Military Endorsements Aren’t Decisive. That Said: WOW!

Posted on | October 17, 2012 | 61 Comments

by Smitty

In deference to #OccupyResoluteDesk, he has half a dozen military endorsements:

Name Note
Wesley Clark, four star General (Ret), former Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO, 2004 presidential candidate Tool.
Richard Danzig, former Secretary of the Navy Not a proper veteran, but we can’t get to ‘half a dozen’ without some sort of shenanigans. Also, really competent, would make a good SECDEF while the country sinks, should BHO achieve re-election.
Paul Eaton, Major General (Ret) Got nothin’.
Donald J. Gutter, retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, former Judge Advocate General of the Navy, current Dean, Duquesne University School of Law, Pittsburgh JAGs: whattayagonnado?
Michael D. Lumpkin Wikipedia page says: Commander, Captain (O-6) select. As he was a SEAL, we’ll omit the standard mockery for hedging the yes/no question: Did you get paid?
John B. Nathman, retired U.S. Navy Admiral, co-chair of the campaign THAT Nathman.

Just to avoid looking too, let us say, Crowley-esque in my bias, I drop Mitt’s endorsements below the fold:

America, Don’t Be Distracted!

Posted on | October 17, 2012 | 18 Comments

The next vice president of the United States wants Americans to keep focused on the important economic issues confronting our nation. So I felt kinda guilty when I was distracted by the smiling redhead standing behind Paul Ryan during his speech in Ohio:

“And look at where we are right now: 23 million Americans struggling to find work. You know, we had a discussion about how women are faring in this economy last night. Five-and-a-half million women are still struggling for work in this economy. A half-million women more are unemployed today than when President Obama was sworn in. Twenty-six million women are trapped in poverty today. That’s the highest rate in 17 years. We need to get people back to work. We need to get this economy turned around. The American idea is there. It hasn’t gone away. But we have the wrong people and the wrong policies in place, and if we clear the way and go forward with the proactive, pro-growth solutions in the agenda that Mitt Romney is talking about, we will get people back to work. We will get people out of poverty, back in the middle class, we’ll get back onto reaching their vision of the American dream.”
— Paul Ryan, Berea, Ohio, Oct. 17, 2012

You know Democrats must be discouraged: Republicans have the best economic policies and the pretty redheads? Winning!

@CrowleyCNN Targeted by Fat Jokes, Legitimate Criticism, But Mainly …

Posted on | October 17, 2012 | 38 Comments

. . . yeah, it’s the legitimate criticism:

If Tuesday night’s presidential debate proved nothing else, it demonstrated one thing: CNN’s Candy Crowley is definitely not an “uncommitted voter.” The moderator’s handling of the town-hall debate at Hofstra University was heavy-handed and one-sided throughout, not merely giving more time to President Obama, but repeatedly cutting off Mitt Romney when the Republican attempted to counter accusations from the president. . . .

That’s from my American Spectator column, and I’m glad Smitty was kind enough to do a roundup of Benghazi-related debate reaction, because I was up until the pre-dawn hours this morning, and woke up about 10 a.m. too frazzled to think about it.

John Nolte at Breitbart.com called Crowley’s performance “a scandal; a total and complete media scandal . . . Absolutely disgraceful.” Matthew Sheffield of Newsbusters said Crowley “disgraced herself . . . showing why many Americans were rightfully suspicious of her ability to moderate a presidential debate fairly.” Donald Douglas at American Power called it “the worst debate moderation in presidential debate history.”

Not one of them felt it necessary to point out that Candy Crowley is fat, and I’m happy for that, because too many people resort to such cheap insults when they’re angry, and it hurts the feelings of fat people everywhere. This kind of cruelty toward BBWs and plumpers also bothers “chubby chasers” like Dan Collins, whose appreciation of Rubenesque ladies is so often misunderstood.

This probably explains why Dan’s colleague Bruce McQuain at Conservative Commune tactfully avoided any reference to Ms. Crowley’s extra pounds when criticizing her moderation of the debate. Dan himself hasn’t, um, weighed in yet, perhaps because he was so traumatized by seeing his favorite journalist universally excoriated by the blogosphere. Paul Ryan also wisely refrained from making fat jokes on “Good Morning America”:

“Look, growing the economy through energy, through better job training programs, for getting people back to work, getting the deficit – cutting the deficit, capping spending, getting small businesses growing again. This is our specific five-point plan. These are bipartisan ideas that have worked before. We’re going to do them again. And the specific ideas on how we get off the path that we are on right now, to get this economy growing and creating jobs, and that’s what people saw. They saw a leader with a proven track record of bringing people together, getting things done, creating jobs. And that is exactly why I think Mitt Romney, again, won this debate.”

