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Hunt, whose case has attracted nationwide media attention, voluntarily turned herself in at the Indian River County Jail about 9 p.m. Monday night. She had been out on $5,000 bond since her February arrest, but last week prosecutors filed a stunning document alleging that Hunt had repeatedly violated the court-ordered terms of her pretrial release by contacting the victim in the case, who is now 15.
Ron Barnett of Barnett Bail Bonds in Vero Beach told the Palm Beach Post that it was Hunt’s decision to return to jail pending today’s 1 p.m. hearing before Circuit Court Judge Robert Pegg. . . .

What is also interesting — and thanks to Jeanette Runyon for all her work in following this — is how Kaitlyn Hunt’s supporters, in order to argue for their lesbian heroine’s victimhood, find themselves obliged to demonize the parents of the younger girl:

In this, her supporters echo the arguments originally made in a May 17 Facebook post by Kaitlyn’s mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, who blamed the younger girl’s parents: “They are trying to send an innocent young girl to prison because they are full of hate and bigotry.”

Parents who are trying to raise their daughter right, and who expect Florida to enforce its own law — which sets age of consent at 16 — are being scapegoated by weirdos who want to make gay rights an argument to declare “open season” on 14-year-olds.

Kaitlyn Hunt Back in Jail

Evidently, her bond has been revoked, or there are new charges, but here’s the booking record from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, complete with a new mug shot, and the accused sex offender’s mother says Kaitlyn Hunt turned herself in, blaming the violation of her bond on the victim:

“Poor Kaitlyn can’t help herself! She was perfectly innocent and normal until that irresistibly hot underage girl cast her voodoo spell!”

Maybe if her trashy parents would stop throwing pity parties for their brats and instead teach them to respect the law . . .

UPDATE: Apparently the violation of terms of her release was clear enough to the bondsman, WPEC-TV reports:

Sheriff’s spokesperson Thom Raulen added, “Tonight at approximately 9pm, Kate Hunt was brought into the county jail by a representative from the bail/bond company which had posted her bond. This was not a result of judicial action but rather done at the discretion of the bail/bond agent.

Good luck finding someone else to go your bail after you violate terms of pretrial release this flagrantly. Donald Douglas observes:

Barrett Brown Inspires a Bizarre Campaign for Douchebag Rights

Sept. 12: Barrett Brown rants on YouTube about his plan to ‘destroy’ an FBI agent

“I know what’s legal, because I know what’s been done to me and if it’s legal when it’s done to me it’s going to be legal when it’s done to f–king FBI Agent Robert Smith, who is a criminal, who is involved in a criminal conspiracy. . . . Uh, anyway, so that’s why Robert Smith’s life is over. And when I say his life is over I don’t say I’m gonna go kill him, but I am gonna ruin his life and look into his fuckin’ kids, because Aaron Barr did the same thing, and he didn’t get raided for it. How do ya like them apples?”

Did you ever find yourself in an Internet flame-war with some bozo and kinda wish bad things would happen to him? Honestly, I try to avoid thinking like that. But in your wildest revenge fantasy, you could never imagine this: They hook up with an international criminal conspiracy, get raided by the FBI and then, with federal prosecutors breathing down their neck, they flip out on YouTube and — in a raving fit of paranoid insanity — threaten to “destroy” an FBI agent, and get themselves locked up facing the possibility of 105 years in federal prison.

All of which is to say, I never could have wished this on Barrett Brown, because I simply never could have imagined it.

Nor could I have imagined that a coalition of his deluded admirers would turn Barrett Brown into a First Amendment martyr, but tonight they’re having a joint benefit for Barrett and his “Anonymous” comrade Jeremy Hammond as “political prisoners of the information age.”

And if you believe that, you’re a gullible chump, the kind of sucker who doesn’t deserve an even break.

“Anyway, while I was in the backyard, and I remember I heard the Mexican FBI agent bringing the other one back in he said, oh yeah, the bad guy’s back here. It was then that I realized that I’m a bad guy. You know, I had no idea beforehand. You know, and even now I still have trouble really sort of internalizing that. But if the FBI says it, it must be true, and from now on I am the bad guy. And I’m gonna prove that in the coming months, using the court system, using the media, using my group Project PM, which has always been, uh, secretly to some extent created for the purpose of wiping out this f–king government and certain media institutions and through other means at my disposal, some of which are known, some of which are known to a few and some of which are still secret. But I don’t like keeping secrets. I was a journalist for a long time, it’s not my nature.”

The “Anonymous” hackers spent more than two years engaged in terroristic intimidation — “Do what we say, or we’ll hack you! We’ll dox you! We’ll do a DDOS against you! We’ll SWAT you! Because lulz!” — and thought they could never get caught. Barrett Brown got the idea he could ride that wave to fame and glory, and when it didn’t turn out the way he planned, he decided that this was unfair, an injustice.

That’s the bottom line: Barrett Brown failed and, unable to accept responsibility for his failure, he blamed his failure on his enemies. Look at his final video meltdown if you dare:

Go watch all of it, read all of it, and good luck making sense of any of it, because it’s nothing but pure paranoid gibberish. He recorded 45 minutes of video to explain this vast conspiracy against him — the “criminal conspiracy” with which he says this FBI agent was involved — and I’d like to see someone attempt to describe it in a linear or logical fashion, because it is evident that Barrett Brown was so deeply confused he couldn’t even make sense of his own theory.

