Unfortunately, one of the casualties of our server move this week was the sooper-sekrit software which makes doing the FMJRA merely difficult instead of damn near impossible. Smitty is working on the issue, but for now the best I can do is list our top linkers:

Ouch! New Poll Shows Perry at 7% in Iowa

The headline on the Des Moines Register story is “Herman Cain, Mitt Romney lead new Iowa Poll,” but when you break down the numbers, the really shocking result is farther down:

Herman Cain …………………. 23%

Ron Paul ……………………….. 13%
Michele Bachmann ………….. 8%
Rick Perry ………………… 7%
Newt Gingrich …………………. 7%
Rick Santorum …………………. 5%
Jon Huntsman …………………. 1%

Perry tied for fifth place? This poll was taken Oct. 23-26 (Sunday through Wednesday), entirely after the Oct. 18 Vegas debate, during a period when the media were heavily reporting Perry’s new tax plan and …

Fifth place? Single digits? Wedged between Bachmann and Santorum?

Perry put $174,000 into a TV ad campaign that started Tuesday in Iowa. As far as I know, Perry is the only candidate now running TV ads in Iowa, so he’s likely to see his numbers rise between now and mid-November. We’re still 65 days from the Iowa caucuses, but Perry’s got a lot of ground to make up if he’s going to avoid an embarrassment.

And the really scary thing: Romney wasn’t supposed to be a player in Iowa, and yet he’s neck-and-neck for the lead. Romney is almost certain to win New Hampshire. If he also wins Iowa . . . dude, game over.

Thanks! My knowledge of computer hardware is so primitive I don’t know why this particular computer costs more than $900, but because you bought it through the Amazon Associates link here at the blog, I got a sweet 4% commission of $37.99.

We’re coming up on the end of the month, and one way readers can help support the blog is by shopping via our Amazon Associates links: Books, clothing, gourmet food, electronics — they sell everything at Amazon, and everything you buy through the links here kicks me a 4% commission. Somebody bought Bose QuietComfort noise-cancelling headphones for $349.95 (a $14 commission for me) and somebody else ordered a countertop combination microwave/conventional oven for $182.99, kicking me a $7.32 commission.

With just three purchases, then, these readers put $59.31 in my pockets. Although most purchases via our Amazon Associates links were much smaller, every little bit helps and it adds up. It doesn’t matter, by the way, what you buy: Click any Amazon link on the page, browse around, make your purchase and — as long as you reached Amazon through the link here — I get the 4% commission.
