Crime Wave in Monkey Junction

You’ve never heard of Monkey Junction?

Monkey Junction is an unincorporated area near Wilmington, North Carolina, United States, in New Hanover County at the intersection of College Road (NC 132) and Carolina Beach Road (US 421). . . .
The intersection has been known as “Monkey Junction” for almost seventy years, due to a gas station that was located there from the late 1930s through the mid-1970s. The station, run by Dina and Jack Spindle, kept live monkeys in order to attract customers from a bus that passed by on the way to and from Carolina Beach, which lies several miles south of the junction. The bus driver would stop near the station and announce “Monkey Junction.”

The area has seen phenomenal growth. In the 1970s, the population of New Hanover County — including Wilmington — was barely 80,000; it’s now nearly triple that. Now that you know the history of Monkey Junction, let’s bring you up-to-date on the current state of affairs:

Two in custody after high-speed chase and crash ending in Monkey Junction
Two people have been taken into custody after a pursuit that ended with a crash in Monkey Junction at around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, according to the Carolina Beach Police Department.
Treyquan Levar Tilghman, 20, of Castle Hayne, and Denesha Elane McKoy, 19, of Wilmington were arrested in connection to the crash, according to a Carolina Beach Police Department spokesperson.
According to a CPD spokesperson, several people including a pedestrian were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. They are currently in stable condition.

Treyquan Tilghman is a one-man crime wave and you will perhaps not be surprised to learn that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen. Although he is only 20 years old, I was able to discover at least two previous arrests for Tilghman, including a February 2023 larceny arrest in Pender County. He is a convicted felon, and this chase from Carolina Beach to Monkey Junction added numerous other charges:

Tilghman was charged with the following:

• Fleeing to elude with motor vehicle
• Possession of stolen motor vehicle
• Two counts of felony hit and run causing injury
• Reckless driving to endanger
• Speeding
• Driving while license revoked
• Failure to stop-steady red light
• Unlawful use of highways
• Improper passing on the right
• Resist, delay, and/or obstruct a public officer
• Possession of Schedule VI (marijuana)
• Possession of marijuana paraphernalia

Tilghman was also served with nine outstanding orders for arrest and warrants for arrest in incidents not in Carolina Beach with the following:

• Three counts of felony probation violation
• Fleeing to elude with motor vehicle
• Driving while license revoked
• Aggressive driving
• Break and enter to terrorize
• Misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
• Battery on an unborn child
• Larceny of a motor vehicle

They have thrown the proverbial book at him this time, and there is reason to expect that Treyquan Tilghman will spend a few years in prison before getting another chance to continue his felonious ways.

One local resident is dismayed by the recent crime wave:

Courtney Engel, who works at J. Michael’s Philly Deli near the site of the crash, said she grew up in the Monkey Junction area. She said crimes like this are starting to become more frequent.
“It’s crazy. I grew up here and it was never like this and now it’s everywhere, all the time,” Engel said. “Now, you have to be careful anywhere you go. And it’s crazy we have to think like that, but you have to be careful anywhere you go.”

The idea that Satan has a rooting interest in baseball games has been the subject of some speculative fiction over the years, and Baltimore Orioles fans can be forgiven for suspecting that the New York Yankees are beneficiaries of infernal influence. After beating the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, the Orioles have a 45-22 record (.672) and, if they could maintain that pace until season’s end, they’d win 109 games.

Despite this superb record, Baltimore is in second place in the American League East, 2½ games behind the Yankees, who are 49-21 (.700).

After a long hiatus the Yankees renewed that deal with the lord of darkness.

A criminal named Biden convicted by a jury in Delaware?

Hunter Biden became the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime Tuesday after a federal jury found him guilty of lying about his drug use in order to buy a gun.
The panel of six men and six women deliberated for three hours across two days before convicting the 54-year-old of making a false statement in the purchase of a firearm, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a federally licensed firearms dealer, and possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of or addict to a controlled substance.
Prosecutors from special counsel David Weiss’ office had argued President Biden’s son knowingly fibbed on a gun application form that he did not use controlled substances before walking out of a Wilmington shop with a Colt Cobra .38-caliber revolver on Oct. 12, 2018.
In fact, Hunter Biden was hooked on crack cocaine at the time, a fact he acknowledged in his own 2021 memoir — which prosecutors used as evidence against him.
The first son stared at the jury and made no visible reaction as the foreperson read the verdict. Hunter’s wife Melissa sat in the gallery behind him, next to her husband’s “sugar brother,” attorney Kevin Morris.
The first son faces up to 25 years behind bars — though a lighter sentence is much more likely since he has no prior convictions.
