Huckabee: ‘Hey, Maybe I Shouldn’t Have Trash-Talked Luke Skywalker’s Mom’
Posted on | March 4, 2011 | 45 Comments
We’ve finally found a Republican dumber than Dan Quayle:
Mike Huckabee walked back his criticisms of actress Natalie Portman for “glamorizing” out-of-wedlock pregnancies Friday, with a statement insisting he was only talking about society and that he’s glad the Oscar winner plans to wed her baby’s father. . . .
“I was asked about Oscar-winner Natalie Portman’s out-of-wedlock pregnancy,” he added. “Natalie is an extraordinary actor, very deserving of her recent Oscar and I am glad she will marry her baby’s father.
“However, contrary to what the Hollywood media reported, I did not ‘slam’ or ‘attack’ Natalie Portman, nor did I criticize the hardworking single mothers in our country,” he said.
History rather vindicated Quayle’s famous criticism of Murphy Brown (see “Dan Quayle Was Right,” by Barbara Dafoe Whitehead) but here’s the difference between that incident and this: Murphy Brown was a fictional TV series. The unwed preganancy of Candace Bergen’s character was one of those “push-the-envelope” stunts of the sort made famous by Norman Lear (“All in the Family,” “Maude,” “The Jeffersons,” etc.). Whereas, by contrast, Natalie Portman is a real person whose unwed pregnancy is not intentionally controversial.
We have no reason to believe that Natalie Portman became pregnant with any intention of “making a statement” or “pushing the envelope.” If Huckabee, the former Baptist minister, wishes to condemn fornication and bastardy, or to talk about the societal impact of our nation’s epidemic of fatherlessness, OK. But why drag the Star Wars star into this argument? Portman was already catching grief from the feminist ax-grinders for having declared motherhood “the most important role of my life.”
Good rule of thumb in politics: Find out what side of the issue feminists are on, and get on the other side. (If feminists ever bothered to denounce Islam’s brutal oppression of women, I might have to consider joining the Taliban. But feminists are too busy whining about “pay equity” to notice that Muslims are still stoning women to death under sharia law and forcing girls into arranged marriages.)
If Huckabee wanted to weigh in on Hollywood decadence, he could have swung his stick at the Charlie Sheen pinata and no one would have complained. As it is, I suspect Huck was trying to aim a carom shot at a certain Republican woman whose daughter is a single mom.
This his shot ricocheted badly and hit Huckabee between the eyes is one of those results that makes you think God’s got a wicked sense of irony.
And yet another reminder, as if we needed reminding, that you can’t spell “Huckabee” without an “F.”
My Health Secret, Revealed!
Posted on | March 4, 2011 | 58 Comments
People have often asked me, “Stacy, how is it that you eat such a horrible diet of junk food, you smoke, drink, consume vast quantities of coffee, and have never jogged or worked out, and yet you remain so slim, vigorous and full of energy at your age?”
Now my secret has been discovered:
A study says it is actually healthy to stare at a woman’s breasts. . . .
The study found the men who stared at breasts more often showed lower rates of heart problems, a lower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure.
The authors of the study recommend that men stare at breasts for 10 minutes a day.
It’s science!
UPDATE: Dan Collins is also an exemplar of cardiovascular health.
UPDATE II: After further consultation, Dan and I have decided to form the Collins-McCain Institute of Therapeutic Breast-Staring. Our motto: “Check out her rack, or you’ll have a heart attack!”
Meanwhile, some are claiming that this study is a “hoax.” But at the CMITBS, we don’t rely on mere theoretical research. Rather, we engage in extensive field studies involving the best specimens available — a hands-on approach to research.
UPDATE III: Well, enough of the introductory lecture. Now, time for some therapy! Read more
Let’s Nationalize the Wealth!

So says Michael Moore: “They’re sitting on the money, they’re using it for their own — they’re putting it someplace else with no interest in helping you with our life, with that money. We’ve allowed them to take that. That’s not theirs, that’s a national resource, that’s ours. We all have this, we all benefit from this or we all suffer as a result of not having it.”
And obviously, Fat Mike’s right about this: That’s our money, the rich have taken it from us, and we have the right to take it back — starting with Michael Moore’s Park Avenue penthouse in New York and his 7,000-square-foot lakefront home.
What an excellent idea!
The Blogger’s noinU Guild (BUG) Is Catching

The idea began as a W.O.R.M. casting, and was picked up at Blazing Cat Fur. Even the great big Little Miss Attila took notice.
In private correspondence with the Mac Daddy, I noted the following points:
- BUG formally bills itself as a disorganization.
- Blog linkage is a form of anti-dues. Pay up, sukkuhz.
- The fedora would is a completely optional noinUniform.
- We’re taking control of the blogosphere ‘by squall’, as opposed to ‘by storm’.
- Stacy McCain is appointed “Executive President In Charge Of That One Really Important Thing”.
Ohio Unions, Ohio Thugs, Ohio Police

