Engineering Majors Are Dangerous: Feds Arrest Student Who Threatened Jews

Posted on | November 1, 2023 | Comments Off on Engineering Majors Are Dangerous: Feds Arrest Student Who Threatened Jews

Justice Department press release:

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK — Patrick Dai, age 21, a junior at Cornell University who is originally from Pittsford, New York, was arrested [Tuesday] on a federal criminal complaint charging him with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman; Alfred Watson, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); New York State Police Acting Superintendent Dominick L. Chiumento; and Cornell University Police Chief Anthony Bellamy.
The complaint alleges that Dai posted threatening messages to the Cornell section of an online discussion site, including posts calling for the deaths of Jewish people and a post that said “gonna shoot up 104 west.” According to information provided by Cornell University Police and other public information, 104 West is a Cornell University dining hall that caters predominantly to Kosher diets and is located next to the Cornell Jewish Center, which provides residences for Cornell students. In another post, Dai allegedly threatened to “stab” and “slit the throat” of any Jewish males he sees on campus, to rape and throw off a cliff any Jewish females, and to behead any Jewish babies. In that same post, Dai threatened to “bring an assault rifle to campus and shoot all you pig jews.” The charges and the allegations in the complaint are merely accusations. . . .
The charge filed against Dai carries a maximum term of 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.

Look, it’s unfair to generalize here, or to promote negative stereotypes about engineering majors. Why, some of my best friends majored in engineering, and they’re not lunatic Jew-haters, as far as I know.

You’ll never guess what the suspect’s parents say about him:

Dai’s parents, however, believe their son is innocent.
“My son is in severe depression. He cannot control his emotion well due to the depression. No, I don’t think he committed the crime,” his father, who asked that his name not be used, told The Post in a text message.
Dai sank into a deep depression in 2021, one year after he started his engineering studies at the prestigious university, his parents said.
He entered the school as one of five National Merit Scholars named at Pittsford-Mendon High School and as a 12-time AP Scholar who also logged time volunteering at Rochester General Hospital. . . .
Dai underwent a dramatic change after just one year, his parents said — though they adamantly emphasized that he never had a history of violence.
“He was always very nice to society, well organized, helpful to my family and his classmates before 2021,” his father said.
“He told us he lost his life goal and motivation … As parents, we tried to give him more love.”
At the suggestion of a doctor, Dai took off two semesters from his studies — in the spring of 2022 and 2023 — to try to recuperate, but struggled to regain his ambition.
Dai’s communications with his parents went dark just days before his arrest, around the time he allegedly posted the unhinged threats . . .
“My wife called him or sent messages to him many times but got no answers. She was worrying that he may commit suicide and drove to his apartment to see what happened,” Dai’s father said.
By the time she made the 80-mile trip to the Ithaca building, Dai had already been arrested.
Instead of her son, she saw several police officers stationed outside her son’s college home.
Although they don’t believe their son is responsible for the antisemitic posts, Dai’s parents theorize his depression is somehow linked to the case.

What the suspect’s parents are saying is that their son is daft, deranged, demented, berserk, bonkers, cracked, wacky, zany, non compos mentis, nuttier than a Snickers bar, off his rocker and cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

Which may or may not work as a defense against federal charges — I’m not a lawyer — but weren’t some of those arrested in the J6 riot also depressed? Bummed out by the election? Some of those guys got over a decade in federal prison, so why should this kid get special treatment? Because he’s an Ivy Leaguer? A former National Merit Scholar?

Kevin Downey Jr. notes that Dai included his pronouns (he/him) in his online profile — a telltale symptom of Woke Mind Virus.

Carnac the Magnificent Knows the Answer

Posted on | October 31, 2023 | Comments Off on Carnac the Magnificent Knows the Answer

If you’re old enough to remember when late-night TV was actually funny, you remember “Carnac the Magnificent.” In a recurring Tonight Show segment, Johnny Carson portrayed an Eastern mystic whose psychic powers enabled him to discern the answers to questions written inside envelopes which had been “hermetically sealed” and “kept in a mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnalls’ porch since noon today.” (For the benefit of younger readers, I’ll explain that the company founded by Isaac Kaufmann Funk and Adam Willis Wagnalls was a publisher of dictionaries and other reference works.) Holding the envelope against his head, Carnac would declare the answer, e.g., “Until he gets caught.” Then, with a flourish, he’d open the envelope, remove the card inside and read the question, e.g., “How long does a United States congressman serve?”

So now picture me in the role of Carnac, with my bejeweled and feather-crested turban, holding the envelope as I perceive the answer:

CRAZY PEOPLE ARE DANGEROUS

After a bit of comic banter with my sidekick Ed McMahon, I then proceed to open the envelope and read the previously hidden question:

“What will we learn if and when the FBI ever decides to release the manifesto of Nashville school shooter Audrey Hale?”

The audience erupts in laughter and Doc Severinsen strikes up the band, as we go to commercial. Lloyd Billingsley reminds us, “On March 29, 2023, two days after the murders, the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit took custody of the manifesto,” and thus seek to conceal the mass murderer’s motive. It’s been seven months now, and as Professor Reynolds rekarks, “If they aren’t telling us what it says, it’s because they don’t want us to know what it says.” But we don’t need any help from the FBI to know than trannies are crazy, and crazy people are dangerous.

While Hamas Supporters Terrorize Jews, Can You Guess What Noah Berlatsky Considers a More Important Menace?

Posted on | October 30, 2023 | Comments Off on While Hamas Supporters Terrorize Jews, Can You Guess What Noah Berlatsky Considers a More Important Menace?

America must beware of “Christofascism,” Berlatsky practically screams. The “white evangelical Christian nationalist tradition” of new House Speaker Mike Johnson, Louisiana Republican, must be stopped:

Based on his stated supposedly biblical positions, the Bible in Johnson’s head is a silly, vicious farrago of ignorance and bigotry, and a blueprint for Christofascist tyranny. . . .
[T]he right loves to say we live in a republic not a democracy. And what they mean by that is that authoritarian disenfranchisement is awesome as long as it benefits the party of white biblical Christofascism. . . .

Do you want to read the whole thing? Probably not, but I felt obligated to throw the link in there, just so you could see that I’m not making this up. Does anyone really believe that “Christofascist tyranny” and “authoritarian disenfranchisement” (whatever that means) are eminent dangers to our country, or that Mike Johnson aspires to achieve this?

Readers will recall that we last paid attention to Mr. Berlatsky two weeks ago (“Noah Berlatsky, Who Seems to Be OK With Pedophiles, Sure Does Hate Republicans,” Oct. 9), when Berlatsky sought to persuade his readers that what was really newsworthy was not that Hamas terrorists had slaughtered hundreds of Israelis civilians, but rather the Republican reaction to this massacre. Notice the pattern: No matter what the actual news may be, every day is Attack Republicans Day for Noah Berlatsky.

Why do you think that is? Do you suppose that Berlasky’s monomaniacal fixation on The Right-Wing Christofascist Republican Menace might be related to something that several people have pointed out, namely that Noah Belatsky seems to be OK with pedophiles?

Perhaps this is all just a coincidence. Maybe there could be an innocent explanation for Noah Berlatsky’s enthusiastic defense of “MAPs” (minor-attracted persons), but the problem is he’s never provided such an explanation. No one has ever been able to get Berlatsky to reply to critics who suggest that Berlatsky’s interest in this issue is not coincidental.

Whatever you do, however, don’t ask Noah Berlatsky any questions about this directly, because he doesn’t like it when that happens.