Attaboy, Paul! Stay focused on the important issues that matter to Americans, including those ladies with “more to love,” many of whom are in fact staunchly Republican. And c’mon, guys, admit it: You don’t mind a gal with more cushion for the pushin’.

Wimpy liberal beta males are usually too insecure to admit their admiration for the plus-size ladies, but genuine red-blooded American guys are unintimidated. So none of us patriotic conservative fellows had a problem with Candy’s deluxe figure, but most of us did have a problem with this:

Crowley Interrupts Romney 28 Times, Obama Just 9

Shut your big fat mouth, Candy. And go make us a sammich.

Department of Unfortunate Quotations

Posted on | October 17, 2012 | 6 Comments

Suppose that a father wished to advise his son against taking liberties with young ladies, lest the boy be unfairly accused of a crime. Now, suppose that the boy grew up to be a Republican state legislator in Wisconsin, and decided that his dear old Dad’s advice would be worth sharing with the press. Prepare to be horrified and embarrassed, dear friends:

When a Chetek Alert reporter asked state Rep. Roger Rivard in December to comment on the case in which a 14-year-old girl accused a 17-year-old boy of sexually assaulting her, the Rice Lake lawmaker said his father told him: “Some girls, they rape so easy.” Rivard said last week the comment was his father’s way of warning him that a woman could agree to sex but then later claim the act wasn’t consensual.
He said later that same day that his comments could be misconstrued and that he viewed rape as a horrible crime.

Dear old Dad might have added, along with his words of wisdom, “You probably never want to have to explain this to the media.”

Perhaps the Republican Party should send out a memo to its officials and candidates: The minute a reporter says the word “rape,” terminate the interview immediately.

Romney Debates Crowley And Obama On Benghazi, Wins

Posted on | October 17, 2012 | 30 Comments

by Smitty

Benghazi was the pivotal moment in the town hall debate, in my opinion, and that of some others:

Via BlueGrass pundit:

What a sad, pathetic joke that Obama has to have a woman attempt to stand up for him. Romney’s five sons were no doubt writhing at the raised eyebrows at 0:20 in the clip, recalling their own sad attempts at sliding one by dad, and getting thoroughly crushed by the Brows Of Doom.

The Administration’s pathetic attempt to walk back the 12 September Rose Garden speech is thoroughly debunked here. If Obama’s claim is true, that he properly labeled Benghazi terrorism initially, then shifted ‘narratives’ to call it a spontaneous riot due to Nakoula’s handiwork, then Obama’s sordid performance would be an example of postvarication, where the truth shifts to a lie upon the retelling, instead of the truth remaining in the forefront.

However, what we have here is a creep show Administration that owes Americans straight answers, but can’t even tell itself a straight story. Maybe Petraeus could offer such. Where is that guy? Stuffed under the bus behind Clapper?

Kudos to Mitt. You could see that hours of preparation that went into this debate on display. That the topic would come up was fairly obvious. But the delivery was polished, and Obama’s body language and shout to Crowley for a lifeline were sweet, sweet tells. Romney should have ended his exchange with Crowley by saying “Thank you, Madame President.” As graphically put:
And Crowley then walked back her shilling. Fortunately, these Lefty creeps no longer retain an iron grip on matters. While viewers at the time called it a draw or gave the edge to #OccupyResoluteDesk, further analysis is going to show that, as in the previous debates this season, the Republicans are holding their own despite having two opponents.

Say whatever else you want about the debate: seeing Romney have the sack to call out Obama for lying, to his face, was pure chewing satisfaction. As with the previous debate, I may have to trundle over to the Romney campaign site for a wee donation, I’m so pleased by this. And as for Candid Candy, I hope she doesn’t spend all 30 pieces of silver in one place.

Further linkage at Instapundit, but don’t miss Michelle, violating the rules, clapping in support of falsehood. I’m not ashamed of my country, in general, but the 2008 election sure was a hiccup. And, for those wondering what the debate would have looked like if you dropped some acid before viewing:

In the second presidential debate, President Obama stood up proudly for his record, offered a positive vision, called out Romney’s lies in a calm and cool way, and, most importantly, showed some real fire in the belly.
