American Glob Misses The Point

“A MODEST PROPOSAL: Liberals Should Start Their Own Country” doesn’t understand the fundamental premise of modern liberalism.
That is, Modern Liberalism is an alliance of the Pointy Haired Boss and Wally against Dilbert and Alice. It is the well-heeled loudmouths teaming up with the slackers to mooch off of the productive.
There is no way under the sun that the PHB and Wally are ever going to found their own country, even if there was infinite, uninhabited rich land available. Even to say that, you’re viewing reality through the Dilbert/Alice prism.
Turn on, tune in, and drop out to the Lefty weltanschauung for an understanding of why they’ll wait for you to start a swell new country, then move in to hammer you with fear and guilt and live off of the sweat of your brow. It’s called Progress.

Update: Daily Pundit slightly misses the point. The statement was not “Have Proglodytes ever started a country?”. American Glob had a modest proposal for our current crop of American Proglodytes to, you know, follow through on their repeated threats (teases) to leave this country.

To restate my original post,
offer an example of a parasite leaving the host.
For surely as they depart our coast,
Reality will strike, leaving them toast.

Did Brett Kimberlin Stalk BlogCon? UPDATE: Confirmed or Not?

Posted on | June 6, 2012 | 40 Comments

FROM AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
New developments today in the story of convicted terrorist bomber-turned-progressive activist Brett Kimberlin: Sources report that conservative New Media activists believe that Kimberlin — whose activities are funded by the tax-exempt 501(c) non-profits Velvet Revolution and the Justice Through Music Project — showed up in April at BlogCon, a conference sponsored by FreedomWorks and the Franklin Center.

The incident was uncovered by @JDonels, who reported on his Tumblr blog that a person using the Twitter alias “Robert Slydell” appears to have been involved in the incident:

Did a left-wing activist infiltrate BlogCon Charlotte? Try to intimidate bloggers on Twitter? Did this person know someone who may have hacked Twitter accounts, and have his real name accidentally exposed in the process? And did this person know of efforts to put conservatives in TwitterGulag?

A photo of Kimberlin was circulated among online activists and, sources say, it was confirmed that Kimberlin showed up at the hotel in Charlotte, N.C., where BlogCon was held. Sources say Kimberlin was seen collecting information about the conference proceedings and was eventually escorted from the premises by hotel security.

Kimberlin has been accused of engaging in a campaign of harassment and intimidation against conservative bloggers, including Patrick “Patterico” Frey, Aaron Walker and National Bloggers Club president Ali Akbar. The case has drawn widespread attention, and major news organizations are taking increased interest in the story. Bestselling author Michelle Malkin wrote today:

[Award-winning conservative blogger] Ace of Spades has called for a National Day of Blogger Silence this Friday to focus Capitol Hill’s attention to this vital free speech fight.

UPDATE: Hans Bader of the Competitive Enterprise Institute called attention to the Kimberlin case Tuesday in a letter to the editors of The Washington Times. Meanwhile, Examiner columnist Joe Newby contacted a board member of Kimberlin’s non-profit Velvet Revolution, who claimed there have been “coordinated right wing attacks” leveled at Kimberlin “based on no facts.”

Kimberlin’s criminal career has been the subject of extensive reporting by Massimo Calabresi of Time magazine, Mandy “Liberty Chick” Nagy of Breitbart.com, Ed Barnes of Fox News and other news organizations, and was covered in-depth by New Yorker reporter Mark Singer in his 1996 book, Citizen K: The Deeply Weird American Journey of Brett Kimberlin..

UPDATE II: Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia) just became the first member of Congress to officially demand investigation of the “threats and intimidation [which] have no place in our national political discourse.”

UPDATE III: Instapundit and Dan Riehl on Chambliss story, which is also now the subject of a Memeorandum thread.

UPDATE IV: Another source contacted me this evening to express uncertainty about the identification of Kimberlin as the person escorted out of the North Carolina hotel where BlogCon was held in April. Furthermore, this source said, there is concern — based on Kimberblin’s known modus operandi — that heightened scrutiny may prompt the convicted bomber to desperate measures.

“He’s a megalomaniacal sociopath,” the source said, adding that the Mark Singer book Citizen K makes clear Kimberlin’s complete contempt for law enforcement and his belief that he’s “smarter than the cops.” Thus, whether or not Kimberlin was at the April event in Charlotte, he might single out individuals associated with the conference as “enemies,” targeting them for “lawfare” harassment or other types of intimidation tactics.

Stacy Called from the road somewhere to point to an ABC News story by Arlette Saenz that quotes him:

Robert Stacy McCain, a contributor to the American Spectator and founder of The Other McCain Blog, wrote about Kimberlin, and shortly after, his wife’s place of employment received a phone call from Kimberlin accusing McCain of harassment. Based on Kimberlin’s ability to find his wife’s employer, McCain became concerned Kimberlin also knew the location of his home, so the McCain family relocated to an undisclosed location.
“If I was going to continue doing this story, I couldn’t do it from my home,” McCain told ABC News. ”This kind of intimidation — it’s a threat to protected first amendment expression.”
“It’s being treated as these are just bloggers playing around on Twitter, but this is serious business. It’s much more serious I think than most people now realize,” McCain said.

