Obama Demands That Taxpayers Fund Sexual Pleasure Training for Girl Scouts
Posted on | March 6, 2011 | 7 Comments
Planned Parenthood wants to teach Girl Scouts to be “Healthy, Happy and Hot,” and the president and Senate Democrats insist that U.S. taxpayers help them do it:
President Barack Obama would veto the House-approved long-term spending bill for the federal government that contains the Pence Amendment, a measure that would de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. . . .
[T]he Washington Times indicates “Obama has issued a veto threat on that bill, saying House Republicans’ cuts are unacceptable.”
“Senate Democrats said the non-spending provisions of the bill — such as restrictions on Planned Parenthood and on Obama administration rules and regulations — will also have to be struck,” the Times continues.
Obama’s adamant insistence on funding Planned Parenthood contradicts his 2008 campaign statements about abortion, Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit observes, calling Obama “the most radical pro-abortion and infanticide president in the last 35 years.” (Hat-tip: That Mr. G Guy.)
This isn’t just about abortion, even though Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America. Giving taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood puts the imprimatur of the U.S. government — an official endorsement — on everything the organization does, including its campaign to impose “comprehensive sexuality education” on children.
Money is fungible. Defenders of federal funding for Planned Parenthood claim that taxpayer dollars aren’t used for abortion, that tax money is only used for (supposedly benign) “family planning” services. But any accountant could see the bottom line, where the stated purpose of taxpayer funding is irrelevant. A dollar is a dollar, it’s all going to the same place, and Planned Parenthood certainly isn’t hurting for cash:
PPFA’s income for fiscal year 2008-2009 was more than $1.1 billion (up six percent from 2007-2008), with nearly one-third coming from taxpayers. This “not-for-profit” entity ends virtually every fiscal year with tens of millions of dollars in “excess revenue over expenses” (known to most people as “profit”). The “excess” for 2008-2009 alone was $64.4 million.
On June 30, 2009, PPFA had net assets valued at $994.7 million, of which $396.3 million was unrestricted (essentially a savings account) and $179.9 million was temporarily restricted. Despite these huge sums, PPFA incessantly claims to need more taxpayer dollars.
Someone in the White House press corps needs to ask questions about President Obama’s priorities: At a time when federal deficits are out of control, why is the president threatening to veto legislation that doesn’t include funding for Planned Parenthood?
UPDATE: Thanks to frequent commenter Adobe Walls for pointing out that Kirsten Powers has seen through Planned Parenthood’s self-serving mythos:
Turns out, a 2009 study by the journal Contraception found, in a 10-year study of women in Spain, that as overall contraceptive use increased from around 49 percent to 80 percent, the elective abortion rate more than doubled. . . .
A January 2011 fact sheet by the pro-abortion rights Guttmacher Institute listed all the reasons that women who have had an abortion give for their unexpected pregnancy, and not one of them is lack of access to contraception. In fact, 54 percent of women who had abortions had used a contraceptive method, if incorrectly, in the month they got pregnant.
More contraception = more abortion. Pro-lifers have long sought to call attention to this fact, which seems so counterintuitive to those who’ve bought into the claims of the Contraceptive Culture.
The reason why abortion rates rise as contraceptive use becomes more frequent is a matter of “complex causation,” as social scientists would say. Yet the fact is that every method of contraception has a failure rate. The more often people use contraceptives, the greater the number of failures — i.e., “unwanted pregnancies.” In a society that prescribes abortion as the best response to “unwanted pregnancy,” there will necessarily be an increased number of abortions in tandem with the increase in contraceptive use.
This can be seen simply as a function of the Law of Large Numbers, especially when people are indoctrinated with the idea that sex without the possibility of pregnancy is “normal,” which is what the Contraceptive Culture would have us believe.