The volatility surrounding the collective-bargaining debate spilled into the night Wednesday when police were called to a German Village restaurant after a group verbally accosted a gathering of Senate Republicans.
After the vote on Senate Bill 5, seven Republican senators, including President Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond, grabbed dinner at the Easy Street Cafe. As the lawmakers neared the end of their meal, a group of five to 10 union supporters angry about the passage of the bill hours before burst into the restaurant and began shouting. . . .
“It was planned,” LaRose said. “They gathered as a group and waited until they had about 10 people before they caused a disturbance.”
When the group burst into the restaurant, the woman, Monica Moran, deputy director of public affairs for SEIU District 1199, raised her hands in the air, yelled “Can I have your attention?” and then shouted “something nasty,” LaRose said. Soon after, the rest of the group of men and women joined in with a chant.
“They stormed through my dining room,” said George Stefanidis, owner of the Easy Street Cafe. “I told them they had to leave, and they wouldn’t.”
Stefanidis said he called 911 when the protesters refused to leave. LaRose said there was pushing and shoving with the restaurant staff. . . .
Read the whole thing. We should scarcely be surprised that socialists have no respect for personal privacy or property rights. It is disturbing, however, to see police making common cause with such lawless thugs:
When Ohio’s state Senate voted 17-16 Wednesday to approve S.B. 5, Frank LaRose became a target in the latest battle over government-employee unions. Not that LaRose is a stranger to battles — the 31-year-old is a former Army sergeant and decorated Iraq War veteran. But the fight over S.B. 5, which would limit the power of public-sector unions in Ohio, gave the freshman Republican state senator a baptism by fire into the world of political combat. After he voted in favor of the bill, once of the fiercest salvos was fired in a message posted Wednesday on LaRose’s Facebook page.
“Funny thing about cops, they hold a grudge,” said the message from Mike Piotrowski. That caught the eye of a group of College Republicans from the University of Akron who had supported LaRose in last year’s election, which the GOP candidate won by a decisive 57%-43% margin. The students quickly discovered that Piotrowski is a lawyer for the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police, and complained that his message could be seen as a threat toward LaRose. Piotrowski denied intending to threaten the senator, but in a reply to one of the students, the lawyer snarled: “You don’t know what you are talking about. When Republicans talk about ‘Union Thugs’ they may as well be calling people the n-word.”
This was the latest provocation in the increasingly bitter confrontation between public-sector unions and Republican state officials. . . .

The Global Orgasmatron for Kids
Posted on | March 4, 2011 | 32 Comments
Here’s a story that prompted Duane Lester to allude to Huxley’s Brave New World. It may seem like satirical science fiction — as if, like Woody Allen in Sleeper, we had awakened to discover it is 2173 — but it is an all-too-real fact: “Experts” have determined that what’s wrong with our education system is that kids aren’t taught enough about sex:
“Oral sex, masturbation, and orgasms need to be taught in education,” Diane Schneider told the audience at a [United Nations conference] panel on combating homophobia and transphobia. Schneider, representing the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers union in the US, advocated for more “inclusive” sex education in US schools. . . . She claimed that the idea of sex education remains an oxymoron if it is abstinence-based, or if students are still able to opt-out.
Comprehensive sex education is “the only way to combat heterosexism and gender conformity,” Schneider proclaimed, “and we must make these issues a part of every middle and high-school student’s agenda.” . . .
A panel sponsored in part by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) advocated for “comprehensive sex education” not only as a tool to combat “gender oppression,” but also as the key to achieving all of the Millennium Development Goals.
Whenever I see something like this — extraordinary statements made by someone I never heard of before — my first thought is, “Who is this person saying these things?” So who is Diane Schneider? The first thing I discovered was that she had presented an NEA workshop on gay-rights advocacy in schools at a 2010 “Prideworks for LGBT Youth” conference:
Next, I learned that Schneider is a leader of GLSEN (Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network) in New York’s Hudson Valley region:
And then, finally, I found this biography:
Diane is a high school health educator in Spring Valley New York. She is very active with GLSEN in the Rockland County area, where she is its co-chair. She is also proud of the GSA that she advises in her high school. She is an online professor and has been active with the Health Education Leadership Team for NY State. She brings you this workshop as part of her training from the National Education Association’s (NEA’s) LGBT Trainer of Trainers.
Hmmm. A bit more searching found Diane Schneider quoted in a 2009 New York Times story about transvestite students:
Typically during “Mix ’n’ Match Day,” at Ramapo High School in Spring Valley, N.Y., students might wear polka dots with stripes, said Diane Schneider, a teacher who is a chairwoman of the Hudson Valley chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. But this year, she said, “about 50 kids came as cross-dressers.”
And here is Diane Schneider’s official page at Ramapo High School’s Web site. Perhaps parents and taxpayers in Rockland County, N.Y., have no problem at all with Schneider’s advocacy. For all I know, the school’s slogan could be “We’re Here! We’re Queer! We’re Ramapo!” and their football team proudly takes the field in rainbow uniforms.
The relevant question is, how was GLSEN activist Schneider chosen to present the National Education Association’s official position on “inclusive” sex education to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women?
Think about it: Of all the problems affecting the world, America’s leading organization of teachers is urging the United Nations “to combat heterosexism and gender conformity” by teaching “oral sex, masturbation, and orgasms”? Because that’s exactly what’s needed by impoverished villagers in Bolivia, Botswana, Belize and Burkina Faso.
Meanwhile, you will be pleased to learn, in her official statement to the U.N. conference, Melanne Verveer, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues (and “one of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton ’s closest associates“), devoted separate sections to “Women and Green Jobs” and “Gender and Climate Change.”
So that’s the “women’s agenda” the United States is now promoting worldwide: Orgasms for kids, green jobs and fighting climate change.
Indeed, it is a Brave New World.

I’m connecting a couple of (i)d(i)ots here in a less-than-totally-factual sort of way. A curriculum basis for this ‘exciting’ new field can be found here.
The ultimate comfort, of course, is that these clowns will eventually have the opportunity to explain themselves to the Almighty.
