One of the fundamental challenges of our time is building an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. How do you propose to judge, much less build, ‘fairness’, sir?
And as many Americans rush to file their taxes this weekend, it’s worth pointing out that we’ve got a tax system that doesn’t always uphold the principle of everyone doing their part. Why is it anyone’s job to judge who ‘does their part’? Where is your reference for this? How do you assign yourself the task of judging it? Just who are you?
Now, this is not just about fairness.  This is also about growth.  It’s about being able to make the investments we need to strengthen our economy and create jobs.  And it’s about whether we as a country are willing to pay for those investments. Growth? More of what your policies have delivered these three years, i.e. ‘shrinkage’ values of growth? How can the government be said to invest? Isn’t investment a private sector action undertaken for profit? Maybe you could show that government positions are ‘jobs’, and government spending is ‘growth’ first.
In a perfect world, of course, none of us would have to pay any taxes. We’d have no deficits to pay down.  And we’d have all the resources we needed to invest in things like schools and roads and a strong military and new sources of energy – investments that have always bolstered our economy and strengthened the middle class. Even Jesus of Nazareth paid His taxes. What good is this rhetorical toss-off here? Investments pay dividends. What school actually pays no-kidding financial dividends directly, ever? We’ve got to call your bluff on your cheap rhetorical conflations until you cut that noise out.
But we live in the real world, with real choices and real consequences. Right now, we’ve got significant deficits to close.  We’ve got serious investments to make to keep our economy growing.  And we can’t afford to keep spending more money on tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans who don’t need them and didn’t even ask for them. When have you, ever, lived in the real, capitalistic world of America, sir? Ever? When? What we’ve got to do to keep the economy growing is go after your Leviathan welfare state with hammer and sicklepliers and a blowtorch
Warren Buffett is one of the wealthiest men in the world.  But he pays a lower tax rate than his secretary.  That’s just the way the system is set up.  In fact, one in four millionaires pays a lower tax rate than millions of hardworking middle-class households. Ah, the Alinsky personalization and polarization. I love the smell of your radical Community Organizer nonsense in the morning. It smells like Communism. Wait, I don’t love that smell; it’s vomit inducing.

Anyway, the weather is far too nice to dwell on more Obama piffle. Let another blogger pick up the Fisk.

Helping Instapundit See The Sense In What We’re Doing Right Now

Current U.S. policy comes into sharp focus if you presume that the intent is economic slavery for all. Instapundit points to the WaPoo, where Sheila Bair is on about loaning $10 Million to everybody as a means of ‘fixing’ income inequality.

Sweet, sweet fascism: taking your Creator-granted liberty, packaging it, and returning it with more strings attached than a parachute factory. Even without the explicit loaning of such funds, as snarkily suggested by Bair, this cynical swap of freedom of action in exchange for (supposed) freedom from want is the heart of the Progressive crack we’ve publicly smoked for the last century. “Zimbabwe” Ben Bernanke inflates the currency, the stock market goes up, and #OccupyResoluteDesk’s poll numbers improve (oh, wait).

Call it our economic perpetual motion machine. $10 million? Why not $100? The long term goal of Progressivism is reduction of all to state slavery. Bonus points for loudly claiming to care about women, minorities, nature, fairness, and anything else with emotional appeal along the way. Liberty, you see, was vastly overrated.

It Could Conceivably Be Worse

My post-primary depression has been hard to shake. Not even dancing up and down on Hilary Rosen cheered me up much.

But it could be worse. I could a North Korean rocket scientist.

I mean, think about that: You’re a freaking rocket scientist. But you’re in North Korea, arguably the worst totalitarian nightmare since the reign of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Nevertheless, your rocket-science skills made you one of the most important people in North Korea.

Until your rocket blew up.

Sucks to be you, huh?

As bad as it would be to be a North Korean rocket scientist, it might actually be more humiliating to be a North Carolina Democrat:

Jay Parmley, North Carolina’s Democratic Party executive director, has  been accused of sexual harassment by Adriadn Ortega, a former communications  staffer for the state party, according to a report by the J.W.P. Civitas  Institute.
An email chain The Daily Caller previously  obtained didn’t name the alleged perpetrator or the victim, but confirmed  the existence of the alleged sexual harassment, a financial settlement paid to  the victim and that Parmley and the victim had signed non-disclosure agreements.  Civitas has since reported the names of those involved.
On his Twitter account, Parmley describes himself as an “all around good guy  and a Democrat!”

Anyway, I’m bummed out by the end of the primary campaign, but are we really Doomed Beyond All Hope of Redemption?

Ace of Spades doesn’t think so. He thinks Obama’s failures are so transparently obvious that even Peggy Joseph has probably wised up by now. On the other hand, Ace once believed Rick Perry was going all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, so we should keep that in mind.

What about William Tucker of the American Spectator?

Call me crazy, but I think Mitt Romney has more than an even chance of winning this election against Barack Obama.

OK, then — I’m calling you crazy.

