Hateful Atrocity as Transvestite Beaten by Christian Fundamentalists. Oh, Wait …

Posted on | April 22, 2011 | 66 Comments

By now you’ve probably seen the viral video in which a woman (or, according to the guy who shot the video, a transvestite) was beaten senseless by two teenage girls in a McDonald’s restaurant:

It appears that the victim used the women’s restroom, and these two teenagers decided to appoint themselves the Anti-Drag-Queen Vigilante Committee of Rosedale, Maryland. The horrible sadism of this crime — the perpetrators returning to beat the defenseless victim over and over again – is shocking to watch. Indeed, it “says quite a bit about where we are as a culture,” as Bryan Preston observes. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Sun reports:

State’s Attorney Scott D. Shellenberger said the racial dynamics of the incident — the attackers are black, and the victim is white — could result in hate-crime charges.

Can you imagine the political uproar if the attackers had been right-wing Tea Party types? Perhaps we can ask Paul Krugman to favor us with another one of his “climate of hate” sermons.

women use the BOOTH. So how would the girls know he/she was a transvestite? Did he pull out his wanger and pee in the washbasin?
This might indeed be a “hate” crime, but something doesn’t equate.

All that from that video, astounding.

I don’t suppose that the far more likely motivation, common to most predators, was taking advantage of finding something they didn’t like to be within their grasp and vulnerable. The fact is that they had justifiable confidence that no one would make a effective attempt to stop them is what they put their faith in.

It would be amusing to see the expression on the thug’s faces as one explained the evil of their “Arian Heresy” to them.
I don’t recommend starting that conversation in a bathroom.

Aren’t scientific assertions without citation mere chexmix?

I was attempting to infer a moral obligation by emphasising LEGAL, and yes I’d like to think I’d intervene.

I assumed this was a mere transvestite, not a transgendered person. Not all transvestites go that route, and there’s no reason to think this one had, or if he had, that he had gotten to that particular phase. But if he was in that situation, I would think surely to God he could manage to stay the fuck out of McDonalds for a year.

My guess is he was a regular fixture in the area and people knew him, and he has probably been kicked out of places for this before. This was probably not the first time he’s had issues due to his actions. This has probably been a long time coming. I’m also going to go out on a limb and guess this guy might have even been a tranny prostitute. A good many black women hate white hoes as it is, you know they aren’t any fonder of white men dressing like white hoes, and BEING white hoes.

I’m glad you brought this up. I was afraid that a vicious assault on another human being while cowards laughed and did nothing would obfuscate the real lesson here: double standards in the media. No doubt the lame-stream media will completely miss the real story and instead focus on the victim. Good catch!

I currently live in Korea. Schools have separated bathrooms. When you go out to eat there are usually separate bathrooms. Public bathrooms are separate.

It isn’t unusual to find a bathroom that is unisex but that has more to do with a lack of facilities than some sort of idea that difference in gender don’t matter.

I’ve traveled and lived in various countries around the world and while unisex bathrooms are more common than in the US, if given a preference I think most people choose a gender specific bathroom.

In all the discussions about ‘climate of hate’ and ‘violent rhetoric’, why hasn’t anyone mentioned the Rev. Wright, and others of his ilk that weekly preach hate whitey, blame whitey. Sweet children attending church as they grow up can be slowly turned into violent haters with a nonstop diet of hate, hate, hate. Yet no one seems to think that these black on white outbursts can be blamed on these ministers of hate.

Point taken. I also realize that for some people, you have to spell it out for them, otherwise, it goes…whoosh…right over their heads.

I take exception to the comment that “many transgendered people have atypical chromosomes”. These are a minority even of the transgendered. I treat some of these people. They are just crazy. This was the conclusion (in other terms, of course) of Johns Hopkins when they decided to stop doing the procedures.

Well, eight blows to the head with a sledgehammer takes almost anything.

Generally, something quick, and not damaging the flesh is considered clean.

I went to France in the early ‘ 80′s. To my horror, men were allowed in the women’s bathrooms. This was gross and disgusting. Sorry, but I do NOT want men in the ladies room. I was really happy to get back to England and the US where this kind of nonsense doesn’t go on. If you like Europe so much, go live there.
