McEnroe offers:

I’m not going to make a big deal out of this. Who wants to hear somebody natter on with the whole ‘mine is better’ argument? Just because my notion, #OccupyResoluteDesk had more educational value (everyone knows the POTUS sits in the Oval Office; how many know that the furniture he’s crouching behind in the picture there is called the Resolute Desk?).

Sure, McEnroe’s idea leaves room to turn it up a notch with #OccupyOvalOrifice, for that extra bit of sphincter allusion. But what about that Resolute Desk, that remnant of HMS Resolute? Everybody and his Kenyan half-brother can offer the brown eye for the Commie guy gag, but what about the subtle British connection, given BHO’s repeated insults of Old Blighty?

But nah, I’m all about being a team player. My ideas need not receive any recognition, any praise, any traction. It’s OK. Just happy for the privilege to have served. It’s all good. I love you, man.

Bill Quick links to Red State discussion of the plans for #OccupyCPAC.

Let’s face facts: CPAC is a high-risk evolution. I’m talking about traveling to and from a major hotel in the capital city of the country, in daylight hours, using a mix of public and private transportation. That is really living on the edge, isn’t it?

Except that our President, #OccupyResoluteDesk, has engendered conditions such that these #Occupy losers can flaunt civic ordnances, and bully law-abiding tax payers with thuggish behavior. The president has sympathized and abetted these #Occupy losers. What a disgusting insult to our heritage.

While trying to keep the tone civil here, I am close to shaking with rage. Unfortunately, in trying to ensure that the country I hand over to the World’s Youngest Blogger at least somewhat resembles the land of opportunity in which I grew, I cannot go risking a six-month-old to these Occupy losers. They are going to have to be permitted to win that much.

Last night I went to a new ‘salon’ (I think it may be a snooty bar or something) called Empire Unplugged, for their inaugural talking head fest on the Federal Reserve. The video is kind of lousy, and still pulling in to Final Cut Pro X for what I hope will be a stimulating series of posts.

To whet the appetite, Reuters has an article about “Bicycle Pump” Ben Bernanke pushing still more hot air:

“The basic reason for low long-term rates, which are also a feature of every other industrial economy, are low inflation, slow expected growth and the fact that the dollar is a safe haven,” Bernanke said.
Paul Ryan, the committee’s Republican chairman, took issue with the central bank’s new 2 percent inflation target, saying a Fed policy statement last week suggested it would be willing to tolerate higher inflation nonetheless.
Bernanke pushed back against that idea: “We are not seeking higher inflation, we do not want higher inflation and we’re not tolerating higher inflation.”

As Bill Quick notes, energy costs are substantially up. However, as Stacy noted this morning on the job numbers, integrity is not our government’s strong suit.

Returning to the topic of interest rates, pegging the prime at 0 seems both to crush the value of passbook savings accounts over time, as well as render lending to the sort of people who have money in passbook savings accounts an unprofitable idea. Bernanke seems to have argued against his current policies in a paper a dozen years ago: “Japanese monetary policy: a case of self-induced paralysis?” which is oddly challenging to track down on the internet.

If I was the paranoid sort, I might be tempted to speculate that current Federal Reserve policies are about destroying liberty and increasing dependence upon the state. But our elected officials are nice boys; they wouldn’t do anything like that.

Only Roseanne Barr Can Save Us From The Chinese Pollution Menace!

Never mind that she doesn’t appear to have a campaign website, we’ve got to support Roseanne Barr for POTUS. Bill Quick, in the link, is casting all kinds of skeptical eye upon the news that Chinese pollution is visible from space.

Forget that noise. We’ve got to behind Barr’s candidacy:

Barr used the language of the Occupy Wall Street movement during her announcement on Thursday, calling on the 99% of Americans to help power her cause. She’s long been identified as a populist figure; her sitcom “Roseanne,” which ran from 1988 to 1997, offered a refreshingly realistic look at working-class life at a time when TV shows like “Dallas” and “Dynasty” were peddling high-end glamour. Barr is now developing a new sitcom at NBC called “Downwardly Mobile,” set in a mobile home community.

If Stacy’s Vanuatu gig falls through, maybe Barr will hire him as a fashion consultant for “Downwardly Mobile”.

Then again, we really have to vote for Barr, especially in the absence of Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton on the ticket in 2012. If we voted for Barack in 2008 to prove we are not raaaaacist surely we must vote Roseanne in 2012 to prove we are not sexist.

Also, Roseanne’s candidacy will be so whacky that Barack will appear centrist in contrast. Mitt Romney was unavailable for comment, having returned to Madame Tussaud’s for a touch-up.

Finally, Roseanne will alter the arc of the U.S. transformation into a European welfare state. We’ll get an Australian one, instead:

Lying With Numbers: How Obama Has Corrupted the Bureau of Labor Statistics

Tyler Durden digs down and discovers that the BLS understates the labor force by 5 million people, so it can report an 8.3 percent unemployment rate instead of the actual 11.5 percent rate. Furthermore — do they really think we’re this stupid? — the BLS reported that the labor force decreased by 1.2 million people in a single month.

This is the kind of blatant manipulation of government statistics we used to see from the Soviet Union, in its effort to convince the world that socialism worked. And the similarity may not be accidental, eh?

Beyond the shameless politicization of federal agency data, however, the larger problem is this: Businesses, especially in the financial services sector, need reliable information about economic activity in order to plan their operations. When the BLS cannot be relied on for such data, it adds to the uncertainty that drives investment out of the private sector.