For further thoughts on this topic, please see my March 2010 essay, “The Pill at 50: Unhappy Un-Birthday.” And just in case you didn’t click through the earlier link to learn about the sexual agenda Planned Parenthood is imposing on Girl Scouts, let me show you:
Click the images to see the whole 20-page “Healthy, Happy and Hot” pamphlet, which was distributed to Girl Scouts by Planned Parenthood. Because teaching Girl Scouts about “sexual pleasure” is obviously what U.S. taxpayers want, right?

‘Sheen’s Korner’: Not Winning

Brutal reviews for Charlie Sheen’s Saturday night Webcast. Chris Nashawaty called it “a sloppy, self-indulgent bit of cringe theater” featuring “a posse of chuckleheads and enablers.”
About 115,000 people tuned in to watch the godawful disaster, according to USA Today. One of the viewers, Michael van Poppel said, “Wish I could get my 50 minutes back.” Another viewer, Sarah Rumpf, said: “I don’t have the expertise to diagnose Sheen as bipolar but somethin ain’t right with that boy.”
Kinda ironic: While Sheen was on the Internet making an even bigger fool of himself — if such a thing were possible — I was watching my 18-year-old son performing a lead part in the senior play at his high school.
Much more entertaining, if the critics are to be believed.
UPDATE: If you’d care to waste an hour of your life (unless, perhaps, you’re a grad student in abnormal psychology, in which case this might be worth a thesis) here’s the video:
UPDATE II: Listing the show’s “most awkward moments” — apparently not content to say “from start to finish” and be done with it — Bryan Alexander of the Hollywood Reporter calls it “cable access at its worst”:
“Now what? We’re out of material,” [Sheen] admitted at one point.
That was obvious. Or to re-quote Sheen, “duh!”
The sound quality was atrocious, the lighting inadequate and the “guests” neither very bright nor attractive. But other than that . . .
UPDATE III: Holman Jenkins of the Wall Street Journal explains what CBS and Warner Brothers executives are thinking:
CBS got seven good years from Charlie Sheen playing Charlie Sheen, prolonging CBS’s run as the “hot network.” Warner has 177 episodes in the can, more than enough to bring in huge bucks for years . . .
All in all, our legal departments are probably right: A bullet has been dodged. Mr. Sheen could have flamed out in year two instead of year eight. He could have flamed out in a way that killed our investment altogether. Phew. . . .
We sewed ourselves into a corner and then, Charlie, you got us out. Thanks. You went on radio and maniacally slurred our highly valued colleague, Chuck Lorre, producer of “Men” and two other shows that arguably are even more important right now to our future. You crossed a line no self-respecting business in America could tolerate.
Even more, every time you open your mouth, the “$320 million” lawsuit you keep threatening to bring becomes more of a farfetched longshot.
Yeah, they got their money’s worth out of Charlie and he gave them an easy out at just the time when they needed an easy out.

Pundette was writing about the latest United Nations outrage — teaching kids masturbation and oral sex to combat “heterosexism” — and in the process linked to this U.N.-related story you might have missed:
The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations [in March 2010] where Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled “Healthy, Happy and Hot.” . . .
The brochure claims, “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse… But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!” . . .
The Girl Scouts, along with the YWCA have been co-moderating a young women’s caucus that included an “Intergenerational Conversation” side event on “universal access” and “reproductive health.” One recent Girl Scout project “aims at securing the right of women, men and adolescents aged between ten and twenty-five, to better reproductive and sexual health.”
Here is the cover and just one of 20 pages of this Planned Parenthood “Healthy, Happy and Hot” pamphlet:
Those of you old enough to think of Girl Scouts in terms of crafts, camping and cooking are probably astonished by this, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that the national Girl Scouts organization has been hijacked by radical feminists.
Might as well send them camping with Charlie Sheen . . .
