Sources: Fed Probe of ‘Anonymous’ Hackers Continues; ‘LulzSec’ Case Could Yield New Indictments in HBGary Case

Posted on | May 24, 2012 | 17 Comments

Federal officials pursuing a wide-ranging investigation of the so-called “Anonymous” hacking conspiracy are beginning to track connections in wake of their success in cracking the related international ring of computer pirates known as “LulzSec,” sources close to the probe have told me exclusively.

Less than two weeks ago, convicted hacker Jeremy Hammond, 27 – who previously served two years in prison for a scheme to steal credit card information of donors to the conservative group Protest Warrior – pleaded not guilty in a New York City court on charges related to the “LulzSec” ring. Hammond is one of five Americans charged in the case.

That alleged international criminal network began to be dismantled by investigators within months of Texas journalist Barrett Brown emerged as a public spokesman for “Anonymous.” Last month, Brown’s apartment was raided by the FBI.

Brown has not been charged with any crime, and many supporters of the “Anonymous” hacker network have expressed suspicion that Brown has been cooperating with law enforcement officials. Court documents in the “LulzSec” case indicate that prosecutors are relying on information obtained from unindicted co-conspirators.

The accused hackers were known by several online aliases, as Mathew J. Schwartz of Information Week reported May 15:

The federal indictment also charged four other men — Ryan Ackroyd (a.k.a. kayla, lol, lolspoon), Jake Davis (a.k.a. topiary, atopiary), Darren Martyn (a.k.a. pwnsauce, raepsauce, networkkitten), and Donncha O’Cearrbhail (a.k.a. Palladium) with having participated in hacking attacks against InfraGard Atlanta, the Fox Broadcasting Company’s X-Factor participant database, Sony Pictures Entertainment, HBGary Federal, and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), among other sites.

The HBGary element of the “Anonymous” probe may be yielding new indictments soon. One possible suspect in the case is said to have begun fearing that he is currently under FBI surveillance, a person familiar with the case told me Thursday.

Stacy McCain’s Name Is Not On An Award, But Smitty’s Is

Posted on | May 24, 2012 | 20 Comments

by Smitty

WHEREABOUTS UNKNOWN–Fugitive award winning author Robert Stacy McCain’s location in Undisclosed, KY has apparently been compromised. It wasn’t clear from the conversation whether he meant Kentucky, or something else. Does he typically refer to the state as “Kay-Why”? He reports via phone that he’s tired of Dick Cheney’s gun collection, and headed for an Even Less Disclosed Location.

Now, while I am in fact United For Life with my wife of eight-ish years, I am not the Chris Smith receiving the Henry J. Hyde Defender of Life Award. But the utility of a name like ‘Chris Smith’ should be apparent to all.

Stacy, on the other hand, has be awarded with some ludicrous traffic here on the blog. Small comfort for all the stress of dealing with a significant threat to his family, but let’s thank some of our recent linkers:

Do not let my low-key style of writing this post distract from the fact that Brett Kimblerlin is both capable of pretty much anything and representative of the darker site of where the Left in this country has been for longer than we’re really aware.

THE KIMBERLIN FILES:

In Which I Spring To The Defense Of Kristen Wiig

Wow, the knives came out, via Breitbart, against Kristen Wiig. “Not in the same league as John Belushi, Chevy Chase, and Will Ferrell”.
John Belushi was in his own category. Chevy Chase is comparable. Will Ferrell? Really?
I guess Hulu isn’t interested in helping a blogger out, but I think Wiig’s 2006 Nancy Pelosi sendup is arguably the funniest cold open in SNL history.

Lying Felon Can’t Stop Lying

‘Speedway Bomber’ Brett Kimberlin was sentenced to 50 years in 1981

“Law enforcement officials have been made aware that convicted terrorist Brett Kimberlin appears to be engaged in an attempt to intimidate me into being silent about his sordid criminal history.”
“Never Doubt That God Answers Prayer,” May 21

FROM AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
Readers who have followed The Kimberlin Files will remember that I called the “Breitbart Unmasked” site Not Brett Kimberlin: The site’s Twitter account denied being Kimberlin, yet seemed obsessed with attacking people who tell the truth about convicted terrorist Brett Kimberlin. Tuesday was my turn, and his resulting deranged screed demonstrated the limited vocabulary of Not Brett Kimberlin:

right wing extremist Robert Stacy McCain … his right wing racist friends … McCain and the right wingers who support his racist writings … McCain’s racism and hatred … his past vocal racist rants online. … he was basically shown the door at the Washington Times when it cleaned house of all the racists who had accumulated there, which caused circulation to drop over their continued racist articles in which many were written by McCain himself. … rid themselves of such a racist stink bomb as Robert Stacy McCain.