Yet this scrambled mishmash of a conspiracy theory — allegedly involving Aaron Barr, Jennifer Emick, Alan Everett and Tom Ryan, among others — is the justification for Barrett Brown threatening to destroy an FBI agent, ending with this violent sign-off:

Every little news circus I create from here on out directs the media and the public to the criminal conspiracy that was never investigated last year involving Team Themis and the Justice Department, Eric Holder’s little f–king Justice Department, already f–king under a cloud, you know, not relative to the Bush administration but still almost as bad, ah, you know, and uh that helps, so I have no choice left but to defend my family, myself, my girlfriend, uh, my reputation, my work, my activism, my ideas, and the revelations that my friends are going to prison so that we can have a chance to get out for other people, so that they would matter. And frankly, you know, it was pretty obvious I was gonna be dead before I was forty or so, so I wouldn’t mind going out with two FBI sidearms and a f–king Egyptian pharoah. Adios.

This guy is a victim of injustice? This guy is a First Amendment hero? No, this guy is ridiculous douchebag, and if I never could have imagined him doing something quite this ridiculous, I think a nice long stay in federal custody for Barrett Brown might be a helpful warning to any other fame-whoring douchebag who thinks he can roll like that and never encounter any serious consequences.

Did you know, by the way, that in 2009 Barrett Brown was working on a book called Hot, Fat, and Clouded: The Amazing and Amusing Failures Of America’s Chattering Class, about such eminent figures as Thomas Friedman, William Bennett and Charles Krauthammer, and then — after my 2009 flame-war with Charles Johnson — Barrett decided to add a 45-page chapter on me. His editors took a look at the manuscript and said, “Robert Stacy Who?” So that got axed, and the book flopped anyway, and I think Barrett somehow blamed me for that.

All of which is necessary to explain why I’m featured rather prominently in the first part of the “Ballad of Barrett Brown”:

You have the right to be a douchebag, but being a douchebag does not confer upon you any special privileges.

Some douchebags just have to learn that lesson the hard way, I guess.

Is Obstruction of Justice, Like Dildo Sex With 14-Year-Olds, ‘Healthy and Normal’?

Kaitlyn Hunt’s family says she’s a victim of homophobia.

“They are teenagers in high school experimenting with their sexuality, all teens do it in one form or another. They are teens, it’s healthy and normal.”

“The state is further in possession of lewd and lascivious videos the defendant sent the child victim. At least one video explicitly depicts the defendant masturbating by rubbing her vagina with her fingers while moaning.”

If it’s so “healthy and normal” to have sex with a 14-year-old, if this is “fairly innocuous and extremely common,” you might think everybody would support Kaitlyn Hunt. But back when this case first made headlines, when the Hunt family had convinced people that Kaitlyn was a victim of “hate and bigotry,” there was a deliberate effort to avoid the actual facts in the case. There were aggravating circumstances involved, and once people became aware of these facts, no sane person could embrace the “gay victimhood” narrative that had originally made the “Free Kate” movement such a popular cause. Does anyone else remember how her supporters hated the facts?

Once you knew the facts, you recognized that the “Free Kate” argument was constructed entirely of rationalizations and evasions — minimizing, justifying, blame-shifting — and, if all those evasions failed, claiming that it is OK, because everybody does it:

Hunt’s parents believe their daughter is being singled out because she’s in a lesbian relationship.
“I could ramble off 10, 20 other relationship(s) right now at the same high school that are freshman and senior; 14 and 18; and they’re not being prosecuted,” Hunt-Smith said.

This is just dishonest. She claims to know about “relationships” that aren’t being prosecuted, but are 14-year-olds in Indian River County routinely screwing around with adults? Is this community such a pit of moral depravity that parents of high-school freshmen do not object to their 14-year-olds doing this? Give me a break.

These aren’t arguments. These are excuses.

And so now the scofflaw hoodlums are cornered like rats:

A plea bargain offered to accused sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt has been withdrawn after Florida prosecutors say the 19-year-old lesbian violated a judge’s order not to have contact with her underage victim. WPEC-TV reported that Hunt could be arrested today, and that the 19-year-old former cheerleader’s mother Kelley Hunt Smith may also face charges in connection with the case.
Hunt was a senior at Sebastian River High School when she was arrested in February on charges that she had sex with a 14-year-old freshman girl who was a basketball teammate. Hunt was charged with two felonies; the age of consent in Florida is 16. Last week, state attorney Bruce Colton’s office filed a complaint that Hunt, who has been free on $5,000 bond awaiting trial, violated the no-contact order that was a condition of her pretrial release. . . .
A hearing on the prosecutor’s complaint has been scheduled for Tuesday, but Scott T. Smith of Palm Beach CBS affiliate WPEC-TV reported Monday “Hunt faces being returned to jail as soon as today, and her mom may also face charges.” . . .
Violating the no-contact order could mean that not only will Hunt have to wait in jail until her case goes to trial, but she and her mother could also face charges of contempt of court and obstruction of justice. . . .

But Their Football Team Still Sucks

Auburn University has the most conservative student body of any college in the nation, according to the Princeton Review’s annual rankings, released [Aug. 5].
In contrast, Bennington College in Vermont, is the nation’s most liberal school, according to the study.
Rounding out the top ten most conservative schools for 2013 is Texas A&M, Grove City College, Hillsdale College, College of the Ozarks, University of Dallas, Thomas Aquinas College, The United States Military Academy (West Point), Hampden-Sydney College, and the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis).
The most liberal student bodies, according to Princeton Review, are Sarah Lawrence College (NY), Warren Wilson College, Bard College, Marlboro College, New College of Florida, Macaelester College, College of the Atlantic, Vassar College, and Skidmore College.

The most important thing — Princeton Review probably didn’t mention this — is that ‘Bama could easily beat any of them. Maybe Texas A&M could give us a good game, but that’s about it. ROLL TIDE!