Losing My Blog Readership in Tripoli
Posted on | March 5, 2011 | 4 Comments
The Libyan regime has apparently shut down the Internet again, which means that no one there will be able to keep track of Charlie Sheen’s latest exploits. Meanwhile, Libyan rebels have announced formation of a republic. And here’s an update on the military situation:
Forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi waged a second offensive against the western town of Zawiyah on Saturday after rebels drove them out in a morning of fierce fighting, while in the east, opponents of the Libyan strongman pushed toward his hometown.
In a second day of fierce fighting for control of Zawiyah, 50 km (30 miles) west of Tripoli, government forces retreated to the outskirts early in the day but later mounted a counter-offensive. Rebels said both attacks were repelled. The city bore the signs of heavy fighting, with one building completely burned and smoldering rubble littering the center. Other buildings around the main square, the stronghold of rebel resistance, were riddled with holes from large-caliber weapons.
Rebels in eastern Libya said they were pushing further west after driving forces loyal to Gaddafi from the oil town of Ras Lanuf on Friday. Opposition fighters said they had taken the town of Bin Jawad some 525 km east of Tripoli and were moving on toward Sirte, Gaddafi’s heavily guarded home town 160 km (100 miles) away.
The capture of Ras Lanuf is a major victory for the Libyan rebels. Here is a video report:
With gasoline now reportedly selling for more than $5 a gallon in Florida, Americans may wonder what the Obama administration is doing about the Libyan crisis. And the answer is, “Not a whole lot.”
While we have no more reason to support the Libyan rebels than we did to support the uprising in Egypt — an Islamic “republic” might be even worse than a dictatorship — it appears that a rebel victory would be the quickest way to end the current crisis. And ending the current crisis would be the quickest way to (a) lower gas prices and (b) letting Libyans back onto the Internet to check for Charlie Sheen updates.
There’s no point blogging if no one’s reading it. Research indicates that Libyan men really admire Charlie Sheen, so the Qaddafi regime’s Internet shutdown is hurting my traffic.
Such are my own personal foreign-policy priorities. Yeah, “human rights,” blah, blah, blah — but $5 a gallon for regular unleaded sucks.
Charlie Sheen’s Hollywood Bedlam
Posted on | March 5, 2011 | 19 Comments
“Bedlam,” final scene of William Hogarth’s series “A Rake’s Progress” (1735)
“”I’m tired of pretending I’m not special. I’m tired of pretending like I’m not bitchin’, a total freaking rock star from Mars.”
— Charlie Sheen, Feb. 28, 2011
Last night, the Trainwreck Called Charlie Tweeted that Rachel Oberlin — a/k/a, porn performer “Bree Olson,” the more attractive of the two not-very-attractive “goddesses” with whom Charlie has been shacking up — had split the scene:
People magazine reports that Oberlin/Olson may have returned, but trying to figure out the complicated erotic entanglements inside “Sober Valley Lodge” requires more effort than it probably deserves.
What is interesting, however, is that Oberlin’s mother is reportedly worried about her living with Charlie Sheen. One might have thought that Mrs. Oberlin had more reason to worry when, in 2008, her daughter won an award for “Best Anal Scene” in a porn video whose title we won’t repeat here. Let’s pause to contemplate the moral universe in which being sodomized on camera is OK, but living with a millionaire TV star is cause for concern.
Having stared momentarily into that abyss, let’s permit Craig Ferguson to put some historical perspective on what’s really happening here:
There was a mental hospital in London, it’s been there for a very long time. It started as a priory in I think the 12th or 13th century. Anyway, it’s called Bedlam. And what happened was, in the 18th century, people used to go along and pay money — they would pay a penny — and they would look through the peepholes of the cells. And they would look at the lunatics and they would laugh at them. …
In one of his several recent media interviews, Sheen referenced the fact that he starred in an Oscar-winner — Oliver Stone’s Platoon (Best Picture, 1986) — when he was just 20 years old. As with Hogarth’s tale of Tom Rakewell’s degeneracy in “A Rake’s Progress,” Sheen was a young man of almost infinite promise, and there is something of genuine tragedy in his having become the punchline of jokes like Sheen Wars:
Amusing enough for us as spectators, so long as we can ignore the tragic dimension, and forget the humanity of a man so obviously nearing the end of the road to complete self-destruction:
He is trying very hard to convey the impression that he’s having fun — “Winning!” – but I’ll bet it’s a lot less fun than it looks.