Still, I should look on the bright side: If even smart guys like Ace and William Tucker can convince themselves that Mitt Romney actually has a legit chance at winning in November, then lots of other people probably believe the same thing. So I can write about the general-election campaign pretending that I believe it, too. And then on  Nov. 7, after everybody’s naive dreams of a Romney victory have come crashing down like a North Korean rocket, I can say: “Chumps! Ain’t I done told you so?”

As long as I’ve got something to look forward to . . .

Ann Romney stepped into the White House’s line of fire by handling the situation … with absolute perfection.
And as she did, let me assure you, Obama’s Media Palace Guards completely freaked out.
Welcome to what will surely become “Palin II: The Nuclear Option.”
We all remember how John McCain so shook up the 2008 race with the VP choice of Governor Sarah Palin, that awful, terrible, no good college-educated, self-made mayor and governor who raised herself a lovely family. And we all remember, how for these sins, a full-court media rampage immediately began that was determined to destroy her. The media lied about Sarah Palin’s record, lied about the massive crowds that came out to see her, and worst of all, they attacked her children.
What we learned from this is that when it comes to protecting the Left and most especially Barack Obama, any virtue the other side holds that might hurt Their Precious One, must be annihilated. Furthermore, Ann Romney isn’t just an asset to her husband’s campaign, she’s also a direct threat to the very heart of Obama’s cynical reelection plans.

Seen through that lens, the Progressive War on Women comes partly into focus. Like the over-the-top assault on Rush Limbaugh over the Sarah Fluke disparagement, which had apparently been on the shelf for a while before instantiation, this seemingly random attack on Ann makes more sense as a leftover attack on Sarah Palin that was dusted off and launched.

Propaganda, too, begs for recycling. The Left invested so much effort into demonizing Sarah Palin that they probably couldn’t help themselves even with a 12-step program.

Given the Limbaugh-limbo and the Romney-o-rama, the Bush whacking this summer promises to be so excruciating, you’ll think yourself in Germany and W of Semitic extraction. This is because, as I realized this afternoon and commented on another post, Progressivism is an allergy to reality, and therefore must always be on the attack.

This is not just a war of tired old feminists who are trying to justify the fact that most of them paid illegal, undereducated women, many of whom speak little or no English, to raise their children. This transcends Leftist feminist sensibilities and touches upon a core issue in statism — namely, who raises the children?
A small, but relevant, digression here: One of the most interesting books I’ve ever read is Joshua Muravchik’s Heaven On Earth: The Rise and Fall of Socialism. The title is self-explanatory. I highly recommend the book, simply because it’s so good, but I mention it here because of the chapter involving Israeli kibbutzim, which were intended to represent the purest form of voluntary socialism. Part of the socialist experiment was that children would be raised, not within family units, but as part of the cooperative. Only in that way could the kibbutz defeat unhealthy, selfish individualism and assure a new generation of people dedicated to the movement.

This triggers an idea for a truly bad combination Greek tragedy and Southern romance novel: Antigone with the Wind.

If The Strategy Was Always Propaganda, Why Is A Charging Instrument That Sounds Like The Squawk Of A Sexually Aroused Gas Mask A Surprise?

Allahpundit is confused, probably because he’s screwing up and attempting rational analysis of a Lefty ploy again:

I don’t understand Corey’s strategy in charging him with murder two. Maybe she thinks Zimmerman will plead to a lesser charge, but if it’s anything less than manslaughter she’s going to take tremendous heat for having gone too easy on him. That’s a weird predicament for a politically-minded prosecutor to put herself in. She’ll take some heat even if she gets him to cop to manslaughter, in fact, since manslaughter is a crime of simple negligence and people who want him prosecuted believe Zimmerman’s far more morally culpable than that. (This is all assuming he’d be willing to make a deal, which, given the weakness of the charging instrument, he probably isn’t.) In fact, I also don’t get why she insisted on filing an affidavit of probable cause instead of taking the case to a grand jury. If they refused to indict him, she could have blamed them for him getting off and claimed she’d given it her best effort. As it is, if Dershowitz is right, her own affidavit’s about to be tossed by a judge and then she’ll have to answer for why she couldn’t even get to first base on a conviction.

Allah, Allah, Allah. If the Left had facts, they’d pound the facts. If they had law, they’d pound the law. Having neither, they’re setting up to pound the courts.

Law is based upon reason, and a reasonable person sees through the farce at work, as the truly sad death of a little boy is molded, claylike, into something completely different. The judge is going to apply reason, and reject this, and the Left is going to cry foul. And there will be an appeal. And it will fail upward, rolling up to the SCOTUS, if possible.

The Left will blame the courts, and try to use this as a rallying point to whip up the troops about these ‘activist’ judges who are denying ‘justice’ to Trayvon. What a despicable, evil act that will be, if it unfolds that way. I’d like to be wrong, but the patter of the last three years is nothing if not consistent in its diabolical, omnidirectional attack on all we hold dear.

The interesting question, after all this, will be George Zimmerman’s take. He’s being crucified on the false cross of the Left’s quest for power. Does he break, and blame himself, or does he realize what a sick, Satanic scam the Left is running?
