PAUL RYAN SCORES CRUSHING VICTORY OVER BIDEN IN DEBATE

Posted on | October 11, 2012 | 117 Comments

UPDATED 10:22 p.m. ET: Headline from John Nolte:

MEDIA HAMMERS BIDEN:
‘STOP SMIRKING!’ ‘WEIRD,’ ‘JERK’

UPDATED 10:19 p.m. ET: A few more thoughts from Twitter:

I’m going to have to start putting together my column for the American Spectator.

UPDATED 10:03 p.m. ET: It’s clear that Biden was advised to be aggressive, to bulldoze, interrupt and filibuster, to treat Ryan with contempt. The astonishing thing (or, maybe not) is how moderator Martha Raddatz is enabling that strategy.

UPDATED 9:39 p.m. ET: VodkaPundit is drunkblogging. Biden is drunkdebating.

UPDATED 9:35 p.m. ET:

UPDATED 9:12 p.m. ET: Biden interrupted Ryan’s second answer to accuse Ryan of “malarkey” — because Joe’s an expert on “malarkey”!

* * PREVIOUSLY 8:30 p.m. ET * *

This is rather a bold headline, consdiering that it’s now 8:30 p.m. ET and the debate in Danville, Ky., doesn’t even begin for another half-hour, but I’ve been saying for the past week that Ryan would make mincemeat of Biden, so there’s little additional risk in going all-out balls-to-the-wall with my headline.

Ace, on the other hand, is trying to tamp down expectations for reasons that are entirely factual and logical, which is OK, if that’s how you roll.

Me, I’ve got no problem going big. Dave Weigel asks, “Can Joe Biden Save Barack Obama?” And I say, “RAAAAACIST! How dare you say Obama needs a white man to save him?”

Anyway, consider this your Official Vice Presidential Debate Thread. There’s an NFL game on tonight, if you’d rather watch that, then check back here later to see exactly how Ryan stomped Biden.

EXPECT UPDATES . . . .

Gee, Jeff, I guess you’ll have to enlighten me again! Can you tell me what OFA stands for? I guess I’m just not hip to the New Lingo.

The most biased and conservative site I have found tonight commentating on the debates. Also the only site that seems to think Ryan won….

As for “highjacking the thread,” I gotta say it’s kinda fun battling singlehanded, fighting the good fight against you marketplace barons. Please make my day!

You should go check out the very Conservative CNN and CNBC then. Come back and tell us about it.

What you don’t understand, Jeff, is that there are lefties and then there are LEFTIES. The same is true of the political right. Please don’t try to lump every left-leaner together. You’re being naive.

    Big surprise. Leftie trolls wouldn’t.

Constitution a difficult concept for you?

  8. Johnbenjamin

A clear victory for Biden. Love the biased conservative site by the way. Reminds me of a poor mans FOX news.

I repeat: If Romney wins, four years from now you’re gonna regret your vote. OH, how you’re gonna regret it!

Well that’s better. But this class warfare crap has gone on long enough. Why not get on the Liberty bandwagon and help end Obama’s subservience to countries that treat women like property?

  12. JeffS

The trolls, they are out in force tonight. There must be a really big bonus for spamming conservative sites in the wake of this debate.

Even if there isn’t……as Ace noted, it’s indicative that Biden, at best, appealed only to the Democratic base, and kept them from running into the woods, gibbering and screaming.

That was the best they could hope for after Obama’s trouncing last week, and knowing Biden’s issues regarding intelligence and articulation. So, a win there.

But I think Romney keeps the momentum. And that’s why the trolls are out, trying to shout down the good news.

    Ain’t gonna work, trolls.

It’s hateful to assume you’re wise enough to allege hate when there may be none there.

The mod did suck. Biden would have done far better without the smirking. I see this as a slight Ryan win on the debate, but no change in the dynamic…which means Romney Ryan still winning. http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/10/biden-v-ryan-post-vice-president-debate.html

So why do you think the “socialists” are in power? What do you consider a socialist?

  20. JeffS
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:02 am

You do realize that you left yourself open for an obscene reply, yes? You might want to call it a night.

And, at this rate, you’re going to owe money to OFA. I hear they subcontract collections to the SEIU.