For all his arrogant ranting about “tiger blood” and “Adonis DNA,” Charlie Sheen must be desperately embarrassed by the mess he’s made of his life. He may yet be able to redeem himself, but in the meantime we are transfixed by his lunacy, like those 18th-century Englishmen paying a penny to peek through the peephole at the inmates of Bedlam.
Incompetent, Yes, But Also Stupid: How Carol Moseley Braun Lost the Black Vote
Posted on | March 5, 2011 | 19 Comments
Black voters in Chicago chose Rahm Emanuel over Carol Moseley Braun, which Instapundit suggests indicates their preferrence for “a white guy who seemed, you know, kinda competent, and who was willing to ask for their votes.”
When Moseley Braun announced her candidacy, I said that this was the only possible justification for electing Emanuel. This judgment was based Moseley Braun’s career as the Worst Senator Ever. Even Chicago doesn’t deserve a mayor that bad, and her rejection by black voters there is very encouraging. Still, it took a special kind of stupid to accomplish this transcendence of racial identity politics:
In a series of internal campaign e-mails . . . David Schaffer, an adviser to Ms. Braun, said “all factors” indicated that Ms. Braun would finish second and qualify for a runoff election against Rahm Emanuel by winning the vast majority of black votes.
“We remain confident — with a high degree of certainty — that Carol has 50 percent of the AA [African-American] vote today and will have at least 60 percent (hopefully more) by election day,” Mr. Schaffer wrote in an e-mail on Feb. 15. A week later, Ms. Braun, the former United States senator, finished fourth in the six-candidate field with no more than 23 percent backing in any ward. . . .
Mike Noonan, Ms. Braun’s campaign manager, said the candidate and aides like Mr. Schaffer changed campaign strategy on the assumption that Ms. Braun was guaranteed the support of blacks when black leaders chose her as the community’s consensus candidate.
“It was a terrible mistake,” Mr. Noonan said this week. “The thinking was: ‘Why waste our time with African-American voters? They have no other place to go.’ ”
People will see in this tale what they want to see, but it offers three very important points about politics:
- You have to ask for their votes — This is just Politics 101. Nothing is more important in a campaign than campaigning: Having the candidate get face-to-face with voters and ask them to vote for him. This is how Scott Brown beat Martha Coakley in Massachusetts, for example — he drove around in a truck, shook people’s hands and asked them to vote for him. For all the talk about “messaging” and “strategy,” it is nice occasionally to be reminded that old-fashioned campaigning still matters.
- Good candidates run good campaigns — A political candidate is CEO of his own campaign, with full authority to hire or fire anyone on the staff. It is always wrong to attempt to excuse a losing campaign by blaming it on the staff because, after all, who hired the staff? Hillary Clinton’s doomstruck 2008 campaign, when she frittered away a seemingly insurmountable early advantage, was a classic example of this principle. If she had campaigned throughout 2007 as hard as she was campaigning by the time she got to Pennsylvania, Obama never would have stood a chance. But she began by hiring the wrong people and allowing them to implement the wrong strategy (and spend too much money) in 2007, and that’s how she lost. It was entirely her own fault, however: If a campaign isn’t working, if the staff is making bad decisions, it’s up to the candidate to intervene and make the necessary changes.
- Campaigning is a test for governing — Let’s admit that their are politicians who are good at getting elected and re-elected and yet bad at everything else. Neverthless, someone who can’t organize a winning campaign is unlikely to be able to manage the responsibilities of public office. This is why competitive elections are so important to good government in a democraic system. If incumbents never have to fight for re-election, there is less incentive to governmental competence. Elected offices become filled with incompetent party hacks, who employ cronies in staff positions, and there is no one with any real “insider” access who has any motive to blow the whistle on corruption.
