The Cain Doctrine: ‘You Mess With Israel, You Are Messing With the United States’

“It’s that simple,” he tells Neil Cavuto:
Meanwhile, The Right Scoop also has this video of Charles Krauthammer dissing Herman Cain as mere “entertainment”:
Wow. I never thought I’d see the day when I agreed more with Tucker Carlson than with Krauthammer.

A Kinsleyan Gaffe?
Posted on | May 20, 2011 | 5 Comments
Michael Kinsley once defined a gaffe as when a politician accidentally tells the truth. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
“Unfortunately there are some parents who just come from — they never had a formal education, and they don’t understand the value of education.”
Which is certainly true of “some parents,” although it is unclear whether this observation justifies the closure of 22 poorly performing schools in New York City, which is the argument Bloomberg was trying to make.
I think it might be more accurate to say that people who haven’t had much formal education are ill-equipped to judge whether or not their child’s school is doing a good job. And I think it is also true that poor people don’t have many options if their local school is doing a lousy job.
Furthermore, I’ll say this: Education is an individual achievement. You teach a class, but learning is always up to the individual student.
Perhaps Mayor Bloomberg should consult with Herman Cain, who was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” in the Archer High School Class of 1963.
Successful Propaganda

Gallup reports that, for the first time ever, a majority of poll respondents favor same-sex marriage. Note the large and rapid change in opinion:
A mere 15 years ago, Americans opposed same-sex marriage by more than a 2-to-1 margin, 68% to 27%, whereas now the number is 53%-45% in support of same-sex marriage.
“The fantastical project of yesterday, which was mentioned only to be ridiculed, is today the audacious reform, and will be tomorrow the accomplished fact.”
– R.L. Dabney, 1897
The propaganda campaign which produced this revolution in public opinion will not abate or slacken. And we might suppose that, in a few more years, it will be deemed socially unacceptable — if not indeed a “hate crime” — to criticize homosexual behavior.
2012 Candidates Not Named ‘Herman’
Posted on | May 20, 2011 | 14 Comments
It’s kinda been all-Herman, all-the-time here lately, so let me update you on what’s going on with the non-Hermans:
- Democrats are running attack ads against Mitt Romney in South Carolina. Exactly why Democrats would be monkeying around in a GOP primary is an interesting question. (Hat-tip: Ann Althouse.)
- America braces for the onset of T-Paw Fever: Tim Pawlenty will official announce his candidacy on Monday. (Hat-tip: Jim Antle.) We are reminded that Tim Pawlenty is a nice guy, which no one ever denied.
- Fox News contributor Sarah Palin hasn’t yet decided whether she wants to run for president or continue to be a Fox News contributor. You’ll remember that Newt Gingrich had to quit his Fox gig, while Mike Huckabee decided to keep his. (Hat-tip: Doug Mataconis.)
- Some Republicans are begging Chris Christie to get in the 2012 race, despite such stout denials as, “Short of suicide, I don’t really know what I’d have to do to convince you people that I’m not running. I’m not running.” (Hat-tip: Instapundit.)
- Mitt Romney accused Obama of having thrown Israel under the bus. Tim Pawlenty, Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum agreed. (Via Memeorandum.)
- Ron Paul on the neocon warmonger in the White House: “Our military is already dangerously extended, and this administration wants to expand our involvement. When will our bombing in Libya end? Is President Obama seriously considering military action against Syria? We are facing $2 trillion dollar [sic] deficits, and the American taxpayer cannot afford any of it.” (Hat-tip: Weasel Zippers.)
- Kimberly Strassel of the Wall Street Journal trashed the GOP field, which sort of makes her omission of Herman Cain OK, I guess.
- Rick Santorum says Newt Gingrich did “serious damage” to the Republican Party. (Hat-tip: Lisa Graas.)
- Jon Huntsman is to New Hampshire what Justin Bieber is to 11-year-old girls? Whatever. He’ll suck moderate votes away from Romney, which is all that matters. (Hat-tip: Jazz Shaw.)
And finally, Newt Gingrich becomes a punchline:
We now return you to your regularly-scheduled (neutral and objective) reminder to join the online grassroots army at Citizens for Cain.
Did Bibi Diss Obama?

That’s what Jeffrey Goldberg says, but Professor William Jacobson springs to the defense of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Yet it is also reported that Netanyahu feels disrespected by President Obama, so that the question is, “Who dissed whom?”
All in all, this atmosphere of mutual disrespect bodes ill for prospects of Mideast peace, arousing suspicions that Obama is purposefully attempting to provoke Netanyahu, just as there are suspicions that perhaps Obama’s speech incited Palestinian unrest.

It’s Hard to Beat a Man …

. . . who refuses to quit. Haley Barbour quit. Donald Trump quit. Mike Huckabee quit. Guess who didn’t quit?
Four years ago at the studios of WSB Radio in Atlanta, I interviewed talk-radio host Herman Cain, who had only recently recovered from cancer. He smiled as he vowed, “Death’s going to have to catch me, and it’s going to have to run fast.”
Cain is smiling more than ever now, and running strong with a Republican presidential campaign that has surged to national prominence since the May 5 debate in Greenville, S.C. In a Fox News focus group of South Carolina GOP voters following that debate, pollster Frank Luntz asked for a show of hands: “How many of you think Herman Cain won the debate?” More than half the participants raised their hands. Luntz was flabbergasted, calling the result “unprecedented.” Luntz then went around the room, asking what it was that made the retired restaurant executive so appealing.
“He’s likeable,” one man said, summarizing a key factor in Cain’s campaign that seems to elude pundits. For the past two weeks, the political intelligentsia has struggled to understand how the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, who has never held elective office, could have suddenly emerged as a contender in a crowded Republican 2012 primary field. It’s never been a mystery to Cain’s communication director Ellen Carmichael.
“When people meet Herman, they like Herman,” she explained in a phone interview a few weeks before the Fox News debate in which 2 million viewers met Cain for the first time. . . .
That’s from my latest American Spectator column and you should read the whole thing. And you should watch this wonderful video:

Like 31 Flavors of AWESOME: Yeah, My Son Jim Is Graduating High School Today
Posted on | May 20, 2011 | 22 Comments
Regular readers will perhaps best know Jim for the work he did last year to fix the engine on the famous 2004 KIA Optima:
Of course, that expensive repair job was just weeks before the car got wiped out by the “Whitetail Jihad.” We’ve now got all the parts to do that job, but the labor has been kind of busy. Jim will now have more time to devote to the task of fixing the KIA, because this morning he graduates from Ebenezer Christian School. You can visit Jim’s Facebook page, or just post your congratulations in the comments.
And you should hit the tip jar as hard as a deer hitting a KIA Optima. Now that he’s a high-school graduate, Jim might actually expect me to pay him for all his car-repair work.