  21. Christopher Michael Potter
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:03 am

Because I don’t believe for a second that today’s new-right Republicans would do things any differently. In fact, they might be worse.

  22. K-Bob
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:03 am

Ace has the flaming skull up: Biden claimed to have voted against the AUMF bills.

What a dummy. Can’t remember his own vote on the war.

Who ya gonna trust, pal? Your own lying eyes, or some guys bullshitting you?

  23. K-Bob

Not near as much as I regret yours now.

  24. Christopher Michael Potter
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:06 am

I might be willing to heed your advice if you’re willing to tell me what OFA is. That’s not a very difficult request.

    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:07 am

    For that matter, what’s SEIU?

  28. JeffS
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:09 am

Yep. He has the momentum, while Obama is flailing. The next set of debates will be most telling.

I am a moderate and I still don’t understand how continued bush tax cuts for the wealthy combined with a 2 trillion increase in military spending can be accounted for by closing loopholes and deductions in the tax code. The only way this seems possible is by cutting support to the middle class, such as mortgage and health care reductions as well as cuts to tax breaks for funding college tuition. Why couldn’t Ryan give any specifics on this issue?

  30. Christopher Michael Potter
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:11 am

Repent. It’s not too late. You’ve still got 26 days.

Ah, a fan of post-modernism. I highly recommend you read Smitty’s excellent review of Stephen Hicks’ book on the subject.

(start with the last post to get the full list of articles)

It’s possible to be hateful with laughing, boisterous glee, so I don’t think there’s any problem with the wisdom factor in Stacy’s article. We don’t have to find angry faces to identify hate. For example, the #OCCUPY folks are engaged in base class warfare. If that’s not hate, then nothing is.

Romney could still win Florida, Ohio, and Virginia and still lose if Obama takes Iowa and Colorado. Seems unlikely that Romney has the votes unless he can snag Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Colorado/Iowa. Unlikely…..

Let’s see — in your world rich Democrats are thugs, but rich Republicans are great Americans. I’ll concede this much: There are brutes on both sides. But one of those sides has a whole lot more of them.

Oooh, a grammar nazi as well as a socialist. No really, do it now and put it up on You Tube. Your boy is going down and your whining just raises my spirits.

  35. K-Bob
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:17 am

I’m gonna go out on a branch here and say, “because of interruptions.” Every time Ryan began a list of facts he was either interrupted by Biden’s buffoonery, or by Radditz.

He definitely missed some opportunities, though.

    Dear Jeff & K-Bob:

What? No replies? How selfish, how downright elitist! Tsk, tsk, just like Grover’s boys! Well, I’ll just have to bid you guys a very good evening, and look up OFA myself. I’ll just hope I don’t get subcontracted in the process.

    Patriotically yours,
    Chris

[…] “It’s clear“, writes Stacy McCain scoring Ryan the winner in last night’s debate, that Vice President Joe “Biden was advised to be aggressive, to bulldoze, interrupt and filibuster, to treat Ryan with contempt.”  ”No doubt”, offers Fred Barnes, echoing Mccain, “Biden was told to be aggressive.  No doubt he was told not to let Ryan get away with anything.  No doubt he was told not to let the moderator, ABC News correspondent Martha Raddatz, restrain him.” […]

Man you leftists are desperate! I’ve read this talking point all over the net. What this country needs is more jobs with more people paying taxes. You can take all of the assets of the top 10 billionairs in this country and it will only run this country for 2 months due to our out of control spending. The economy needs to grow not stagnate, like it has under Obysmal.

Typically speaking, rich people on the right earn their money through hard work. (You know, capitalism.) While rich people on the left tend to steal it. (Politicians and their crony friends picking the taxpayers’ pockets.)

  48. Christopher Michael Potter
    October 12th, 2012 @ 1:56 am

And why take them out to the woods? I don’t want them dead. I don’t even want to take their money away. I just don’t want them controlling every facet of my life. I’m sure you hate the idea of being enslaved. Why can’t you realize who it is who’s doing the enslaving?

Robo trolling is boring. Step it up.

I do not accede to some stupid concept involving “rulers.” The reason given was that we follow the Constituition. You claimed that makes me “obtuse.” Ergo, you struggle with the very essence of the Constitution.