Will Jesse Kelly Surf A Wisconsin Wave In The Arizona-8 Special Election 12Jun?

Posted on | June 6, 2012 | 7 Comments

by Smitty

Eternal political vigilance is the price of freedom, and we’ve got a multi-trillion dollar tab to show for how we, as a whole, have flaked off these decades. Signs of life such as yesterday’s recall in Wisconsin are necessary, but not sufficient. Continuous engagement is the new rule. Thus, attention shifts to a special election in Arizona’s 8th District, which holds a special election next Tuesday to replace the incredibly tough Gabrielle Giffords, wounded amidst the tragedy of January 8, 2011.

This election pits a former staffer, Ron Barber, against Jesse Kelly:

Jesse Kelly, candidate for Arizona CD 8’s special congressional election, is an Iraq War veteran with a commitment to restoring the fundamental qualities that make America great. Jesse is a proud husband, a father of two boys, and a businessman.
Jesse works as a project manager for the family construction business in an enterprise that takes him across the southwest region of United States. In his managerial capacity, he accepts responsibility for completing multi-million dollar projects–on time and within budget. Through his work, he understands how to schedule and balance human resources, time, and money. He has also seen firsthand that Southern Arizona families struggle to keep food on the table in this stagnant economy. That must change.
Prior to joining the family business, Jesse served in the United States Marine Corps. During his four years in the military, he led a squad in the Mortar Section of the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged in 2004.

  • War hero? Check
  • Conservative? Check
  • Business experience, awesome spouse, knows what to do with our southern perimeter? Check, check, check.

It would have been better for Kelly to have run against a whole Gabrielle Giffords, absent the tragedy of a year and a half ago. Yet this is the existence in which we live.

Walker Files Appeal in Kimberlin Case;

NATIONAL BLOGGERS CLUB ANNOUNCES THAT JAILED
BLOGGER AARON WALKER HAS APPEALED AGAINST
CONVICTED DOMESTIC TERRORIST BRETT KIMBERLIN

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Bloggers Club, Inc. is announcing that it will continue to raise funds to provide financial relief to member Aaron Walker. An appeal to the peace order granted by Judge C.J. Vaughey was filed Monday.
Last week the Maryland judge issued a 6-month peace order and jailed attorney Aaron Walker, preventing him from mentioning Brett Kimberlin in public. A Blogger and Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney wrote of this order that, “this is a clear-cut case of a First Amendment violation — about as clear-cut as you’ll ever hear.” Since then, Walker has been working with a new legal team and the National Bloggers Club to legally restore his free speech rights.
“We’ve got over a dozen lawyers coordinating on this now, volunteering their time. Aaron’s first amendment rights are being violated when he is barred from even being able to publicly mention the case or Kimberlin’s violent past,” said Bloggers Club president Ali A. Akbar.
Akbar continued, “Yesterday they came after the Bloggers Club and my family — my family. We’re not stopping. We’ve got to raise $5,000 more dollars to continue to stand with Aaron Walker and I’m positive supporters will continue to step up.”
The National Bloggers Club is working to promote KimberlinFiles.org where supporters continue to give financial and written support to this cause.
In keeping with the ruling of the court, Walker’s response was simply, “thank you”.

Lots of important background from Michelle “The Boss” Malkin:

When I asked Ali Akbar of the National Bloggers Club for help with a website/infrastructure to support the blogger targets of convicted bomber/online terrorist Brett Kimberlin two weeks ago, he didn’t hesitate or waver. He stepped up to the plate because he believes in free speech and new media. I knew and respected him from his past work on grass-roots conservative campaigns and online projects. I was honored to join the NBC board of directors when he asked me late last year. There is no vast, deeply-funded conspiracy behind how it all came together — as some deranged progressive operatives (who habitually indulge in such rancid psychological projection) are claiming. I simply asked for help with organizing/fundraising tasks that were way beyond my paygrade. Ali volunteered to help and hasn’t stopped. The blogosphere owes him bottomless thanks.
Despite threats made to Ali’s family by Kimberlin associates and new legal threats waged by one Kevin Zeese, he and the NBC are not backing down. They are standing with the Kimberlin targets who continue to fight these ongoing menaces. Joining the battle: many, many excellent First Amendment lawyers (including Eugene Volokh, who on Tuesday noted his pro bono involvement at his blog.) . . .

Please read the whole thing. Ali’s role in this emergency has been crucial and The Boss has been on fire for the past two weeks.

There is much, much more to this story, and major national news organizations are taking notice of one of the most fascinating political dramas of this wild and weird year.

Update: welcome, Instapundit readers!