That we are talking about Chicago in this context si not entirely coincidental. Whenever I say that Chicago is the most corrupt city in American, my friends from Louisiana claim that I’ve deprived New Orleans of its hard-won distinction. What both cities have in common (and a trait they share with nearly every major city in America), is that they are uncontested Democratic fiefdoms. And if the GOP is effectively dead in such places, whose fault is that?
If the Republican Party refuses to invest the time and money it takes to improve its electoral apparatus in urban America, if the GOP is willing to cede the cities without a fight, then Republicans ought not complain about the consequences — including the awful fate of Chicagoans having to choose Rahm Emanuel as the best-qualified candidate for mayor.
URGENT CHARLIE SHEEN UPDATE
Posted on | March 5, 2011 | 32 Comments
There was a sudden surge of traffic caused by people Googling “Charlie+Sheen+insane,” which tipped me there might be some breaking news involving the deranged narcissist. So I checked, and there’s this from the Los Angeles Times:
Charlie Sheen’s estranged wife said this week that the TV star vowed to decapitate her and send her severed head to her mother. But Brooke Mueller’s statements filed in court are not enough for the Los Angeles Police Department to open a criminal investigation.
This week a judge issued a temporary restraining order against Sheen, who has pleaded no contest twice on domestic violence charges. But LAPD officials said they’ve determined that they can only launch a probe if Mueller files a complaint, which as of Friday she has not.
“It is incumbent on her to come forward and make a police report,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Mitzi Grasso. “Our hands are tied.”
There’s also this bizarre headline:
Charlie Sheen latest:
‘I’m Jewish, off to Haiti’Sheen . . . said he should have mentioned his Jewishness when he was accused of anti-Semitism last week.
“My mom is Jewish. . . . So, I guess that would make me Jewish, and my children Jewish.
“And Brooke, my ex-wife is Jewish. So, I guess I should’ve rolled all that out too,” he added.
(Of course, he reportedly threatened to kill his ex-wife, but …)
In his latest interview Friday, Sheen revealed that he plans to travel to quake- and disease-wracked Haiti, with actor friend Sean Penn. “We’re going to do a couple things first and then it looks like we’re heading down,” he said.
“I’m excited as hell because, you know, if I can bring the attention of the world down there, then clearly this tsunami keeps cresting,” he added.
News of Sheen’s impending visit will surely bring hope to prostitutes and cocaine dealers in Port Au Prince, whose incomes have been devastated in the wake of the January 2010 earthquake.
In other Charlie the Human Trainwreck news:
Denise Richards will not let her two kids near Charlie Sheen because she thinks it’s just too risky … sources tell TMZ.
Denise, we’re told, is “disgusted” with Charlie and the way he’s living, and believes he would put 6-year-old Sam and 5-year-old Lola at risk.
And here, I think, the most likely cause of all those people Googling for “Charlie+Sheen+insane” — home video of Charlie Sheen that aired Friday on Dateline NBC:
If you’re in a mood to laugh at steadily worsening mental illness, you’ll want to read this:
Charlie Sheen’s Guide to Mental Wellness
Be sure to check back often at The Other McCain for the latest news of Charlie Sheen’s demented rantings and lunatic behavior. Also, follow the hilarious hijinks of Libyan madman Moammar Qaddafi, even though he’s never been married to Denise Richards or starred in a primetime sitcom.
UPDATE: Wow! A DJ in Phoenix scored an exclusive interview with Bob Maron, the vintage watch dealer who was the first person Sheen followed on Twitter. “I think Charlie’s got it together. … Some people would call it ‘manic.’ He would call it ‘winning.'”
UPDATE II: Charlie Sheen’s Hollywood Bedlam.