Perhaps by “racist articles,” Not Brett Kimberlin means my 2007 feature profile of a certain multimillionaire restaurant executive:

ATLANTA — Herman Cain laughs a lot, and he has lots to be happy about — including a successful business career and a popular talk radio show. Inside the Atlanta studios of WSB Radio on a recent Saturday, he told his listeners about a local newspaper columnist who wrote that “being a black Republican is not only oxymoronic, it’s simply plain old-fashioned moronic” and singled out Mr. Cain as a “token” and a “sorry opportunist.”
“He forgot — I’ve got a radio show,” Mr. Cain says as he issues an on-air challenge for the columnist to call in, then goes to commercial, laughing all the while. . .  .

Feel free to read the whole thing, which is rather relevant, in light of what a certain former Republican presidential candidate sent out on his Twitter feed Wednesday night:

This has been one of the most remarkable episodes in my 26-year career as a journalist, but the important thing to remember is that this story is not about me. This story is not about Mandy Nagy or Seth Allen or Patrick Frey or Aaron Worthing or anyone else that has been targeted, smeared, blamed, accused or harassed in the past several months.

This story is about Brett Kimberlin — or, as Jimmie Bise Jr. calls him, “lying felon Brett Kimberlin.”

Yeah: Kimberlin was convicted of perjury before he graduated high school, and his habitual dishonesty is one of the most consistent traits of his sociopathic personality. In sworn testimony in a court proceeding involving Seth Allen, Kimberlin falsely claimed to have been “secretly exonerated” (???) of the heinous crimes for which he was convicted in 1981. His self-serving effort to create a false myth of his own innocence — the Big Lie of Kimberlin’s criminal existence — has become an increasingly desperate losing battle for the convicted terrorist infamously known as the “Speedway Bomber.”

Both Patrick Frey and Aaron Worthing had expressed suspicion that Kimberlin is “Breitbart Unmasked,” a site no honest person should ever link, but which has proven to be a sturdy rope with which Kimberlin has now hanged himself. Why? Because, you see, there were some elements in my small slice of this story that I have never disclosed online — key facts that only lying felon Brett Kimberlin could have known — which appeared in the false “Breitbart Unmasked” attack on me.

Given that “Breitbart Unmasked” has in recent months been used to publish smear after smear against various of Kimberlin’s enemies, this attack on me therefore provides crucial evidence indicating that, while Kimberlin claimed these law-abiding citizens were “harassing” or “stalking” him, quite the reverse is true.

Could this be proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

Hey, I’m not a lawyer, just a working member of the press corps, trying to report an obviously newsworthy story.

This story is about Brett Kimberlin, and involves a Neutral Objective Fact that can be expressed in four simple words:

LYING FELON BRETT KIMBERLIN

UPDATE: “Immediately recognized as newsworthy.”

UPDATE II: A crucial strategic consideration:

[I]f we allow our friends to be picked off one by one, we will all be picked off. It is imperative that we stand together, and face this together as a united front.

Guess Who Kills Terrorists?

Posted on | May 24, 2012 | 45 Comments

The United States Army Special Forces, that’s who!

My 19-year-old son Bob called me yesterday here in the Undisclosed Location to tell me that he had scored 98 on his Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The recruiter told my son this high score qualifies him for any career field  in the Army, and Bob told the recruiter that he wants to try for Special Forces.

Needless to say, Mrs. Other McCain is worried about Bob’s military aspirations, even though this is a fine family tradition. One of her brothers served in the Marines and another of her brothers is an Army reservist who was deployed to Iraq. My brother served in the 101st Airborne and my father got a purple heart while fighting the Nazis in World War II. But moms worry about their boys, and so my wife is worried about Bob’s career goal of joining the U.S. Army Special Forces.

Even though she’s worried about our son, of course, she’s still very proud of him. Bob’s not worried at all, having evidently inherited his devil-may-care attitude from me, whereas we give Mrs. Other McCain most of the credit for Bob’s extraordinary good looks.

In Case You Were Having Trouble Distinguishing The Two

John Edwards is a contemporary sinner who, for all external appearances, is in danger of falling into the hand of an angry God.
Johnathan Edwards was an 18th century preacher who laid down Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God:

“There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God.”

Ol’ Silky John might consider that while he awaits his fate. Repentance is good for the soul. Real good.
