The death of a RINO has already been duly noted, if not exactly mourned. In their own remembrance of Snarlin’ Arlen, Victory Girls remind us of the moment at a 2009 town-hall meeting when the Vicious Backstabbing Crapweasel learned he had “awakened a sleeping giant”:

“This is about the systematic dismantling of this country. I am only 35 years old. I have never been interested in politics. You have awakened a sleeping giant. We are tired of this. This is why everybody in this room is so ticked off. I don’t want this country turning into Russia, turning into a socialized country.”

Arlen Specter was a powerful Republican senator, and Katy Abram was just a mom concerned about her children’s future in a nation whose basic freedoms Specter was helping to destroy. The contest between them, by all normal political logic, was a mismatch that Specter should have easily won. How was it that this Pennsylvania mom prevailed, and the mighty Specter was defeated? Speaking of giants . . .

Pride goeth before a fall, and Specter’s overbearing arrogance caused his own undoing. Katy Abrams is classy in her own remembrance:

My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. Despite his political world he was a father and husband who was dearly loved. I know he rests in the hands of God. Let him rest in peace.
As for me I will continue to fight all that he represented in the political realm. I thank him for helping awaken the sleeping giant. He played a key role in waking the citizenry of this nation to a government that no longer listened and continued their wrecklessness.

Benghazi Tinfoil Fez

This is via Director Blue, who points to a Free Republic article that I will edit a bit for clarity:

The murder of Ambassador Stevens at Benghazi is Obama’s October Surprise gone bad, thanks to two former SEALS who were not supposed to be at Benghazi. But then I ran to the end of the story so let’s back fill the datapoints.

First President Morsi’s first public statement to us was that he wanted the blind imam who first bombed the WTC released. Now, Obama is forever dedicated to appeasing the Muslim world; bowing to them comes naturally to him. Obama knew that he had to obey Morsi’s request. However, he couldn’t release Omar Abdul-Rahman. There had to be a reason powerful enough to warrant his release. What better than to return to the Carter era of American hostages?

Obama saw a way to release the imam and secure his re-election in one act. Wheels were set in motion. Obama needed a cover story. The YouTube video that no one has seen, released in July. America could be shamed into releasing the imam, because someone posted an obscure video, and we have to follow Obama’s lead and bow to muslims.

Next, weaken the security at Benghazi by removing the security teams and employing Libyan bodyguards for the ambassador. In effect the embassy could not defend itself. The back channel had to be from the WH to the imam’s legal representatives. It was suggested that Obama needed a reason to release the imam that America could agree to. What better than hostages? They were informed that there were no security forces at Benghazi to defend Stevens, so over-run the embassy and take him hostage. Really easy.

What was not planned for were former SEALS Donerty and Woods. They were not part of Stevens security detail; they happened to be in Benghazi working for the CIA to located missing surface-to-air missiles.

So the terrorists plan the assault on the embassy thinking there would be no resistance. Well, two SEALS never backed down from defending America and Americans. These two heros gave their lives fighting to protect our embassy and our ambassador. No telling how many peaceful muslims they transported to the after life. However, the terrorists who thought this was just a walk in the park now sought out the Americans to kill them not hold them captive. The overthrow went from hostage taking to killing.

Now the WH knew the plan had blown up. There were no hostages only dead Americans. How to cover? Roll out the 14 minute video, no one has seen, as the cause. The WH cover up was in play.

With the killing of Ambassador Stevens, there could be no exchange, no October Surprise. Oh, what was the October Surprise? Well, Obama would spend a month negotiating with the terrorists for the release of Ambassador Stevens and, finally, and after his focused efforts on saving Stevens’ live, Stevens would be released just before the election. Obama would have sucked out all the energy from the campaign as everyone would be watching him, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, negotiate for the release of Stevens. The world would applaud him, the muslim would have their murderous imam back, he would be reelected and the destruction of America who go on.

We can only thank every day these SEALS for defending America with their lives.

A lot of datapoints, Benghazi, President Morsi, SEALS, blind iman, 14 minute You Tube video; withdrawal of security from embassy, October surprise and Obama’s October surprise.

Wonder which story makes more sense? Mine of the one the WH spins every day that keeps changing as the lies are exposed.

First of all, I don’t believe this. This sounds like a fantastic movie plot. This is one of those tritely plausible connections of dots by some external observer. The idea that any government leaders of any party would play such high-stakes games with peoples’ lives (as opposed to the individually low-stakes games of ObamaCare) is revolting, even for a figure like #OccupyResoluteDesk.

Should any plot as wild and fragile as this one have been driving Benghazi-quiddick (unlike a -gate, we have a death toll) then facts are likely to leak out. You just can’t coordinate across that many agencies without leaving loose information.

God rest those who died in Benghazi.

Arlen Specter Dies at Age 82

One should never speak ill of the dead, and therefore I will merely note that there is one less RINO in the world.

By contrast, Charlie Crist is still alive, so there’s probably no harm in saying that if Charlie got hit by a bus tomorrow, I’d be doing cartwheels.

Cherokee Tribune Endorses Romney

You’re thinking, “Cherokee? You mean, like Elizabeth Warren?” No, this is an editorial in the newspaper in Cherokee County, Georgia:

During his first two years Obama had a Democratic-controlled House and Senate to pass any plan or idea to help the tattered economy. Instead, he made his overriding priority not job creation but the radical transformation of this country’s health care system, which though far from perfect is the best in the world for a country so large. That government takeover of health care, if left in place, will deprive millions of Americans of their present health insurance and degrade the quality of care provided for all of us. His preferred model is socialized medicine along the lines of Great Britain and other European countries.
That’s fitting, because his economic policies have this country following Greece and Spain toward bankruptcy.
This is a president who seems fundamentally out of touch with most mainstream Americans and sees Main Street America as something to be scolded. He routinely villanizes the private sector and pushes policies that punish profit. As he chided successful Americans this summer, “You didn’t build that!” . . .

‘Media Credibility Day Is Coming’

When the Associated Press finally took notice of “surging” crowds at Romney-Ryan rallies, Da Tech Guy laughed — like me, he’s covered multiple Romney campaign events and had seen big, enthusiastic crowds all along. Now Sam Youngman of Reuters takes notice:

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is recovering ground in the critical swing state of Ohio as he rises in the polls and crowd numbers swell after his strong debate performance last week against President Barack Obama.
Despite pundits and pollsters dismissing Romney’s chances in the state in late September, the Republican is now either tied or just barely trailing Obama in Ohio ahead of the next presidential debate on Tuesday night.
At an event with thousands of Ohioans on Friday night, Romney boasted of “a growing crescendo of enthusiasm.” He has spoken to several large audiences in Ohio this week.
“(Obama’s) campaign is about smaller and smaller things, and our campaign is about bigger and bigger crowds fighting for a bright future,” he said on Saturday.

Polls are lagging indicators, and it is the trend that matters. The RCP average for Ohio has Obama leading 1.7 points, whereas the lead was 5.5 points on Oct. 3. The latest poll from the Democrat firm PPP has Obama still leading Ohio by 5 points, which goes to show you: Don’t let polls freak you out.

Another Hate Hoax? Democrat Worker Attacked Denver Campaign Office UPDATED With Important Correction

Sometimes, when news breaks, you just wait for the expected sequel, so I didn’t jump when I saw this yesterday via Memeorandum:

Shot fired at Obama campaign field office in Denver

Oh, really? 3, 2, 1 . . . FAKE!

One of two people suspected of shattering 11 windows Tuesday morning at the state Democratic Party headquarters has an arrest record and a history of helping a Democratic political candidate, public records show.
Police said that about 2:20 a.m., 24-year-old Maurice Schwenkler, now in custody, and an at-large accomplice took a hammer to the picture windows displaying posters touting President Barack Obama and his health care reform efforts . . .
Schwenkler is charged with criminal mischief and is to make his first appearance in Denver County Court today.
He is accused of doing an estimated $11,000 in damage and could face a felony conviction.
On the last day of the 2008 Republican National Convention, he was charged with misdemeanor unlawful assembly in St. Paul, Minn.
Court records provided through the St. Paul Pioneer Press show he was jailed about 2 a.m.
Schwenkler received $500 in November 2008 to walk door-to-door in support of Democrat Mollie Cullom, who lost her race to Republican state Rep. David Balmer of Centennial. . . .
Schwenkler was one of dozens of paid canvassers bankrolled by the Colorado Citizens’ Coalition, a political 527 committee funded by labor groups and well-known, wealthy liberal donors.
In those disclosures, Schwenkler’s address is listed as Derailer Bicycle Cooperative, a free community bicycle collective that operates just around the corner from the Democratic headquarters. . . .
Balmer said he suspects the vandalism might have been aimed at making the GOP look bad.
“This sounds like the type of Democratic tactic from the left fringe trying to make Republicans look mean-spirited,” Balmer said. “In this case, it blew up in their face. He was caught red-handed.”

UPDATE: Oops. Didn’t check the date. The Democrat worker attacking the Democrat HQ story is from 2009. In the current investigation, silence prevails:

Neither Democrats, Republicans nor police wanted to speculate whether the assault was random vandalism, or an attack related somehow to the heated presidential campaign. Multiple national media outlets picked up on the story.

Resting Place For Mainstream Media

Slashdot links the MOMA announcing an exhibit: ‘Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop‘

…the first major exhibition devoted to the history of manipulated photography before the digital age. Featuring some 200 visually captivating photographs created between the 1840s and 1990s in the service of art, politics, news, entertainment, and commerce, the exhibition offers a provocative new perspective on the history of photography as it traces the medium’s complex and changing relationship to visual truth.

After this election, I expect to see a serious book or three in the specifics of how media has been manipulated, first in TV Age, and now in the Internet Age. [Aside: aren’t these Ages getting younger as we go?]

I don’t see much value in getting angry about this. The real feedback loop that will minimize the shenanigans, and drive people toward honesty is laughter. You can’t make dishonesty illegal through a court of law. You can only minimize dishonesty through the court of public opinion. The likely penalty in lost power has got to exceed whatever transient value gained by, for example, claiming some random pile of trip on YouTube triggered a demonstration that led to the death of an Ambassador and three others.

But that’s just the extreme example. Far less overt examples of spinning in the media, like the Katie Couric interview with Sarah Palin, or the infamous edit of a man carrying a rifle at a Tea Party event, beckon. As we forge a post-Progressive future in the United States, I think the realization will dawn that escaping total collapse was a near-run thing. It’s certainly too early to rule out a partial collapse.

Stacy McCain really should set about compiling a hefty list of examples of media bias.
